Oh man. The torresma con malageta is the best in brockton! Ill even come from quincy to grab me some! Their pastel is really good here too.

Definitely a hidden gem. I’ve lived in the area all my life and had never realized they serve food. The food is awesome and reasonably priced for a good sized portion. It’s a nice alternative to fast food if you want something quick, healthier and delicious.

I had never had Cape Verdean food before and I figured Brockton was the place to get it. What a lovely experience Alves was. The lady behind the counter saw that we were dumbfounded by the steam table offerings, and unprompted began handing us free samples. When I asked for pasteles(thanks to the review by Lili R., which also pointed us to Alves in the first place) the lady lit up and smiled sweetly. The customer next to us beamed with pride that we were trying his national cuisine, and told us so. We ended up with massive portions of yellow rice with lima beans, hominy in some kind of creamy sauce, bits of pork marinated in vinegar(?) and very meaty barbequed ribs, plus two pasteles for $ 10.62. All of it was tasty and satisfying. I just wish they had a couple tables so we could sit down and really handle this massive feast.

Local, Family owned grocery store that makes traditional cape verdean food, appetizers, and deserts daily. Great place for home cooked meals. One of the best places in Brockton to get the traditional cape verdean pastel(fried dough filled with tuna). Only downfall is I wish the filling was more and they had more filling choices but overall great stop for some quick food.
