Mr Sushi is good for large portions for smaller prices than most places around CC and Washington Square. Unfortunately the food quality is lacking. The vegetable tempura dishes, katsu, and miso were pretty average to below average. Like many reviewers I felt the temperatures were inappropriate and many things felt like they came out of a box. But hey the portions were fairly well sized. This isn’t too off of par with similar restaurants. The chicken bento box was pretty good and a great value. I like the presentation and the different flavors and textures. So simple and yet delightful. They should advertise this prominently. The sushi itself, however, was dramatically less good than its neighborhood peers. Less quality, the temperature was either far too cold or warm, as others have noted. I found the waitstaff/service to be … serviceable. They attended to me when I made eye contact, were around most of the time when needed, filled my water, and thanked me. Nothing spectacular but not negligent.

Came here for a birthday lunch with my boyfriend and had a pretty terrible experience. The waitress came over to take our order and I asked her if the tempura udon bento box was a soup and she stated that it was so I said that I would like to order that. We then ordered salmon sashimi, eel nigiri, and 4 sushi rolls: a spicy tuna, spider roll, yellowtail roll, and a eel avocado roll. The tempura udon bento box comes out and it’s a bowl full of vegetables and noodles, but no tempura. I ask the waitress if this is the tempura udon and she states that I ordered the vegetable udon. I politely told her that I think I ordered the tempura udon because I specifically asked her if that one was a soup. She snaps at me and says that I ordered the vegetable one and takes it away. Now, I’ve worked a number of years as a server in the restaurant industry and I know that is no way to treat a customer. Even if the customer did order incorrectly, you apologize and bring them what they want. She came back with a bowl of just broth and noodles and a new bento box with the shrimp and vegetable tempura. What kind of tempura udon has no vegetables and is just broth with noodles? Despite this, I took a bite and instantly regretted it. The broth was incredibly salty — almost inedible. I pushed it away and decided to try my luck with some sushi. The sushi was just okay. The fish was warm — not room temperature, but warm. I think the sushi rice was still too hot when it was rolled and ended up warming everything inside. The warm fish left a very unappetizing taste in my mouth. Halfway through our meal, I realize that we’re missing the eel avocado roll. I asked the waitress if this was still coming and she said that she needs to check the paper because she doesn’t think we ordered this. She goes to check and I actually watched her read the paper and go to the kiosk to put the order in. She then comes over to our table and says that the order is still coming. I’ve seen this happen many times in restaurants because servers don’t want their tables to cancel the order and blames the kitchen. We were one of three other tables in the entire restaurant so I know there is no back up in the kitchen. I didn’t even want the roll at this point and just wanted to pay for the check and leave. Overall, both the food and service was terrible. There was a sign on the door saying that they would be closing the business on October 31st. I’m not sure if this means for forever or just on that day, but if it’s the former, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Mr. Sushi is a really cute small Japanese restaurant in the heart of Coolidge Corner. A very convenient place but the sushi is not great. The sushi is a little pricey and they don’t taste very good. Service sometimes is not good and the staff can be a little unfriendly. If you are looking for a sushi place to eat at a convenient place then this is the place. But don’t have high expectations or you will be disappointed.

The udon noodle soup at Mr. Sushi is one of the best I have ever had. I live all the way in downtown Boston and make the trip often to get my udon fix.

DONOTEATHERE! — SUSHIRESTURAUNTSMUSTBECLEAN — THISONEISNOT and doesn’t want to be! I have been going to Mr. Sushi with my family approx. once per month for 6 years. Decent(not great) food, prices, and local restaurant atmosphere and generally attentive staff. However, in 5 of my last 6 dinning experiences, my family and I have been attacked by gnats /fruit flies while eating. Every single time I complained to the staff — who suddenly lost their English language skills — and to the owner upon leaving. On 6÷26÷15 the same problem occurred with the same result, however this time the owner was«not accessible» — even though he was sitting behind the Sushi Bar. There are at least 7 Brookline based Sushi restaurants — all of which are pretty good. The one thing I believe people should demand when eating raw fish is cleanliness. I understand things happen but being aware of a problem like that over 6 months, and not correcting the problem is inexcusable. From this point on, I will chose one of the other 6. I believe you should as well.

Me and Mr. Sushi go way back, probably as far back as 6th grade, usually I’d be embarressed to say that but for this I’m excited. Mr. Sushi never disappoints the food and quality is always good, and they have one of the best chicken terriyaki bent boxes ever! I always eat everything from the box, and still have room to take some food from my dad’s sushi. Prices are good and so it quantity, service can be slow sometimes but it is 100% worth it.

Compared to the other sushi places in the area, I like Mr. Sushi better in terms of its atmosphere and aesthetics. There is more of a cozy feeling there, and the décor feels a little more authentic too(waitresses are wearing komono’s etc…). Their pricing is a little lower than the neighboring sushi places though. The trade-off with that though is that their sushi isn’t as good, not terrible, but it just seems a little drier. Not a bad place, but nothing stellar either.

I love this place. The ala carte sushi prices are very reasonable and it is REALLY good sushi. I come here frequently and the staff is always very pleasant and service is quick.

After being one of my favorite restaurants for several years, I have had it with the service. Today’s dinner with my family was okay but the waitress was absolutely terrible. From the beginning she gave all of us a bad vibe; I tried to ignore it but its hard not to ignore food being thrown at you, which is what we had to look forward to. The food was good, no complaints there. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Mr. Sushi anytime soon. We have decided to take out instead of eating there. Sorry David but until your wait staff improves their attitude and service, we will not be returning.

