China Cafe

We ordered Mongolian beef and there was no beef. When we called to complain we were hung up on multiple times. WORST customer service. I hope they go out of business! Guess we will be going to the new place in New Buffalo from now on. How do you run a business with customer service like that? Ridiculous!!!

I am a local that enjoys Chinese food. I have given this place so many chances I have even surprised myself. It does not seem to be the cleanest place for sure. This last meal there will be exactly that… my last meal there. .forever…why? Was it the yellow broccoli? No. IT WAS THE PIECE OF WIRE I FOUND IN MY FOOD… or should I say in my mouth! Done with this place!

Food was tasteless. General Tso’s chicken and garlic chicken each had only carrots and zucchini with 2 mushrooms. Absolutely no flavor. Sorry it was a negative experience.

1^st time customer, food very good, very dirty dining area. I can only imagine that the kitchen is no cleaner. Saturday night at 6pm & the two of us made 4 customers in the dining area. Not a good sign! It’s well lit so I’m looking around and I see filth everywhere. The beer/​wine list on the table was very sticky & cruddy. You can write your name in the dust on the back of every chair. I put my arm on the table & I’m sure I left some hairs there whilst trying to get it back off, it was that sticky. The other couple left & we watched the server remove the dishes & replace the setting without wiping the table down, she never even took a rag to the table. Yes, probably should have left then but, what the heck, we have that sense of adventure! The food I must say was very good, I had beef & broccoli, my husband had house fried rice. His was brought hot, mine was warm & that concerns me but seemed very fresh, I will update this post if I’m ill tomorrow! A friendly waitress, a good scrubbing, and maybe some music for setting the mood, and I think they may fill those 61 seats on Saturday night. Three takeout orders left while we were there. Good food, wasted space. Obviously no management or at least no trained manager.

If you’re older than 30 years old, then you’ll remember the charm of the Chinese restaurants of your youth: lanterns hanging from the ceiling, red money envelopes festooning the walls, obligatory goldfish tank (for good luck!) and all the other kitschy-​cool decorations that went into setting an «exotic local». If you miss those days and the extraordinary food that always came with that décor, then search no further if you live or visit Berrien County, Michigan. Located in an old bank from the 1920’s, the minute you walk into this spacious restaurant, you’re magically transported back to the ’50’s. Service is fantastic: as long as I’ve lived here (15 years) the same people run the place, from front to back. Food is memorable and fantastic and need I add… PLENTIFUL! Every «small» order serves two starving people with plenty of leftovers; when I order just for myself, I can dine off of the small orders for 2 – 4 days!
Having a brisk Take Out service, where there are times 8 people are waiting for their orders, this is also the place to just chill and enjoy a time and place that is rapidly disappearing from the American Experience as places feel pressured to «up grade» and become Hipster Hang-​Outs. Fortunately for those of us that live here, the owners have felt NO NEED to do anything with their décor, instead, concentrating their talents on creating affordable and wonderfully flavored foods.
Be sure to check out the Ben Franklin’s store directly across the street from China Café if you want to continue your nostalgic trip, back in time. It was the late-​great Roger Ebert’s favorite place to visit when he came to Bridgman in the Summer. :D
