Shopfront is deceptively small. But DON’T let that fool you! Like a beautiful peacock… what they seem to lack out front, they make up for out back. They have beasts of all shapes and sizes somewhere out there. Very possibly peacocks too? Friendly butcher, I think John is his name. Loves his sport(managing to even stay loyal to the Jets– a true sports fan). And certainly knows his meat. Brings the right cut from out back. Comes, chops ands prepares it for you out front. The full service. And the meat was great FYI! So stoked to have now found our own local butcher! Only drawback… it’s CASHONLY

Marvelous, no nonsense, neighborhood butcher. Been there for 4 generations, and hope it stays there for a bunch more.

You need meat? You go to Astor Prime. Family owned and operated for 4 generations and it shows. Located snugly between a dry cleaner NOT owned by Asians, and a wak pizzeria, this place is a jewel of the neighborhood. And it is walking distance from the infamous«Dinkie.» The meat comes from Hunt’s Point(and not it is not the meat of dead hookers found in the kills of Hunts Point, I promise!), it is hand prepared by the family three times a week. The salsice is made fresh in the back(take it from me, I used to make it). Also, if you ever want to eat a raw hot dog for free, this is the place to go. If you ever have trouble getting there, don’t worry, they deliver(even to the projects; the delivery boys come packin cleavers for those special deliveries). Family is super friendly, super clean, and takes care of the regulars. Real Italian style. Piece of advice: if you live in an apartment building and order for delivery, make sure the delivery boy does not shout out«The Meat!» when he knocks on the door and you ask who it is. The neighbors may get the wrong idea. Places like Astor Prime Meats make the neighborhood what it is by keeping a family owned business who knows their clientele like the back of their hand. Try the steak burgers and just about anything else.