My friend and I stopped in here on a whim during a day out in Coolidge Corner. We went in with limited expectations because of the mixed reviews on here. The tempura batter was perfect, light without too much grease. I’m very picky about sushi, and mine was so fresh and tasty. Food came out really quickly and was well-presented. Only very small complaint was the service wasn’t excellent, but it wasn’t too bad. Our bill was so inexpensive and the food was awesome. Great spot.

While I adore zaftigs, CCC, Paris crêpe, Otto, & all other deliciousness in Coolidge corner, I just love that there is never a wait at mr sushi and I always get a quick, delicious meal. Never been disappointed! Last night I got miso soup,(out of this world) beef teriyaki appetizer with the best sauce, a cucumber avocado roll & Idaho roll. The staff is incredibly pleasant and the food is great!

If you’re looking for good quality sushi that is reasonably priced, Mr. Sushi is a solid option. Their sushi combinations have a good variety of fish(many places apparently believe a sushi combination is just lots of tuna and salmon) and the pieces are a good size. I have never seen issues with the quality of the sushi. If you are ordering take-out, service is efficient and fast. Often times, I was able to call while sitting in traffic on Route 9 in Newton to find the sushi ready by the time I parked outside. When dining in, service was always prompt and friendly. The wait staff are professional and the tables are clean. Though I’ve since moved out of the neighborhood, I tend to eat there when I’m around.

I’m surprised to see so many good reviews. Maybe I came on a bad night(a Friday night?!) I am not at all a sushi«snob» and never understood when people always emphasized how«that sushi is not fresh/high quality» since I always thought all sushi tasted the same to me(good). Well with this place, I knew immediately that it was not fresh. Everything tasted stale and that the food was likely frozen and defrosted. I got: Miso Soup(fine), Seaweed Salad(stale), Caterpillar Roll(stale ingredients, even the rice) Location was excellent, service was great, and decent prices. Shame that the sushi was awful.

Let me start by saying I think this Mr. Sushi is really 3.5 stars, but I wasn’t feeling 4 so I went with 3. The sushi was pretty good and the main dishes were pretty tasty as well. I had the tofu teriyaki and definitely recommend it for all the vegetarians out there!

It’s usually easy to find an online deal for this place(Amazon Local, Groupon, etc) so I always snag one when I see it. The interior/atmosphere is inviting and quiet and the staff is equally inviting. and quiet. I consistently go with the Nabeyaki Udon soup, which is very good — even though there are some ingredients in there that I push to the side. I just like soup and noodles in general so there’s not much else to say there. He always gets sushi or a bento box and is happy with it as well. The sushi is fresh and the bento box is nicely assorted with a variety of foods to enjoy. Portion size is definitely sufficient and prices are reasonable, especially if you go during lunch time.

I like Mr. Sushi. I don’t think I’m ever super wowed or craving this place but I always leave satisfied. Been here a couple times for both lunch and dinner. Have had some of the sushi combos and bento boxes. Wife always gets the Nabeyaki Udon and enjoys it. The sushi is fresh and comes with miso soup which is flavorful, not watery or overly salty like some places. Bento boxes come with your choice of meat, rice, California rolls, shumai, salad, bean sprouts and slices of oranges. A good amount of food for the price. Servers are pretty attentive and top off your water regularly. Haven’t had any issues there. The inside is clean, fairly spacious and has a couple sections, making for nice cozy pockets of seating. Overall a solid option if you’re looking for some Japanese/Korean cuisine in Coolidge.

Not too much rice and a good amount of filling. The yellowtail, spicy tekka, Idaho, Philly were all decent rolls. Good food, but where was the good service? From beginning to the end of my group’s dining experience, it was pretty bad. We were new costumers and I guess we looked like teens, so it seemed to mean we were given last preference. Why do I say that? I had to wave her down to get her attention each time we needed something. Another group sat next to us in our section after 10−15minutes. The hostess chatted them up like«long time no see» while the waitress got stuff for them. The waitress would always go to their table first when she came back to our section. At some point, she came, she helped them, and didn’t so much as to bat an eye towards us or the other customers so quickly that I didn’t have time to get her attention. And then there was the power outage. I had to look on my phone to see what was going on. No announcement as to how everything was going and what was going to happen. We were left in the dark wondering if food was going to be made. I waved her down one last time and she just nodded to me and the hostess brought the check. I didn’t want to tip her 15% but waitresses don’t get paid that much anyways.

Overall, decent place! I knew it wasn’t going to be fancy or really expensive so I went out with one of my best friends for a late dinner. Service was good. The woman was there when we needed her and at the right time. We got edamame to begin with and it was alright. Not too salty! We ended up getting a mix of sushi, Idaho Maki, Sunset California roll, Teriyaki Salmon maki, Boston Maki and a spicy Salmon roll. All very good! Very delectable! My favorite was the Idaho Maki. We also got a glass of wine each, which we could tell, was probably cheap wine, but it went well with the dinner. When the bill came, I used one of my City Dining discount cards, and I could instantly tell our waitress was pissed. Sorry, lady! I’d probably go there again though if I was in the area. It’s decently priced and a quiet atmosphere!

Ive only been here a few times. The first time was when I got my ex boy friend into sushi. He loved fugakyu and wanted to try out more sushi joints since he was never a big fan of eating raw things. The last time I went here, nigri was just decent. It wasn’t the best i’ve had, it was barely good. «I don’t remember why but you suck!»
