The hero’s are alright, but nothing that blew me away. It was soggy from too much oil and vinegar. The blt or egg sandwich wasn’t any good. I agree with a few other posts on here that the owner is short tempered and not very welcoming. There was like 2 people in there at lunchtime, the place was completely dead and the owner was kind of annoying. Ive noticed on various occasions that the owner is not really friendly. If you want an average sandwich and poor/rude service go here.

They serve real french fries here! They slice real potatoes in the shape of potato chips leaving just the right amount of skin on and fry it up with a little bit of salt on top. They also give you a wide cup of ketchup that you can dip them into. What place in New Jersey still serves real fries? Certainly none of the fast food restaurants… Everything is fake nowadays but you can get real fries here!

Love this place! A little hard to spot unless you know where it is but WOW! Sandwiches are delish, and the prices are more than fair! Definitely worth stopping in to try!

First time trying the Hoagie Hut. My sister recommended it and I checked out the reviews and decided to grab lunch on my break. To be honest, I can’t even tell you if the food is good because my order was completed messed up. I asked for an Italian Sub with added pepperoni to go. Once I got to work and opened it up I realized they made me a lettuce sub with a few slices of pepperoni. Like what? that is not an Italian Sub. Wait. Does this even count as a sub? Doing so is offensive to sub connoisseur’s if that’s even a profession. The main reason for my one star rating? The owner is very rude. He was short tempered and I felt rushed to order. He didn’t make me feel welcome and in fact is the main reason I will most likely not recommend nor come back. Customers should be treated friendly and appreciated, maybe he even messed up my order on purpose. Not fair and not happy. #hangry

had a ham and cheese sub. pretty good but i prefer more than 3 pieces of ham and 3 pieces of cheese on a sub. i prefer a well packed sub… lol. there were more toppings than meat. reasonable prices. very friendly.

My experience was Medicare. The price was decent but the quantity wasn’t anything special. It took quite awhile to make an Italian sub. Granted it was lunch time, but it wasn’t crowded. I got about a slice of eat cold cut… Kind of a disappointment. I wasn’t sure if I was eating a bread sandwich or an Italian sub.

Updating since past visit been awhile since Ive gone amazing service now new updated register system cashier was extremely nice to customers an genuinely great guy. An the quality of the food always seems to get better. If your looking for great food at a reasonable price in the area this is the place to be.

Tried this place for the first time since I work in the area. At first glance reminds me of a business from the 80s as far seating and vibe not that it’s a good or bad thing. The first thing I noticed was the pricing seemed somewhat expensive compared to my local place they were about 1 – 2 dollars more depending on whether you get a half or whole sub. As far as the staff goes the main person up front was friendly, made the sub quickly and to order correctly. The sub was a big sandwich to eat but had a way greater toppings to meat ratio. For me usually a sub shops rolls dictate whether I enjoy the place, I didn’t really care for these as they weren’t as soft as I would have liked and the ends were hard. If I had to rate this place it would be middle of the pack. Nothing overly outstanding to keep me going back nor something terrible to say I wouldn’t eat there again.

I’ve been going here since I was a little girl and my mom has as well. She talks about when it used to be an actual hut and there were no shops next to it. I have never had a hoagie better than the ones I have here. The bread is really good and the ingredients are always fresh. So much better than the subway across the street. The other people that reviewed the owner as crabby don’t know him and had a bad first impression. I don’t really know him either but he’s not crabby, he’s just not the kind of person that gives off a warm, friendly feel, but he is sure not mean. Don’t let what other people have says about the owner deter you from trying these hoagies. So good.

Great sub shop. Good quality rolls and no skimping on the fresh ingredients. If you’re up to date on your cardiologist visits, get a cheese steak sandwich with a side of hut fries.

