I love their curry dishes– sweet and spicy with the perfect amount of cumin or massaman. Depending on the day, service can be a little bit slow even when the resturaunt is empty. One big draw back is that they don’t offer rad na on their menu– you have to ask for it.

Bad. Pad Thai with gloppy sauce. Ordered take out which I have to do frequently due to my job. The car smelled like @ss and I almost didn’t eat the food — wish I hadn’t. Awful, over-sauced dish with 5 slim pieces of chicken and undercooked noodles. Asian noodles should be soft, not al dente. Sauce has peanut butter thickness with a face-smashing amount of fish sauce. I had to drive with the windows down for twenty minutes to clear the foot-stench of the food from my vehicle. Poorly cooked, unbalanced food in a small quantity for the price paid. For the reviewers that give this place high marks you have never, ever had decent Thai food. I feel sorry for you. I guess the 2 lone diners at 6:30 pm should have been my first clue. Eww.

Nice place inside. Lady that served us(owner, I think) was polite and helpful. I requested«super hot(spicy)» food. It was not even close. When I ask that of the people at Kindee in nearby Monroe, it’s HOT. The food however was very tasty. Portions a bit small, but not so much that I would not return. Excellent take on Tom Yung soup. Not bad value for the money

This place is excellent. Everything that I’ve ever had was amazing. I try deiffrent things all the time and I’m never disappointed. The only thing that’s bad here are the prices, portions and there english. You would think that for 6 – 7 bucks they would give you 3 – 4 spring rolls but u get a misley 2 that are shorter than your fingers. Other than that if you like Thai food I would reccomnd this place. Best Thai in the area by far. All the food is made by a grandma so tradition and technique’s make all the diffence.

it took me a bit to realize yummy food could be found in a strip mall in suburbia, but king and I makes it true! authentic thai, really delicious. we prefer take-out from here since the vibe inside can feel a bit empty and we have a toddler-in-tow. really lovely people who work there as well. glad they are in stratford!

Wish I could say the food taste amazing and the service was excellent but unfortunately never got to try it. After waiting 5 minutes at the door with no one greeting us and than another 5 with no one coming to the table we decided to leave. After being in a restaurant for 10 minutes and not seeing a single employee we obviously walked out. It was 7 pm by the way.

Found this Thai restaurant very subpar. Got takeout, I had the red curry with chicken, my husband had the drunken noodle, and we split an order of spring rolls. My chicken curry was extremely salty, too thick, not spicy at all(although I didn’t realize they have mild and spicy options when I ordered, they should have asked) and VERY small. I was still hungry after! The rice was disappointing too, bland white rice, not jasmine like I expected. Spring rolls were ok, but nothing amazing. My husband thought his drunken noodle was decent, so I’m giving 2 stars instead of just 1. This is my first time trying this place, but very disappointed that these pretty standard dishes were not very good. I will not be going again.

The king and I does an amazing job with all of their dishes. The curries, drunken noodle and duck dishes are delicious. If you can go for the lunch-the combination that are offered are a great price. The dinner prices are a little more than I would like to pay but I still go back because I know I can always count on a consist great meal. My favorites: Panang beef, tamarind duck dish, drunken noodles and tom yum soup. If you are looking for a great take out meal — look no further

I work in the area so decided to try to the food for lunch one time. The interior of the restaurant is extremely nice, despite it being in a plaza. It was relatively empty when I went, as there was only one other person there besides me, which I found weird. The menu had a large variety of Thai food ranging from curry to noodles to other authentic Thai dishes. For lunch, the options are limited to the more popular dishes. They do give you the option of choosing two small portions of your two favorite choices, plus hot and sour soup and white rice, which I thought was great bargain for under $ 10. I personally got chicken massaman and shrimp pad thai. To my disappointment, the food was not that great. Being an avid Thai food lover, I was expecting the food to be at least good since the décor was so nice and they had authentic dishes. There are no other Thai Food spots in the area that I know of so if you have a craving for Thai food, you are going to have to settle for this or drive into another town. Read my other reviews on other Asian Cuisine places for other suggestions Pros: Nice Interior and Ambiance, Nice Selection of Thai Dishes, Relatively Inexpensive Lunch Cons: Satisfactory Thai Food

I’ve been to the King & I twice. The first time the food was ok but our server was incredibly rude and inattentive despite the fact that the place was totally empty. I felt compelled to write this review because I just I gave it a go again hoping my first experience a fluke. But, no, same exact experience. The waiter(same young man as the first time) had to be asked twice to bring water, hovered over us to rush us to order, seemed put out when we asked for chili sauce – all while the restaurant was virtually empty. If you are the owner, please train your waiters! also my pad thai this time was terrible and seemed to have a ton of sugar in it.

Best Thai food period. The fairfield restaurant is a bit nice/newer but the food here is better… Not sure if there are different chefs or its just about timing. We had the Som Tum, drunken noodels and the massamam curry. All major hits. We asked for the Som Tum to be made extra spicy and they obliged, was fantastic. The only think holding back from a 5 star is the restaurant inside is a bit dated but clean.

