Dim sum is available on the weekends. You order off the menu and they will cook to order. I would recommend everything, but the shrimp stuffed noodles. That was not good. Otherwise, everything was delicious. Bathroom is clean and the dining room is nicely decorated. Not tacky at all. It is not located too far from the Coolidge corner t stop. Definitely recommend if you want to linger on a Saturday or Sunday.

This is our go-to place for dim sum items or general tso’s chicken if we want to not deal with cooking. It’s solid for the area and hasn’t made me regret my choice(looking at you Anna’s and rod dee). I still want to do dim sum on the weekend and I’ll update from that. We’ve had friendly employees and good customer service on our visits.

Came here for the first time on a Saturday. There was no wait time which was nice considering it was Saturday lunch time. Ordered a couple of dishes with quality that was nothing special for dim sum. Come if you’re looking for a quick spot to eat.

What a find! Every dish I have had here has been a home run and it is my favorite place to go now. It is really great for sharing dishes, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the Shanghai Lomaine and the soup dumplings. So amazing!!!

Meh… It says dim sum in their description but it’s not the typical dim sum like in Chinatown in which I expected. They have a small menu of dim sum items. It’s more of a shanghai style food so I was just disappointed especially since I called before I came and asked if they had dim sum food. The service is nice but it’s a bit awkward since it’s quiet in the restaurant.

This place is absolutely atrocious — WORST Chinese food I’ve had in Boston. We ordered the chicken lo mein, chow foon(with chicken), fish fillet with pickled cabbage, scallion pancake and wonton schezuan style. Only the chicken lo mein and scallion pancakes were edible — the rest of the food was yuck. The fish smelled pretty bad(felt like it was raw batter) and our wontons ended up being mixed up — we think we got pork and leek dumplings instead(the dumpling had a rubbery texture to it). The chow foon with chicken looked it was heated from a frozen meal(the bean sprouts in this were all gummy and gluey). Not a meal any of us would like to remember — if you are really keen on Chinese food — spare yourself the trouble and visit Sichuan Gourmet a couple of blocks down instead.

This probably one of the best places I have had Chinese food TAKEOUT from. The staff was friendly. I ordered Sprite but they called me to see what other soda I wanted. The food was delivered within the ETA. I ordered chicken Lo neon, chicken fingers and general gau’s chicken. Only downside was that there not many vegetables in the lo mein. General gau’s chicken was sweet, not as spicy as I’d like. I will definitely keep this place in mind when I grave Chinese food in a couple months.

When Chinese food is good, it’s GOOD, and when it’s bad, it’s BAD. Shanghai Jade is really good. What I like about Shanghai Jade: 1. The food isn’t slimy and it doesn’t leave you feeling terrible like most Chinese restaurant food does. The food here is fresh and simple. Even heavy dishes like Kung Pao Beef are clean and flavorful and somewhat light in texture. 2. The interior is nice. Many Chinese restaurants are sketchy inside and you never see anyone eating in them. This place is well lit, clean, modern, and cozy. 3. The food is always hot, even pick up. Granted I live on the same block as the restaurant. 4. The hostess is so nice and loves greeting and interacting with customers. Q: WHYAM I WRITINGTHISREVIEWEVENTHOUGH I NEVERWRITE UnilocalREVIEWS? A: Because I want to see more people eating here. It is a great neighborhood spot walking distance from Coolidge Corner. Suggestion to overs: work on your«curb appeal». I think a new sign would help. Maybe the hanging kind that extends over the sidewalk so you can read it as you walk up and down the street. Those work well!

Clean and simplistic. Perfect solo spot. I sat and read all along enjoying my wine and shrimp veg dish. Great wait staff. I did not feel rushed, like other local spots. Instead I ate at my own pace and enjoyed the classical music. Thank you for a perfect Saturday night dinner.

What an excellent dining experience. Pleasant, modern ambiance. Elegantly-presented, delicious food(we had the seaweed salad, fried pork buns, and sesame seed balls with red bean paste). Friendly and attentive service. You bet your bottom dollar we’ll be back!

My only experience with them is via takeout. I ordered a noodle dish and when I got home, I found out that the noodles were placed together with the soup. Of course that made the noddles pretty soggy and not that tasty to eat. The flavor was alright. I’ll try it again at some point.