The is the most northern in the state I’ve ever seen the word«hoagie» used. Thats absolutely a south Jersey thing and this area isn’t exactly south. First impressions — plenty of room inside and very clean which I liked. The menu was a simple which usually means the owner is trying to do a few things very well. I’ll give it 3 stars because it was a solid hero but nothing that blew me away. One thing that could turn the tide for me would just be adding more meat to the sandwich. Nothing says Jersey hero more than a sandwich whopping with cuts. It doesn’t have to look ridiculous, it just has to look like you’re getting a lot for your money. They have whole wheat too which was a nice touch.

Ate there today. It used to be 4 star worthy but the staff all changed and now the sandwiches had little to no meat. Where’s the beef? And this is GREAT… They have a big screen TV… FACINGTHESTAFF!!! You can’t even see the TV as a customer. Classic.

Let me preface by saying the owner challenged me to find a better tuna sub for $ 7. I did Just Subs in Green Brooke blow your subs away. The owner is rude, the food is over priced, you are arrogant for no good reason, your food isn’t good at all.

I’ve been loving this place since it was a real life hut. I’ve been trying to budget my time and swing by for the«Hoagie» I remember. I moved out of the area a couple years ago and have been forced to refer to hoagies as «heroes» here in NYC. It’s been the least of my problems but it’s annoying nonetheless. On Tuesday morning our dog passed away so we got out of the city and headed to my hometown of Hillsborough, NJ to mourn our loss. I craved something that would satisfy my need for nostalgia, my appetite for a real NJ hoagie, and other given comforts that my girlfriend and I were able to attain. The Hoagie Hut held up and made me remember what a quality business the owner, Robert had built and maintained. The food was incredible — it reminded me of the hard work people put into business when our economy was booming in 80’s and 90’s. I was very frustrated to see that Subway had decided to strategically set up shop caddy cornered to the legendary Hoagie Hut. Do HH a favor and pretend the Subway is not there. USA.

It’s pretty good but I think years ago it was better. One of the reviewers has it exactly right when he says he’s never had a bad sandwich here but he has never had an exceptional one either. They commit one of the cardinal sins of sub making. If you get oil and vinegar, they will open up the bread and saturate it with the liquid, guaranteeing soggy bread. This I have never understood. I also think they could kick up the quality of their ingredients a bit.

Good spot for people on the go. They make their sandwiches here nice and fast. I like to eat my food hot, so I went with meatballs on a hoagie. Bread was fresh just the way it should be, and the meatballs was just right. Got it in under 5 minutes, and there was a decent amount of people inside during lunch time. I would go back here again to try the turkey sandwich, everyone seems to be ordering it when I was there. Place was small small, the sandwiches are huge though so for the price, its pretty worth it.

Huge hoagies. Who could eat a full? I ordered one and was full after half(which is about 9″). It was great though and I look forward to polishing it off. I ordered a turkey w provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion and brown mustard. MMMM. Bread was fresh and slightly chewy. Meat was fresh and delicious. Toppings were FRESH and tasty. Brown mustard was just a little spicy, as it should be. Really good, solid choice for a sandwich, but nothing that would put it over the top to get a 5 star rating.

Me and the SO came here after a perhaps ill-planned hike last week when it was like 97 degrees. We were famished and just wanted something substantial. I remembering passing this place when leaving Somerville earlier that week and since we were in the neighborhood we went there. We got a whole roast beef and cheese sub, and added turkey(we were starving!). They were able to split the whole into two separate sandwiches, since the SO wanted Swiss cheese, and I wanted provolone. We got the works, and our sandwich halves were also cut in half and clearly marked in about five minutes, even during a busy lunch hour. The service we got was really great, and the guy behind the register was really friendly. They also had massive Arnold Palmers, so we got that to drink as well. We did bring our sandwiches home and ate them to the last crumb– they were pretty yummy and filled with meat, cheese. The toppings were ample, and the oil and vinegar was perfect– not too greasy or soggy. It was about 16 bucks for our lunch, because had the extra addition of turkey. Not that bad, and maybe a little bit more than we are used to for paying for sandwiches, but a great meal that left us full.

Good subs — the #7 «Hoagie Hut Special» is a tutorial in deli meats and cheeses. Quick service, not the friendliest but what do you want for a $ 10 lunch with drink and chips?
