I truly do try to support local, small business owners but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. We had been buying our fish once a week from the local grocery store and having some great luck. All wild caught. Very fresh and tasty fish. No complaints. The only reason why I wanted to switch was to support a small business owner. I just can’t do it after this first experience. Walked in looking for a specific type of fish. Ok they didn’t have it. I didn’t expect them to only have 3 or 4 types of fish. Not much of a selection. Some shell fish and other items that were premade such as stuffed lobster tails and marinated fish steaks. We decided on the swordfish. I realize this is my mistake. I told the clerk anyone of the biggest steaks would be fine. He grabs the one that is off color and smells heavily. The oldest one in the group and least fresh. Not a good customer experience. It’s been my experience having worked in a small business my whole life that you don’t sacrifice quality and freshness to move product. It shows lack of appreciation for the customer. For some reason I let the clerk choose the fish and not myself. Oh well, lets see how it goes. Swordfish, wild caught cost $ 18.99 lb. Yeah… yikes. Price Chopper swordfish $ 9.99 lb. Big difference. Both wild caught. Grade a. So what’s the difference? Well I cooked both fish the same exact way and the fish from Price Chopper was a lot lighter and had so much more flavor. Customer service in general was very good. The clerk was very friendly and seemed to keep the store really clean. However even that was an issue. Any time I walk into a fish market and smell nothing but bleach it leads me to think they are covering up something. A fish market needs to smell a little of fish but not over powering and a little of the ocean water not just bleach. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say he probably just cleaned up. Overall not a great experience. I’m not made of money and will continue to buy my seafood from Price Chopper or Stew Leonard’s when I’m up that way. Just can’t bring myself to pay double the price even if it means supporting local business.

BESTSEAFOODAROUND hands down. I USED to go to the local stop and shop or price chopper for fresh seafood until I heard about this place. If you are looking for FRESH seafood this is the place to go, everything is fresh, from the salmon pinwheels to the monster rolls. Upon entering the store you can tell by the smell alone that everything they offer is fresh I now refuse to go anywhere else when I am on the mood for seafood. Their lobsters are straight from Maine and taste so fresh and just right. I recently purchased a Haddock roll stuffed with fresh lobster covered in bread crumbs called the«Maine Monster Roll» and I can’t wait until I order it again. They even go as far as writing down the instructions of how to properly cook everything right on the packaging. Tucked in the store front across from CVS this hidden gem should be in its own building no questions asked. If you are looking for fresh seafood at great prices then look no further. Not only is their seafood the freshest I’ve ever seen but the staff is so friendly. After going their just a few times they call me by my first name every time I walk into the doors. I can’t say enough how great this place is and how lucky Bristol is to have this as a part of its community and businesses. Keep doing your thing guys and I will continue to not only get my seafood from you but tell everyone I see who asks«where’s a good place to get seafood from». The answer to that is Straight From Maine Seafood. I promise that who ever is reading this post you will not be disappointed and will have to look no where else when in the mood for fresh seafood. They truly have Straight From Maine Seafood. If they don’t have what you current want it’s only because their boat is out fishing for it at that moment… Doesn’t get fresher than that now does it

Overly friendly in the very best way possible. During our huge October freak snowstorm last year, they offered their freezers to people in need. Nobody does that anymore. it’s nice to see an insanely fresh seafood market in this area that isn’t overly expensive and«fresh»…which many times means they took it out of a frozen bag. Best part is, is when you become friends with them on Facebook, they make a conscious effort to always update as to what the fresh catch coming in will be and when it will be available. Their steamers are some of the best I ever had and came in clutch this summer when my attempt at harvesting them myself epically failed. Do yourself a favor, if you love fresh seafood of any kind, stop in here. It’s always changing and never disappointing.
