Stopped here with my little family to take a break on our way down 95. The park was big, had lots of green space, was right on the water, and was not at all busy on a Monday late afternoon in June. However, it was also incredibly dirty and had trash everywhere! This is probably because it’s a free park but it was kind of gross and made me feel a little nervous because of broken glass all around. Granted, I’m from Maryland and not as used to New York city parks, but my overall impression was just that it was a nice big space on the water but not worth the gross factor.

Just a gem of a public space. Not easily accessible via public transit, but I think that adds to the charm. There are remnants of former promenades that people fish off of now, right down on the Sound. Many soccer and cricket fields.

This is a great free park located right under the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge which connects the Bronx and Queens counties. Getting there via car is a breeze. I took the last exit before the tolls and was easily prompted via signs to the park. The parking lot of no paved and very bumpy, but there was more than enough space for cars. Upon entering the park, I noticed a lot of sports going on. There was soccer and football games going on. The teams seemed to be color coordinated which leads me to believe that they were park of an organized league of some sort. There is plenty of space to set up a grill or use the few that are there. There are also beautiful views of the waterfront looking onto Queens and ofcourse the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. There is a rocky beach where I saw only fishermen setting up lines. I was told that Bluefish and Striped Bass are in the water, but any catch is a rare occurrence. Overall it was a great experience. You cannot go wrong spending an afternoon grilling, or even sitting back and catching a live game.
