Friendly staff, from warehouse workers to office staff. Julie helped to take my order. The great thing about this lumber company is you can walk through warehouse and see and choose what you want. I went to another place before this and the prices were 50% more. American walnut board ft here a little over $ 9 and the other place $ 15

Most of the negative reviews are pathetic. I know exactly what theyre talking about, but those are all company policy. They dont cut wood, period. I own a custom furniture shop and I buy lots of solidwood and plywood from them. If you are a «small» customer, go to home depot. Dont bring your little«zipcar» to a loading dock. PS, if you are nice enough they have a power cord and they will let you use your own circular saw or a jigsaw outside. Rosenzweig is highly recommended for the variety of species, but again its a wholesale type of lumber yard, hence the affordable prices. If you need matchsticks, go to home depot or lowes.

Worst type of business and people you’ll ever meet! They never delivered my wood and when I called asking about it, I was told to call another day multiple times. When I finally got someone on the phone, the person lied saying that they did deliver it(that someone must’ve stolen it — which is not possible since they call you when they make the delivery, which they never did, and make you a sign a sheet to confirm). When I asked them to check they said it was definitely delivered(he didn’t even try to check). I also asked them to make sure that they had my correct phone number but apparently that wasn’t possible because the driver has it, but that they«called multiple times». I called again few seconds after and the same person answers the phone. When I confronted him about the fact that I know nobody took my wood since they would have to sign, all of a sudden he tells me magically, ohh it wasn’t delivered but that they«called multiple times». By this time, my wood is 3 days late and so I ask him if it is possible to get it delivered by that day. He says no because my wood isn’t $ 500 minimum(I ordered as part of a large shipment so I could get free delivery) and that its company policy. So when I ask when they could deliver he says he doesn’t know. Then he LAUGHS at me pretty much saying it was not their fault and that it was mine and that they had no reason to deliver. Wow really? By this time I’m getting pretty fed up so I ask if I could talk to his supervisor. He again LAUGHS and MOCKS me while he tells his coworker PURPOSEFULLY so I could hear. You have got to be kidding me! Thankfully his supervisor was much nicer and when I asked again to check to make sure it was my phone number apparently is was«possible» and took less than a minute to check. But she also decided to give me the same BS about how they called«multiple times» and refused to deliver my wood because it was company policy and denied responsibility. There was a reason why I ordered as part of a large shipment! So I ask for a refund and she says she’ll call me later that day(apparently it takes them all day to do). She calls me right as they are closing so I can’t even call back!(I was in a situation where I couldn’t answer the phone right away). In the end, I just went to Dykes instead, who by the way are very helpful and have amazing customer service! Totally recommend! All in all, the people here are LIERS! They will BLAMEYOU and LAUGH at you just to HUMILIATEYOU. Horrible customer service and will deny any type of responsibility! They are also infamous for hanging up on you and cursing. Just never thought it was this bad!

These guys are the WORST. I’ve been trying for a week to get the correct lumber order from them, all at my expense. Called on Monday, guy tells me they don’t take phone orders, which I know is not true. I call back on Tuesday and get a very nice guy who kindly takes my order, however, they can’t give me even a ballpark price over the phone. Delivery comes the next day, and they left out 2 pieces. When I call back, they won’t take responsibility for the missing pieces, but tell me they can deliver them the next day. Ok, no problem. An inconvenience, but no problem. When the order came today, they sent me the wrong stuff. I gave them a simple stipulation that I needed minimum 10′ boards. They sent me 8′ boards. Call them to let them know and discuss getting the correct order, and they tell me that I’m too much of an inconvenience and they hang up on me! Call back and the guy tells me I have to come to their yard in the Bronx if I want to assure that I get a 10′ board. Are you kidding me?! I’ve convinced him to come pick up the wrong($ 300) order and refund me, but he refuses to bring the right order on that truck. Tells me I wouldn’t understand that wood comes in various lengths because I’m not a woodworker(I’m an architect). I don’t see how this logic holds up, but either way the whole experience is TERRIBLE customer service and I still don’t have what I need. Save yourself the trouble.

