I have lived in the neighborhood for two years and was super excited to find something from my culture as it is a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. However, after going here once — I couldn’t bring myself to return. I went for breakfast and their one win was that they had $ 5 plates(super rare in this day and age). I ordered ackee & salt fish with food(dumplings, banana, yam) and the guy at the counter thought I was cute so he gave me a piece of fried chicken as well. Once I got home and took the food out, the plate was drenched in oil(he obviously didn’t try to strain the oil before serving) –__-. Taste wise, the cook was adequate on the ackee(not too hard/soft) but the salt fish wasn’t salted and thus made the meal BLAND. I understand that high blood pressure is a thing that many African Americans suffer from but you have to find a happy medium when serving the public. Now apart from a no taste breakfast, when I finally went to try the chicken, the inside was pink and the outside felt like it hadn’t fried enough. UNACCEPTABLE! With that said, I will not return until they get it together and represent the culture appropriately.

Good, freshly cooked Jerk chicken with cabbage and rice delivered with a smile. Will definitely go again when I’m in the neighborhood and hungry!

Kaylahs hut has the best food that I have ever had in my entire life. I love this place. They have the best lunch specials. I wish that I could come here everyday for the rest of my life.

I went on PR day parade, so dude told me half of the staff was missing, and apparently so was half of the menu for that matter. With a short list I ended up eating Oxtail, rice/beans, macaroni and cabbage/collard greens. The Oxtail didn’t fall off the bone and my girl said it was cooked too long, supposedly. The rice and peas had no flavor, and I couldn’t tell if it was a lack of gravy or just no flavor. The macaroni was delicious, and the cabbage was… cabbage(He mixed it with collards for whatever reason). My GF ordered curry chicken and her dish tasted better than mine and she enjoyed it. It was a miss for me, but maybe when I go back, when they have a FULL staff it might be good. Portion was OK, though, for $ 8…

I have ate here twice. The oxtails could have been cooked longer(they were very chewy. they definitely did not fall of the bone). The yams were good. I’ve had better rice and peas. it was a little under seasoned. Overall, I would go back, not for the ox tails but maybe just for the yams.

Still trying menu items from Kaylahs. Just had the fried chicken for the first time. It was spectacular. I remember the last time I went, I got curry goat. That also is fantastic. Pretty much everything I’ve had from the Hut has been good thus far. On todays visit, The owner(who is a older, nice, guy) gave me 4 huge pieces of chicken, and enough mac and cheese to last for two days. Generous serving of kale, and the plantains brought it all home. Everything was great as expected. Searched for my Ting, to no avail. I suspect Unilocalers mighta gotten to it before I did. Rass!

On the advice of the previous two Unilocalers, my bf and I came here for Jamaican food. Totally no frills(no knives for example and foam plates) but the BEST jerk chicken we ever had, straight out of the oven. Just delicious and the sides were great too. Wouldn’t recommend the smoothies but would definitely come back for a meal.

I hardly write reviews so for me to write this you know that this is serious. I am a local resident and this is my FAVORITE restaurant. Their food is awesome, the food comes in good portions and the Owner is very friendly and humble. The food is authentic and has the perfect seasonings. If you want Jamaican food please come here, it is a diamond in the rough. My favorite plate is the Oxtails but don’t take my word on it everything is Delicious!
