I had a Cuban sandwich here the other day, and the flavor was great but I despise when they add fatty flabby skin and fat to the sandwich. Ewww. Complete deal breaker for me. The bread is very good and the egg and cheese and ham and cheese sandwiches are great. I haven’t had the pastries or the flan… Next time.

PUERTORICANSANDWICHES… YUM! There are a lot of options on East Main St to fulfill your Spanish food fix. This is a place you can savor a good sandwich. Pan Del Cielo is not your typical bakery. They offer a very limited selection of baked goods, but who cares… I go for the sandwiches and the Spanish deserts. They bake their own bread, which stands alone, if its fresh, with just a little butter and spanish coffee on the side to dip… ohhhh my mouth is watering as I’m writing. The neighborhood isn’t the prettiest, but the store itself is spacious and clean. Service is always great. The workers clearly communicate better in Spanish, but will speak to you in English, as Celia Cruz would say«My English in not very good looking.» I usually get the Puerto Rican Cuban Sandwich, which is pork, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and ketchup. The portion is a little skimpy but I usually just combine everything on one half of the bread and it makes for a large 6″. Still not bad for $ 7 and change. The meat is fresh and cooked on site. For desert, they offer a variety of pastries, but why waste your time with traditional stuff when you can sample a taste of Puerto Rico. They offer either large or my favorite, i’ll call it the two bite portion of either flan or arroz con dulce… more drool. BUENPROVECHO!

Pan Del Cielo on East Main is not a bakery I would walk into unless somebody would tell me that it is worth it. You find bakeries like this all over the city, but a friend told me that they got some great sandwiches here. Reason enough for me to take her word for it and make that trip to 1521 East Main Street. The place is spacious and with some tables and chairs you could even turn it into a nice Bistro. At the counter I asked what their best sandwich was and that I was very interested in trying it. The recommendation was the Mi Cielo(Pastrami, Bistec & another meat I forget the name of). Well my friend was right it was a great sandwich I had at Pan Del Cielo and worth the little journey to the East Side of BPT.
