This is absolutely, hands down, one of the greatest boxing gyms to go to in New York. There are many gyms to choose from– big and small– but if you want to learn how to BOX, if you want to be treated with care and attentiveness, if you want a place where the trainers will actually dedicate to building upon whatever current skill level you are at as if you’re the only boxer they train, a place where the other boxers and members respect you like family(new or old) and seek to help you, this is your gym. The gym is a hole-in-the-wall, almost hidden, smaller-sized gym with EVERYTHING you need. The size brings comfort considering your trainer can always watch your progression as you work, and you’re given a lot of individual attention when it is wanted and needed. In my short time here I have seen boxers of all ages, skill levels, and sizes come in. I have even seen newcomers blossom into convincing and convictive fighters in short months. This gym breeds dedication. This is NOT the kind of place like many others where the gym is big and sparkly, but the trainers are just paid to distribute the little that they know with no actual experience of their own, and you yourself don’t actually matter amongst the many others. These trainers, this gym, the members, it’s as though you are walking into a real family environment of skilled and experienced professionals who WANT you to succeed. I have moved all over the U.S. and I travel very frequently, even out of country, and, after visiting gyms from most of the states, not even the nicest gyms compare to what you get at World Class Boxing Gym. Aside from the gym, I cannot end this review without speaking on the gym’s head coach and founder– Lou. This man has to be one of the most passionate, hardworking, dedicated, and devoted men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is the kind of man who, when he walks outside into the street, is bombarded by respectful handshakes, genuine laughs and greetings, and smiles of gratitude from every visible standpoint. Lou has built World Class to exceed far beyond a gym by building this spot into a place that the local kids, teens, and families can come to with safety, happiness, and assurance. Mark my words– this man has taken kids off the street and brought families together… all with boxing at the very center. This goes without saying that he is unarguably one of the greatest, most sincere, skilled, experienced, and passionate coaches you could have. He pushes his fighters to limits they didn’t know they could achieve, and this man’s boxing IQ is just insane. He is not the trainer you would ever grow out of, regardless of how far he takes your career. Trust the man! Boxing has died in so much of its culture, but coaches like LOU, although rare, have taken the sweet science as far as they could to birth true fighters and change lives in the process. Long story short, whether you’re coming in to learn how to box, continue boxing, lose some weight, let off steam, send your kids, build your already-great skill into the greatest, this is your new spot.
