Try their Colonoscopy! Amazing! Yup! I’m reviewing my recent colonoscopy and it was amazing! I’m a huge chicken. The idea of a colonoscopy could not be less appealing. When I was younger and heard that when you get to a certain age they take a camera and… well…they use it a highly improbable, clearly uncomfortable and most certainly undesirable manner seemed preposterously primitive. I didn’t worry. I was certain that by the time I reached that age they would have come up with a far less invasive means of determining whatever it is they they were trying to determine. I was wrong. So after putting the procedure off for as long as I could I sought recommendations. I asked questions like: «Does he have large hands?» «Does he wear a Rolex?» «Did he win a Superbowl or wear a class ring?» «Does he have any nervous ticks or appear easily startled?» Dr. Nelson’s name came up often, including the recommendation of my own Doctor, so I reluctantly made an appointment. The office was cheerful and efficient. I didn’t have to wait and the initial exam simply involved answering a list of questions, a lot of reassurances(the most important being«You will be completely knocked out and won’t notice or feel a thing.») and providing me with a prescription for Prepopik which he recommended as a very user-friendly prep regimen. They also provided me with very simple and clear instructions for what to do the day before, how to use the Prepopik and what to do the morning of. Right off the bat I would say that the recommendation of Prepopik was dead on. It tasted kind of like lemonade, only required 2 portions and several easily managed glasses of water and did not make my stomach upset. Sure, nobody wants to spend a day like that, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as other prep stories I’d heard and overall was fairly manageable. I still use the plastic cup to make gin and tonics. On the day of we went to the local surgical center. Dr. Nelson(he looks a bit like Santa Claus which is also comforting) came in and reassured me that all would be well. I knew exactly what to expect. Everyone was friendly and although I was as jumpy as a dog passing fishhooks they were extremely professional and their easy-going calm demeanor made me feel less anxious. When I woke up I had no discomfort. Dr. Nelson arrived soon after in the recovery area and(thank god) gave me the good news that I would not have to do this again any time soon. He gave me a lot of detail about the procedure and although I could not have imagined I would ever say this, I’m glad I did it. Bottom line guys(no pun intended) if you’re nervous about doing this and have been putting it off, don’t. Go see Dr. Nelson. It really won’t be bad at all and like me you will sleep better knowing there’s nothing to be afraid of.
