I stayed a night at the New Relax Inn due to its close proximity to Toyota Park, where it’s a 5 minute walk from the stadium. It’s also a very short bus ride or drive to Midway. I wasn’t under any great illusions, it’s a $ 69 motel after all. I checked in, in a fairly simple process. I had booked a non-smoking room, but was initially given a smoking room. I’ve been around smokers my entire life, but never smelled anything this bad. For some reason the heating was on and the room set at 85 °F. I turned it off and tried the A/C to clear the smell, which actually made it worse. I had to switch, and was given room 39. I opened the door to 39, and was a little shocked to hit the light switch and have disco lighting illuminate the dark room. I guess this is a honeymoon suite. There are mirrors on two walls, as well as over the bed. The disco lighting is accompanied by colored lights and some plastic floral stuff surrounding the ceiling mirror. The walls are pink, and someone has tried to dab white paint over it to create an effect. Unfortunately, they forgot to get the corners and edges. By the look of it, they did this with the front door open and didn’t think to paint behind it. The bathroom was small but nice, it’s been recently renovated with new tile, sink and toilet. The water pressure was very typical of any hotel. The bathroom door didn’t shut where the bottom hinge was slightly off. I was a little surprised to see that neither room had internal locks of any kind on the front door. There was only a chain that was fitted vertically, so it can be opened from the outside. It was stormy in the area so I turned the TV on for sound. I guess nobody enabled the usual hotel feature of resetting to channel 1, as I was greeted by porn. I appreciate this isn’t a room for kids, but I was put in there because they failed to schedule properly, it could happen. I changed the channel and after a few minutes, half of the screen was taken over by white bars. I thought this was the storm initially, so I changed the channel and then turned the screen off. No matter what you do, it returns shortly. The location is great for the stadium and airport, it’s a short walk from a bus stop, and a drive for everything else. It’s not ideal if you’re not driving or renting a car. For $ 69, I’m not complaining about the hotel itself. An adequate bed, parking and decent wi-fi normally cost you more than that anyway.

The rooms are no frills basic rooms. Bed, TV and a desk. They do have internet which might be considered an extra. My friends and I arrived after driving from Milwaukee and picking up the tickets across from Wrigley Field from the broker to go to Toyota Park the next day. We were tired from a full day at opening day at Summerfest, The Big Gig. The room wasn’t anything to really look at until we turned out the lights, the room then glowed in the dark with dim yellow stars on a dark blue background. We laughed a bit. Reminisced about the day, and forgot about the yellow stars. The room was clean, the bathroom clean. Would stay here again if in the area.
