Let me first say that Dr. Cook is amazing. She’s extremely knowledgeable and very professional and nice.
I’ve been going to Docs medical for over 2 years and I just decided that it is time to look elsewhere. The medical equipment is outdated and every time I take my daughters the office has to refer me else where because they’re extremely limited. The office doesn’t offer vaccines, however they provide pediatric services. One time my daughter got very ill because of Strep and the pediatric doctor that was working prescribed the wrong antibiotic to my daughter. My daughter got extremely ill and when I called Dr. Cook to explain she had me come in and administered the right prescriptions. She seems very concerned with the children that she sees and she is an excellent doctor, however the fact that the other doctors are not so great and that the office is outdated and limited to basic needs sucks.

I’ve been going to DOCS since I myself was a kid, and it has had better days. Dr. Cook (pediatrician) is great, a sweetheart, really cares for and shows an interest in her patients. If this review was only for her, it would be 5 stars. Dr. Quevedo (pediatrician) is very knowledgeable, no-​nonsense, and really quick.
The staff, however, leaves much to be desired. While the medical assistants are nice in general, I don’t feel they receive much training and are pretty much left to figure things out on their own.
I arrived on time for my ‘appointment’, only to be called in after walk-​ins. The response was «This is a walk in clinic.» After a couple of stare downs that would burn a hole in her head, the medical assistant called my child next.
Everyone knows drawing blood can be a good or bad experience depending on who’s doing it. My poor daughter was their victim and pin cushion. As an RN myself, I just wanted to wrap the tourniquet around their necks. No gloves, they were fishing for a vein, instead of removing and starting over again, did not remove the tourniquet until after the blood draw was finished, much to my detestation and comments to correct them. Basic phlebotomy 101.
My other daughter, a newborn, was there for a checkup with Dr. Cook the same day. Medical assistant wanted to weigh her with all her clothes on. We had to insist we remove her clothes to get an accurate reading. Then said MA measured the head circumference and left a lot of slack in the measuring tape. Hubby had to correct her again. Wait, what? These are very basic, simple vital signs that my 3 year old could perform.
Went in for another well-​baby checkup within the next 2 weeks, my newborn finally had her own insurance card which I showed to the MA at the front desk. Was told I wasn’t covered, which was obviously wrong, as I was just there 2 weeks prior. SHE asked ME to call MY insurance company so that SHE could verify my coverage. Turns out she was checking my eligibility under the wrong insurance company. Ummm. Duh!
And the straw that broke the camel’s back (and why I decided to take my children’s care to Montefiore in Yonkers)… DRUMROLL… I had been warned that vaccines aren’t always available here, so I decided to call before bringing in my baby for her 2-​month vaccines. I was told they would put them aside for me and label them with her name on it; although 1 wasn’t in stock, I could come back the following month when they would have it. This would mean my child getting vaccinated at 2 months old, 3 months old, and then due again for her 4 month shots. As a parent, why would I put my baby through this misery?
I would only continue to come here on an urgent need basis as a walk-​in, as their hours are really suitable (open early/​late) and for Dr. Cook. I don’t recommend this place for primary care services as they have no nursing staff and it is poorly run.
I do give this place 3 stars because their hours are great. You can expect to come here for walk-​in service when your primary physician can’t fit you in, especially for physicals/​paperwork, etc.

I am really disappointed that it didn’t work out with this place for my son. We week looking for a pediatrician for my baby son and there aren’t many in this area of The Bronx. My complaint isn’t with doctor Cook, the pediatrician. She’s actually fantastic. Great bedside manor, down to earth, and very knowledgeable. The practice is just very poorly run. They were unable to vaccinate my son because they didn’t have the vaccines. And wouldn’t get them.