I have been to King and I many times and would have considered myself to be an advocate. But after my recent experience, I am unimpressed with them. We placed takeout and asked«is this enough for 3 adults?» and«are there any peppers in this?»(The menu didn’t indicate peppers, but we always ask to be sure.) We got home and discovered we had received two tiny containers and two medium sized containers, three of which had peppers in them. We called and arranged a return. When I returned the food, the older proprietor said«this is the portion WE would eat.» Wow. Sorry I happen to be slightly overweight and I have a teenager to feed. Note: there were only two tables with people seated on a Thursday night. Indicative of a decline?

The food here was ok, but I got takeout so it was not nearly as good as I’m sure it was fresh. However, I was thoroughly put off by the fact that we ordered the food and went to pick it up when they said it would be ready. We were taking it for dinner at the Downtown Cabaret theater for a show. We waited for 30 minutes and they just kept telling us it was almost ready. Then, another guy came in and handed them a bag saying, «Here’s the wrong order you just gave to me when I was here before.» They then took that bag back into the kitchen and re-wrapped it in a new bag and handed it to us. My husband questioned this and has worked in food service, and it is completely illegal and disgusting to serve food that has already been served to someone else. How do I know they didn’t start eating it already? Anyway, by that point we were late for the show so there was nothing we could do. We took the food and were not impressed by it. I wish we had just gotten our money back and reported them to the department of health, but we let it go. I will not ever go back there again. I hope it was a one-time strange incident but who knows who’s been touching your food before you get it?

Omg so hongry! Yes I did that on purpose! We spent almost $ 35 and I’m starving. JESUSCHRISTMAS! Usually in a Thai restaurant, you can bathe in the food for that kind of money. I’m so bummed. I ordered two entrees for my kids and I and had to take them to Wendy’s after wards because we were all still hungry. Oh hell naw! And the food was so good… I wanted to lick the plate(well that and I was HONGRY), but I guess I won’t be back :’(

The food here is on par with some of the best Thai places I’ve tried. I’m not crazy about the tunnel setup of the restaurant. For some people I’m sure that is part of the ambiance but for me it is crowded and cramped and noisy as well. The service is pretty good and the food comes out quickly. If you just want to eat great Thai food, this is your spot but my advice would be to order takeout and enjoy it off site. Perhaps on a quiet night it could be a good date spot. If it isn’t loud and crowded I’m guessing it can be very intimate. It can never be a good business meeting spot if you have documents to spread out. If you’re bringing in some big boys or girls you might want to rethink this as a choice as well. I typically order the duck but I’ve had the whole fish and practically all the curries. They never miss. The portions and prices are reasonable and if you want to try something new the chances are good you’ll enjoy it here. I typically like to share appetizers with the table and try a little of everything. It’s hard to go wrong here and if it wasn’t for the setup of the restaurant I would probably give this place 5 stars.

We discovered this place by chance a few years back while looking for a new dining experience. We had never had Thai food before, and decided to give King and I a shot. Suffice it to say we were blown away by the freshness and the flavor of the food here, and have been back many times. There have been occasions when the service has been a little… tedious. I’ll chalk this up to a different pace in lifestyles, as the folks here in the Northeast can be a bit hurried and impatient(talking about myself here). For the most part the staff have been friendly and prompt. This place doesn’t get packed often, but we have seen it happen on occasion. They’ve done a decent job with the décor considering the location. There are a few things on the menu that don’t appeal to my palate(larb, crystal noodels), but the dishes that I do like, I like A LOT! The chicken satay, duck with crispy basil, Ped Grob, any of the curry dishes and the drunken noodles are really delicious! The dishes that have coconut milk, peanut sauce and the accompanying cooking oils aren’t the most healthy ingredients you can ingest, but they do create a delicious flavor explosion in your mouth. Definitely worth the extra calories. The pan fried dishes are pretty good, and they also have a surprisingly decent selection of wines(nothing extravagant however). Now we’ve been to the west coast, and had Thai food that makes anything here in CT seem sub par. However, for this part of Connecticut I’d say King and I is one of the best Thai restaurants in the immediate area(outside of NH). The crap that all of the Asian fusion places try to pass off as «Thai food» doesn’t even come close to what you’ll get here. Well worth a try. Many thanks to King and I for making our first Thai experience a positive one!

Really great Thai food. Have come here several times including recently. Each time, I come away wanting to come back again. The place is non-descript from the outside, but pleasant on the inside. Service is attentive and, importantly, spaced out the dishes right. And its a place that when it says«spicy», it means it. And that’s a good thing. Pad Thai — excellent. Chicken in a spicy chili-garlic sauce. Outstanding. Only«complaint» is that portions are normal sized — meaning no leftovers for the next day. Oh well, we’ll just have to come back.
