I was looking for a barbershop which would do straight razor shaves. Since I had not had a haircut in a while I thought, why not? I found this place through Unilocal and given the positive reviews decided to give it a try. There was some waiting time but I didn’t think much of it since I had not made the appointment and I was not in an immediate hurry. After 1 hour of wait finally I was called in. I wanted to get a high and tight but although I explained with great detail and even showed him a picture from their own gallery on this site, the barber did just want he wanted. He took pauses in between almost every cut so the haircut actually lasted approximately 2 extra hours. He was just chatting with everyone else. When the time for the shave came I thought … This is what I waited for! The barber grabbed a plastic blue disposable shick razor and shaved me … I thought, I could have done that at home myself. After 3 hours and change even some of the other barber were wondering why he was taking so long and one of them which I can only assume was the manager or owner offered me a biz card which I thought it was for a discount for the hassle, but instead it was so I would make an appointment the next time… After almost 4 hours and $ 35 I had a haircut I didn’t like and a shave that was simply not what I came there to begin with…

I’m pretty picky when it comes to my hair, but at the same time I love going into a barber shop and telling them to «work their art». This is sort of how I measure how good a barber is or not. I’ve grown up getting haircuts from my mom and I have had the hardest time trying to find a great barber for the past 4 or 5 years since I’ve moved to the Twin Cities. Let me tell you right now, The Chiseler is THEBEST barber shop in town, and believe me, I’ve tried many, many, many barber shops and big chain stores around the Twin Cities. I’ve never gotten a cut from John(the owner and master barber, who is beyond an expert at his craft), but I get my cuts from Bonnie who is equally skilled. She really made me feel at home, in fact, everyone there made me feel comfortable! We literally talked like we knew each other for years and this was not that«Oh I’m getting a haircut, let’s make small talk» stuff, which is really nice. She took her time with my hair and made sure everything was what I wanted, but she also did her«art» like I had asked her to. My haircut turned out perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Seriously, If you’re sick of going to large chain haircut stores and feeling like you’re being rushed out of there, go to the Chiseler.

I have been going to John at the Chiseler for over 12 years and no matter what I do, I can not find another John. I travel quite a bit and no matter where I go, this is still the best barber. The fades are amazing and the talent at this place is like no other…