My friend and I stumbled into this place after wandering around Coolidge Corner looking for a restaurant that wasn’t packed to the gills with nowhere to sit, and somewhere that wouldn’t be 90 degrees of unventillated air inside. I was so happy that we landed at Shanghai Jade because it was a lovely treat! We ordered: wonton soup, scallion pancakes, steamed shrimp dumplings, pan-fried ravioli, beef and beans with pan fried noodles, pork-fried rice, and general gao’s chicken. Portion sizes were satisfying to share and it was not overpriced. The décor was pleasant, with classical music playing, and very friendly, kind waitstaff. The food was awesome. The wonton soup broth was light and the wontons were plump. The scallion pancakes were crispy without being overcooked. Both kinds of dumplings were delicious. The general gao’s chicken was good but just a bit too spicy for my weak palate. The fried rice was decent, nothing too special. My favorite was the pan-fried noodles as the string beans were perfectly cooked and the sauce the beef was cooked in was flavorful. I would definitely come here again.

Came here for dim sum and were very pleased with our meal. The restaurant was very clean and staff was nice and attentive. Restrooms were also well kept. Definitely will be back.

We just got back from dinner here. It was an all around okay experience, not super awesome, but not bad either. The prices are reasonable and the service is okay. We did think the dim sum was pretty mediocre though. Also the veal chops were pretty rubbery, although the sauce was really good. I don’t think we’ll be back for dinner again, but there lunch menu seemed really reasonably priced for this type of food.

I just returned for dinner, which was excellent. Black pepper steak was prepared just like I remember from growing up in Toronto, and the Shanghai lo mein was savory and delicious. This is the real deal, folks!

Food was ok for Chinese but way overpriced and had small portions. We had the cabbage vegetable dish, tasty but small. We also had the fried tofu, but it was not as good as most places. They lack vegetarian dishes on the menu.

I have been to this restaurant three times already and I like this restaurant a lot. The restaurant has a decent décor and I could tell their goal is to make fine Chinese cuisine. The waiter and waitress are very nice and friendly. The appetizers here are fine Shanghainese style and they taste so good and delicious! You must try the egg yolk buns(I don’t think it’s on the menu but the waiter recommends that to me). I heard they did not do so well in February due to the unprecedented snow storms that boston had, so I decided to eat there more often lately. The waiter told me that they are going to do weekend dim sum from late March, so I finally don’t have to go to Chinatown for the dim sum and can have it right here in Brookline! The price of this restaurant is the same as other Chinese restaurant. But considering the nice décor the good service and the delicious food, I would give this restaurant full five stars! Brookline really needs a Chinese restaurant like that!

This restaurant is right downstairs from my office, so I was very excited to see it open. I was even more excited when I went there for the first time. The food is excellent. This is not your typical westernized Chinese restaurant. This is more like food you’d get in Chinatown. There’s a good number of soups and entrees, plus lots of dumplings, wontons, buns, pancakes and noodles. The food is delicious. Very fresh and well seasoned. My favorites include the sunshine shrimp cakes, pork buns, the steamed pork dumplings, and strange flavored chicken.(My wife describes the steamed pork dumplings as «inside out wonton soup». The dumplings come in a basket. Each dumpling has inside it a ball of tasty pork floating in delicious broth. You have to be careful eating it, but it’s worth the effort.) One of the best parts about Shanghai Jade is that they have great desserts. Yes, a Chinese restaurant with great desserts! The Phoenix Eye is particularly special. It is a round soft ball of buttery sweet dough. When you bite into it, you find that it is filled with a creamy yellow/orange liquid that looks a lot like raw egg yolk. It is beautiful, strange, and delicious. Apparently Shanghai Jade will be offering Dim Sum on weekend mornings soon. I can’t wait. It will be great to have Dim Sum in Coolidge Corner. In the mean time, I’m enjoying my frequent lunches there.

I was tempted to give this place four stars just to counterbalance the slew of negatives, but IMO it’s a solid three. [And sorry folks, but Zenna was boring Yankee Asian food.] Shanghai Jade reminds me of some of the places I eat in Chinatown in Honolulu or SF, which in general are much more like China than those in Boston. The dumplings we had last night were tasty, NOT boring. OK maybe a little greasy, but again, this is pretty real Chinese dim sum. Brookline needs more places like this — less suburban & more real. I’ll be back for sure.

Came here for lunch one day. Started off with some spicy dumplings, some five spiced beef, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and shumai. The shumai was the equivalence of those that you can pop in the microwave. Everything was just mediocre. May or may not come back for another meal.
