Ok, this is Brinnon, WA a little North of Hoodsport, South of Port Townsend. My first time attending the ShrimpFest, but I believe it is held annually on Memorial Day weekend. I also heard it used to be held down the road near the Dosewallips campground. Pretty country out here, fun to get away from the City for awhile. This is a fun side trip that we combined with a stop in the town of Hoodsport. The festival had free parking, and was charging $ 4 admission. Whatever, they need to pay all those people the hire to keep it running smooth as it was. I was hoping for a SHRIMP overload upon arriving, think OYSTERFEST in Shelton proportions, but it just wasn’t that. Hood Canal Shrimp are something special. Very limited seasons, I hear they get 2,000 boats converging on the occasional day the open the fishery for a few hours. Frozen Shrimp were going by the gate 10 for $ 15. There were just a few food vendors doing the shrimp. I got an order of fries and 4 shrimp(prob not hoodcanal) for $ 10. The kids got a small pep pizza made fresh, saw them rolling the dough and putting it in the small oven for like $ 6 — best food deal, and you could get shrimp instead for extra $. They had a vendor selling something you add to a bottle of wine and freeze creating a wine slushie which was popular. A guy was selling violins that he refurbishes for a great price. Some sign makers, trinket sellers, spices/dips, soaps, and a great artisan making hats/rugs out of wool she dyes/spins herself. Enjoy the views, food, music, vendors and belt sander races. See you next year Brinnon.
