Great food! Great Service! If you’re looking for some good, quick Jamaican quisine this is the place to go. I always go for the goat head soup, jerk chicken, and their escovitch fish is very flavorful. Definitely will be going back.

The service sucks in here. Long lines. And cramped space. I would not mind waiting on a long line for YUMMY food… but the food isn’t even that great. I came down with the flu, a friend suggested some good Jamaican chicken soup. I was close by… so I decided to get it here… BADIDEA. I barely got any chicken in the soup. I ordered a large, and it was mostly all broth., if I wanted broth I would’ve ordered that. I wanted chicken/vegetable soup. My husband ordered oxtail with peas and rice. He ate half of his meal, he said it wasn’t too bad, but he’s had better, his favorite is from Gold Star. I don’t know, maybe they were having and off day? I’ll give em ONE more shot.

Leave it to a white person from Brooklyn to go on Unilocal & write a review for a local neighborhood Jamaican joint that’s been known as one of the best choices in Wakefield(Little Jamaica of the BX) for years. LOL. Well that’s me– and I guess I’m XTRAXTRA caucasiantastic by putting Big Daddy’s on the Unilocal map, but maybe more people will come & check them same way And I’m not here to do the usual annoying expected nit-picking whining bs so many of these spoiled pretentious narcissistic nouveau-riche new-to-NY fellow Unilocalers are known to do either… Gotta put Big Daddy’s in the Unilocalisphere to big dem up!!! Jerk chicken meal(w/rice-n-peas, cabbage & plantain for those who don’t know) was purchased for me by my lovuh who’s been a Nereid Ave lifer after he & his friends talked it up to death. I’ve lived in highly Jamaican neighborhoods for most of my life, including now, so while I do basically take it for granted & rarely crave it, I do like to check out the style when I venture into other boroughs, cities, or the Caribbean! When I got around to trying to food from Big Daddy’s the other day, I think it took me 2 minutes to basically inhale the whole meal. Such a typical dish, but having lived around and eaten W.I.(Particularly Jamaican) food for life, I think I know mediocre from good, and good from outstanding. And I know nasty as well. Lol My friends from Wakefield say there are many different cooks @ Big Daddy’s and each has a really different style — some cook spicier, some with a thicker or thinner gravy, some milder — but they all say that the food @ Big Daddy’s(usually open all night) is & has always been a neighborhood staple. Seeing as they didn’t cook it in the oil drum bbq jawn or pit, and it wasn’t on par with my neighbor’s on my block in Brooklyn who makes the best jerk chicken I’ve had in life, including when I was in JA, I have to give it 4 stars. But the place is legit. The rice-n-peas was better than most, too — I think they use a longer grain & it tasted lovely. Large up & Nuff respect to Big Daddy’s! gwan’n check EM, seen?!
