Brooklin Inn

My boyfriend and I split a green salad, we each had the Haddock Fish Sandwich, and we split the brownie (it came with a small scoop of vanilla) for dessert. Everything was so fresh and tasty and the staff was super friendly. We would definitely come back here again in a heartbeat! Yum!

We have a home in Deer Isle and are familiar with the dining options in this part of the world — and regard the Brooklin Inn as, hands down, the place to go. We love it for its mix of excellent food, hospitable and intelligent service, informality and, whenever our mood is even moderately receptive, romantic air.
The food is regularly excellent and can at times be magnificent. I love scallops and have eaten them them in restaurants around the world, and rank the scallop dish at the Brooklin Inn as among the two or three best I’ve had. The deserts are always first rate — especially the flowerless chocolate cake.
The Brooklin Inn’s portion sizes go against the standard restaurant formula of giving customers «bargains» by overstuffing us; dinner at the Brooklin Inn leaves one both satisfied and with a lingering sense of what we’ve just been fed. How nice it is to be able to talk about our dinners on our way home and actually feel and remember what we ate as we do so.
Summers in Maine are hard to beat; the Brooklin Inn reflects what we love about being there.

Very pricey for merely decent food. On the plus side, and contrary to others’ views, we found the owner/​manager quite amiable. Wine list is extensive and the cocktails, though limited, were improved by the bartender’s willingness to shake up something on spec. On the minus, the fish, while it had an enviably seared crust, was also blatantly overlooked, and the rest of what was on the plate felt slapdash and jar-​derived. The setting is tranquil but the clientele… ahh the night we were there the place was suffocated with badly behaved Southerners, probably pied-​à-​terring off their yachts, shouting their orders and playing practical jokes on one another, much to the grim disapproval of several prim New England onlookers. We’d have preferred their quiet.

I echo what John C said. It seems we were there the same night or possibly the next. I’ll attribute our inconsistent experience with food, wine and service to personnel issues and I too hope they are fixed.

This restaurant seems to be experiencing serious personnel issues. Here’s hoping they figure everything out real soon now.

I enjoyed a very pleasant meal at the Brooklin Inn with my husband and his Great Aunt and Uncle last week.
We were seated in the back of the Dining Room with a gorgeous view of the harbor at sunset and immediately served a bottle of the house white wine of the evening — and expertly selected Chenin Blanc. We were off to a good start!
Between the four of us we ordered the Cucumber Soup (3), a Spinach Salad, the King Salmon (2), and the Sea Scallops (2). The cucumber soup and the Salmon were drastically under seasoned to the point of being bland. The Salmon, which was purportedly wild caught had the unmistakeable appearance of being farm raised, which disappointed me. The spinach salad was nice. The Scallops were handily the standout dish of the evening with beautiful, colorful plating and a good sear that gave them a natural depth of flavor to compensate for the fact that they, too, were under seasoned.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal (largely due to the company at the table and the ambiance) but the food did not measure up to the price tag and the service, frankly, was a mess. Not what one would expect at $ 40 per person, certainly.
I love the idea of this restaurant with its cozy atmosphere, beautiful views, and emphasis on local, organic foods. They are sending out beautiful plates of food that have not been properly treated to bring out their flavor into the hands a unprofessional wait staff, though, and that rather kills the magic. Some simple improvements would bring this place up to 5 stars!

We only got dessert but man oh man that was good dessert. We had flourless chocolate cake and crème brûlée. The only complaint was that the portions were a little small. The place seems to a local hang out so be prepared for it to be a bit busy!

When we walked in the Innkeeper (Restaurant Manager?) was verbally reprimanding one of his very young employees. We should have known right then to turn around and walk out. I wish I could say we enjoyed the dining experience, but the plates were scant, bland, and not worth it. I just couldn’t get over the pretentiousness of the Innkeeper/​Manager, which seemed to infect the whole restaurant. I’m sorry that I supported this place and the ill-​treatment of their staff– sorry guys!

True haven for those on search of local foodie cuisine. As a Manhattanite on vacation here in Maine, the pub of this inn is our oasis in the proverbial dessert of shitty provincial establishments. The owner Chip is hilarious and is also filling in as the bartender during this holiday weekend. The lobster salad is amazing fresh and perfectly accented with an orange crème sauce. Craft beer — smooth section. Check it out.

From the cozy bedrooms, to the delicious breakfast and inviting Irish Pub in the basement, the Brooklin Inn is a must see! We had a wonderful and relaxing two nights (well needed!) and will definitely repeat! Thank you Chip and Gail (owners) for a wonderful stay!

I’ve been coming to this pub for the past 10 years. This is a great, classic spot and by far is one of the best spots in the area. The Pizza is great and there are always a great selection of local beers to choose from.
Well worth a long drive just to get to.

There are very very few places I beat people over the head to try, this is one of them. Blueberry Hill and Deer Isle are reasons to visit on their own but a stay and dinner at the Brooklin Inn brought it alltogether like something out of a charming period novel.
Completely organic, the food served in the restaurant is all locally sourced and delivered fresh weekly. The owners have done wonders turning the kitchen into a 5 star dining establishment in addition to adding character to the low key Irish pub in the basement. Our corner bedroom upstairs had it’s own balcony entrance, the beds were super comfy, sheets smelled of sunshine, shower had the right amount of water pressure and the wifi is free. A little toddie, a little web surfing, exactly what you need after filling up on good food and better conversation.