I am a contractor and have been using Rosenzweig for years. Deliveries have always been a problem and going to the warehouse will not save you any time. They are hostile and have never been helpful. When they say they will show up between 10 – 12, expect them between 4 – 5. Some of us can’t afford to waste half of our day on your incompetence.

Like others have already stated, the selection and prices at Rosenzweig are great. Also, most of the staff there are generally friendly and helpful. However, there does seem to be one person in the office that can make working with them miserable. I picked out 10 walnut boards for a project to be delivered to my shop, unfortunately when the delivery came the next day they were missing one of the boards. I wasn’t there to receive the delivery but an employee of mine dealt with it and talked to the driver who signed off on the receipt that only 9 were delivered and that the 10th would come the next day. When this never happened I called and had the rudest person I ever talked to yell at me and try to tell me that it was my fault and that they had no record of that. Although he claimed that they didn’t have any record, he got frustrated talking to me and demanded(!) to talk to my employee who had received the delivery, mentioning him by name despite the fact that I never brought him up… Right, no record… Shady bullshit. The guy must be the owner or related to him because I can’t imagine him keeping his job any other way. After I refused to let him talk to my employee he hung up on me. I went in to the office in person a couple days later and dealt with it through someone else who I was able to convince to credit me a board of average length based on the receipt. But it really shouldn’t have been so hard. They have great prices and stock, and I will probably be there again, but if you can get out to Robert’s Plywood I recommend them for service. They gave me an enthusiastic tour of their whole stock even though I was only buying 10 sheets of plywood. Very friendly and helpful with an amazing selection.

A good spot in NYC for all basic hardwoods and a wide selection of sheet goods. This is a lumberyard that supplies woodworkers and cabinet makers and as such, won’t be happy about cutting up the single board you are buying for your weekend coffee table project, or to re-sell on Etsy or whatever. To demand such service from a lumberyard is akin to going into a bakery and asking them to cut you a slice off of one of their loaves, maybe toast and butter it too if its not too much trouble. In my experience they generally have good quality control. Although they did send me a super shitty 8⁄4 walnut board full of knots which was priced at select grade. But then again, I didn’t go in to look at the product. Which is what you gotta do when you’re buying hardwoods. They will let you pick over the wood all day, which is quite nice indeed.

Five stars for the selection of lumber and for the awesome employee who showed me each type of wood and made recommendations for a project. He cut into his lunch break to do this. Zero stars for the jerks in the back office — namely the one who looks like Snookie’s dad(I didn’t know humans came in shiny orange!). My friend and I had to laugh afterwards because its not possible to process his rudeness any other way. Deliveries require ~$ 200 of material. I recommend deliveries because they will not cut anything for you, even if you drove up in a little zipcar, they have no pity. I was handed a dull saw and told I could cut it outside. Exasperated, a nice employee led me next door to a woodshop. The people inside were super nice and cut my sapele in three pieces for free. There’s plenty of street parking. As expensive as the zipcar and tolls were, if it wasn’t rush hour and if I could get an ikea bag and the pieces cut down — I might have taken the 6 train. Directions say its only 35 minutes from Union Square. The area didn’t seem dangerous, just industrial and empty. Given the reaction however, I believe I was the only female within several blocks. Go in the green door. Plywood is downstairs. Lumber is upstairs. Tell the guys in the front what you want and they’ll get it to the front of the store for you while you go to the room at the back right of the store and pay for it. You may have to clear your throat repeatedly before any of them look up from their papers to acknowledge your presence. I’m assuming you Unilocalers aren’t contractors. Then you get a receipt and can take your wood from the front.

It’s a pretty far haul from almost anywhere in the city but these guys really do have nearly any type of lumber you could want.
