Harmony records is a long time record shop serving the Parkchester area of the Bronx. One of the few music stores that carry a large vinyl selection. Record labels don’t generally press vinyl anymore so you will find a selection of older hip-hop, soul, disco, and funk. They also carry CDs and dj mix CDs. This is a family owned and operated record shop and you will always find the owner there taking custom orders from regulars. That’s what makes this place great, The mom and pop record store that caters to its client base. I’ve spent time there chatting with the owner about music and the industry. The prices are what you’d expect from a mom and pop shop and the owner knows his music so prices aren’t cheap. If you’re looking for a particular artist he might have it otherwise he can order it for you. With the advent of digital djing a lot of people have sold their vinyl collections, and some have ended up at Harmony records, so you might find some rare gems here. I myself bought some 45rpm 7″ records from here(we call them 45s but I wanted to clarify for my non-record people). In any case, this place is a rarity, being a mom and pop vinyl record shop. It does carry current CD selections, and has some nice vintage posters hanging up. Check it out if you’re in the area and if you’re a vinyl head definitely make a stop.
