My coworkers and I ordered a cake for a surprise birthday party in the office. We ordered a small cake with half pineapple and vanilla custard filling. It was very dry and the filling was too sweet. It tasted really weird; an Entenmann’s cake from Key Food probably would have tasted better. I don’t see what the hype is except that the cakes seem to be pretty cheap(small cake was only $ 20 and fed 10 – 15 people with some left over).

I have been hearing about this place for years and let me tell you what a big disappointment Valencia is. Valencia cake is dry and nasty. I’m Dominican and I will never ever go and buy a cake that is not made by my own people’s. Valencia was money that I literally flushed down the drain($ 200).

My family has been using Valencia bakery since I was a kid, but after the shenanigans they pulled this weekend, this may be the last time I use them. I made an order for a cake for a surprise bridal shower. The cake was to be delivered to a restaurant before 1 pm as the party would be starting then. I received a call at 10 am asking if the cake can be dropped off at the restaurant at 11 and I told them that would be perfect. I arrived at the restaurant only to be told that it was not delivered. I called Valencia several times only to be told«all of the deliveries are out for today» with no further information. I call again at 12 being told the same answer. As 1pm approached, I am still left with no clue where the cake is 2 hours later and not there in time for the arrival of the surprise guest. I called the main office and some woman named Nancy(who clearly hates her job) gave me the most disgusting attitude I have ever received from any business. She told me she can’t contact delivery drivers and that she can’t help me, which I feel is complete BS if you WORKINTHEOFFICEOFTHEBAKERY!!! She even told me «bye» and hung up the phone on me mid sentence. She never called me back as promised and I had to continue to call in the hopes of finally getting to speak to someone that has decency and and understanding of customer service. Long story short, the cake didn’t arrive until after 2pm and ruined the surprise party completely. Thanks for nothing Valencia.

THEBESTOFTHEBEST!!! I grew up in the South Bronx and live in Virginia Beach and I tell you there is nothing that can ever compare to this cake. I grew up birthday after birthday for 16 years before I left New York and I’ve traveled the world from France, Germany, Europe and the western pacific and I have to say is that Valencia cake is simply the best cake. The cake is moist with its pineapple filling that will make your day. Over 20 years later I decided to organize a secret birthday party for my wife(she never tried this cake before) over my brothers home in the Bronx. When she tried this cake she formed a smile on her face and I knew the recipe never changed! Valencia Cakes I take my hat off to you. KEEPUPTHEGOODWORK.

We took it on a party boat and we all could not wait to get a piece. It was ASALWAYS fresh and moist. It taste even better a day later out of the refrigerator. hmm It was beautiful, wish I could show a pic here. Very affordable too. A 12″ serves approx 25 to 30 and cost approx $ 37 Thanks Valencia for making my last minute party cake a success!

An extremely popular bakery among Hispanics in New York, Valencia Bakery has been baking cakes for decades. Very popular for birthdays, baptisms, sweet sixteens(and Quinceañeras), and weddings, the flavors offered(pineapple, coconut, etc.) were popular among the large Puerto Rican community found in the city. The frosting is amazingly sweet, and the cake presentations are always amazing as the bakery glazes the cake perfectly with frosting and other decorations(sugar flowers, leaves, etc.). Valencia, which is a bakery chain and has many locations throughout the city hasendured the test of time and remains popular even after six decades. Just like Junior’s Cheesecake, Valencia is a New York legacy going strong. Highly recommended!

What is all the«hoop-la» all about with this place? I have family and friends that have raved about this place for over 20 years. I finally got around to trying it and boy was I SO disappointed. I picked up a small cake and some«pastellio» pastries. The cake I have to say was awful(wasn’t soft as I expected). The pastry I grabbed though was probably the best part because it was really, really good but that’s just about where the goodness ended. The store looks exactly as the pictures shared here. There is a small room that showcases some of the larger cakes, then they have cards and other trinkets for sale in the main room. I’m guessing you either love these cakes or simply hate them. I’m not sure there is an attraction that falls down the middle.

In NYC, Dominicans have received the passed torch from the Puerto Ricans. Cake is no exception. Dominican cake may be extremely sweet, but it is also extremely good. Puerto Rican bakeries still exist, offering the treats usually found only on La Isla Bonita, and hold their own. But in the cake world, only one Puerto Rican bakery has stood the test of time. If you ask a Puerto Rican, «Where should I get a cake for X function?», the answer will be Valencia 9⁄10 times. Valencia has several locations but this is the HQ. Great cakes and prices, but flies in an aging, ugly store cost it two stars. PS There’s a small coffee shop attached to the HQ, offering what you would expect.
