I try to avoid this place like the plague. I would put zero stars if possible. The workers behind the counter are very rude, and the selection of the store is very limited. Besides being limited, it’s overpriced. The workers swear up and down that because of their little liquor store in one of the better areas of the Bronx, they are above their customers. They make rude unnecessary comments. One time they were supposed to give me $ 10 dollars change but gave me a dollar instead. I realized after I left the store it was a dollar and went back for my remainder. They locked the door behind me in a threatening manner, and told me I was lying. They then began counting their register total. After the ten minutes of watching the clerks struggle to count, the register was $ 9 dollars over. I received my money and left. I would highly recommend getting your liquor or wine at Buhre avenue liquor store by the train station, or the one on Middletown road and crosby. Gana Wine and Spirits is a dump.

I must say that this spot is going to do great in the neighborhood! The new owners are wonderful! Very friendly and helpful! Went inside to grab some wine for a night out with the girls and they had many options(which impressed us immediately) not to mention that they had many top notch liquors as well! No need to drive any further… GANA looks like they will cater to us all! =)

10÷31÷07 It is a small liquor store which does not seem to belong in the neighborhood(I forget if it was a fish market before). The selection is very limited. I only buy wine here if I am desperate and need to hit the bottle as I jump off the subway. 12÷8÷07 Update As I needed to buy wine tonight for a physician’s house party(yes, I am a lucky ‘nebbish’ to have such a prestigious group of friends… I take it back, they are only acquaintances) I passed by and saw a new commercial awning. GANA Wines. Holy Rotten Rats, Batman. I must investigate. I walk inside and it’s the same… except the middle is bare. I spoke to the new owner and he tells me that he’s got big things planned and needs another week to build new shelves and reorganize. Oh well, while I’m here I pick up four bottles of bargain vino. Two are wines I’ve never tried. The owner told me that Gana comes from his kids’ two names. I believe he said Gabriela and Anthony, or something like that. I think the new name alone(departure from the boring name) gives this place a fresh start. Bumped to 3 stars(even though they do not accept AMEX nor do they remove price tags from bottles). 12÷18÷07 Update I’m desperate and remembered that I have no alcohol at home except a half bottle of Pinot Noir and a can of Coors Light(that is going to go before dinner). I walked inside and was impressed. There is a newly built shelf in the middle and it looks better than before. I could come here and get what I wanted in terms of liquor… ie if I wanted Patron, Alize or Hennessey. However if I wanted a distinct wine suggestion, ie a sweet, fruity, smooth red, then you’re better off asking a meterologist with a weather forecast being determined by licking your finger and sticking it in the air.
