The Eye Store

John, the owner of the newly renovated The Eye Store, possesses superlative customer service and optical expertise skills. I also want to tout the superior product I received from him; a perfect piece of eye wear at a great price. He had my glasses ready less than 48 hours after receiving my prescription and he fitted them perfectly to my face, (without the need for follow up fittings as has been the case with previous optical businesses). The Eye Store and its proprietor are a gem, and I encourage anyone considering or discontented with the optical store chains to give this independent store a shot. You will not be disappointed!

They deserve all 5 stars. Awesome service from two great guys that have done this for over 60 years. Took the time to explain my newfound vision problems to me, and applied zero pressure to buy glasses. In and out in 20 minutes with a vision exam that only cost $ 35.

Professional. Experienced. Honest. Helpful. Good selection of frames and very fair prices.
Pleasant. Most refreshing and will be returning as needed with my family.

Around 5PM today I walked in because my frames were broken. They were promptly fixed while I waited for $ 1.00! I love independent businesses!

UNBELIEVABLE! I went to a high cost opthamologist and paid umteen dollars for a rude exam and incorrect prescription. I took a chance and went to the eye store and he spent more time figuring out what was needed than I ever had from any eye doctor. I am a musician and it is imperative for me to see at varied distances. I am so thrilled to have found such competent people– I cannot recommend these guys highly enough.
If you need an exam or glasses, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. Yay for proficiency! Thanks gentlemen.

The doctor is professional and very friendly. Price for eye exam is cheapest! And the service is super efficient; you can just walk in and you will have your prescription in hand 10 mins later. I definitely will go back to do my next eye exam.

I came here after reading the great reviews. There are two owners and they are both nice, friendly, and professional. I got a great deal on glasses after paying waaaaaay too much for my previous pair. Not only that, but they let me take forever to find the frames I liked, then let me take forever in getting them adjusted perfectly. I’m so grateful to have found them. I will definitely return.

This place is fast, efficient and they’re cheap for eye exams! They’re the cheapest I could find in this area that could meet with me the same day. Ordering contacts is fast too. It arrives literally the next morning! They’re a two older aged men team who work together here. One’s an optometrist and the other is his secretary who works the front and takes care of the customer data. Great team & great service. Two thumbs up! :)

Helpful, affordable, kind, attentive, real… the list of positive adjectives that could be prescribed to this place are endless!
I stopped in one day with the intent of getting a new pair of frames and they immediately sat me down and gave me a free exam. As I was picking out my new frames, we had lovely conversations about the artist Robert Rauschenberg and the Beatles, of which all of us were huge fans! :)
Also, very easy to get to on the T– about a block west of Saint Mary’s Street on the C line!
Long story short, I love this place. I plan on recommending them to everyone.

I have to agree with everyone else’s reviews, these guys are phenomenal. I went in for an unscheduled eye exam for contacts, it was finished in less than ten minutes, and I was given all the information I needed incredibly quickly. My contacts were ready the next day and so far they have been working wonderfully!
Most importantly, their service. I was having an awful day and the two gentlemen there had me in stitches the entire time. They really turned my day around with their positivity, humor, and incredibly informative and quick service.
HIGHLY recommended.

Went here because of all the great reviews and was certainly not disappointed. These guys know what they’re doing and at a great price! Quickest eye exam ever and helped me find the best price for contacts. Definitely coming back when my prescription expires next year!

Finally a place that’s not like Lenscrafters or Pearl Vision.

I spent half an hour looking at some Groupon deals but all the reviews were mediocre at best. I find myself returning to The Eye Store. :)

Gary, the Optician, is a super nice guy. The price is cheap. I would definitely recommend it.

