Central Music II

I used to go to the original Central Music back in the 70’s when it was safe on main St. Took my drum lessons form Mr Bruns at the old BHS and the took lessons at Signature music until my drum teacher left for a gig in CA, Then I found Dick Johnson and stayed with him for many years. It was fun to go downstairs and go through vinyl and 8 tracks. Great to check out drum sets like they have at Guitar Center. When Main St. Became Planet of the apes and heroin addicted streetwalkers claimed the turf it was a smart move for them to move up the road towards Pear St. My only gripe is that that their website does not have a used equipment inventory like DeCenso’s of Braintree or any of the Guitar centers. I called 1 day to inquire about used drums and I was met with a stern «what do want»? We have a used drum set in Black «…Come on in’ ??? I ended up finding something nice on e Bay. In fact I have put an entire kit together by buying slightly used drums and hardware for ¹⁄₃ the price of a new set of drums. You can find both vintage and new kits, cymbals, and hardware. e Bay rocks

Finally went to the new Central Music. Some things never change. The guy that looks like the ape man still works there.
I was looking for the new Fandango guitar picks — he said they would be coming in after the first of the year. Instead he advised me to buy the new Taylor streamline picks for $ 5 a piece.
I really believe this guy is from another planet.
I then inquired about drum lessons for my younger brother. They said no drum teacher at the present time. But they did try to sell me the new packaged pee pee drum sticks. I said my brother would probably like them. The guy that looks like the apeman said Pee Pee has improved the stick with a new type of artificial hair on the handle to keep the hands when playing outdoors in the winter.
With that, I walked out. This place is strange at best.

I AM SO GLAD THE NEW OWNERS are who they are. Being a musician in the Brockton area since the mid ‘70s, I have avoided central music over the years because of the previous owner (Bad breathe Bob). I installed a security system in the new location at 365 Westgate Drive & had the pleasure of meeting the new owners Mike & Caroline Conrad (both accomplished musicians & very personable). They are a godsend to The Brockton area music scene as far as I’m concerned considering Ted Vallee and his cigars are long gone RIP

I went into the new place today and got some books that I really needed for my singing repertoire. Nice and clean and organized!

Went there for piano lessons when I lived in Brockton I only lasted 3 months. The instructor was so bad I skipped my last lesson and let hem keep the money. The guy was more concerned about his own future career as a potential musician. That he didn’t bother teaching me much. He asked me to bring in a piano song I liked and he would teach me to play it. He listened to it and told me let’s try something he knew how to play. Place is a joke and instructors don’t have a clue.

Recently moving to the area I searched for a reputable music instructor for my two children. I figured this would be it.
The sales floor is very spacious and has a lot of guitars. That’s about all that they have is guitars. Sheet music for days and a few dated keyboards is what they have to offer. I checked their prices against Guitar Center and it’s a lot more expensive!
The music teachers are mediocre, nothing great. One complaint that I have is that the music teacher kept cancelling his appointments. At one appointment he didn’t bother to even call and cancel. We showed up and they said he was on vacation! Really?!
It seems as if this place is poorly managed and it’s too bad. It has a nice look and feel, but don’t be fooled. I’d rather travel to Braintree and try Guitar Center, or search for a private teacher.