My eye prescription had just expired and I needed new contact lenses. So I looked around the Brookline area for reasonably priced eye exams. I decided to check out The Eye Store because of all the good reviews.
It is so convenient how they let you do walk-​in appointments or schedule online or on the phone. I booked an appointment and the contact lenses exam took about 15 minutes.
The optometrist and optician who work and manage the store were so friendly, helpful, and genuine. I had a great time chatting with them and they made me feel very comfortable.
The optometrist was very thorough in asking about my lenses preferences and was very knowledgeable in his explanations. He gave me two sample contact lenses for me to try out. He advised me to try them out for comfort before buying a whole pack of contacts. He didn’t pressure me to buy contacts from his store. He said that if I liked the contact brand, I could buy them wherever I preferred: online, another store, or from The Eye Store. I paid $ 80 for the contact lenses exam (without insurance).
Before I left, I checked out their large selection of frames, which were all unique and stylish. I asked the optician what the average price of standard prescription glasses was and he told me the average cost was $ 200ish (frames + prescription lenses). I know where I’m buying my next pair of glasses: D.

My first inclination was always to go to the big flashy heavily advertised eyewear stores until two years ago a friend steered me to the Eye Store. They have great prices. a large selection of frames and a friendly and professional staff is l the reason why I will go back.

My visit here was beyond perfection. I called ahead and they were so friendly in answering my questions and letting me know I could come by with an appointment!
I came in early one day and was in and out super quick. They take appointments starting at 9:30 and I was out by 9:45! They didn’t try to oversell me and were perfectly happy to give me exactly what I was looking for and send me on my way. The guys were super friendly too.
Their prices are so reasonable!!! No Frills and I loved the personal, honest service compared to places like Lenscrafters and Cohens. I will definitely be returning in the future.
Worth a trip from Cambridge or Boston as well.

I called ahead before I got there to get some info, they were very friendly on the phone and I knew this was the place for me. I had not had a vision test in 7 years. The gentleman that did the eye exam was very good at what he did. It took less than 10 mins and I was able to see like I was 12 years old again (can’t see far away well). The gentleman that makes the frames had my order rdy the next day around the same time. On both of my visits I stayed and chatted for 15 – 20 mins about life in general. Over all it was a great experience. I am a early 20s student and on a budget. The eye exam was only 35 $; I don’t have insurance. I found them on a Unilocal discussion board. I was so pleased with their service I considering buying 2^nd pair of glasses from them. When I put the glasses on for the first time, I felt like I was in a different world, I never knew my vision (nearsightedness) was that bad. The lenses are the same as what I saw during the exam.

I was very pleased by the friendly, laid-​back, helpful service. There was a good selection of frames — a fair amount of designer frames along with solid cheapos. I found 4 – 5 frames I LOVED and narrowed it down to, alas, 1. They were designer frames and they cost $ 150, which is definitely competitive with the bigger eye glass stores. The eye exam was free and it’s always good to help a locally-​owned business — you will usually get better prices and better service.

Last year:
I was in a pickle because my favorite pair of Armani frames had snapped in half on the arm. Now, it takes quite a bit of time to shop for new frames. So I walked in, big as you please, and asked them if they could fix them. You could tell they were quietly thinking…“is she nuts?”. But I was like, «please, just buy me some time»
LensCrafters: No, we can’t do that. But we can show you some lovely new frames.
The Eye Store: Yup. We can fix them. No problem. They won’t hold forever, but they will get you by until you decide what to do. They fixed them with a pin and some kind of super glue.
Me: My RX in my sunglasses is current, can you copy the RX into new frames?
LensCrafters: No, we don’t do that.
The Eye Store: No problem!
They are so attentive and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. This is why sometimes is it better to shop the local guy rather than go with the franchise.
One less than five stars merely for informational purposes, as I think their frame selection might not be edgy enough for some folks. But they have happily place perfect lenses in two different frames that I bought elsewhere.
I need new professional eyewear and they are actually going to come to my office to see how I work to measure, etc. What a relief, since to buy professional loupes costs beaucoup bucks, and if they aren’t right you pay a restocking fee. I will keep you guys updated.
