So my fiancé and I come here to eat… Never got served because there were other people that that ordered after us and«had kids» in sure the lack of melanin in their skin also had something to do with this… We walked out

This review is for the bar service, as we did not eat a meal… Wonderful and much attention given to us when we sat down Friday night for glasses of wine. The wine was very good, as well as great prices! I would’ve liked to see more of a selection of wine because the 2 red wines we wanted on the menu were not available. The bartender with a French accent was super nice and so tentative to us. We will return for a nice dinner. Atmosphere is cozy and has a French aura. Lots of candles and eclectic finds on the walls. They have HH specials which enticed us for a HH return.

Stopped by with my husband, had a chance to meet the chef who was super nice and also really excited about the food, was refreshing to see a staff that is excited about what they do! Décor is lovely & rustic with antique farm tools hanging on the walls. Their cocktails are creative and delicious!!! The grilled octopus was amazing, and my Salmon with grilled fennel was cooked perfectly. My husband got the grilled rack of lamb with Honey mustard Rosemary crust YUM! Definitely try this place out!

I was a fan of Chez Lola’s. Why the name change I’m not sure? We went for a late lunch to give it a try. The menu wasn’t any more or less interesting. We sat in the back yard which I love. But it took forever for a waitress to come and give us water and when she did she poured it right in my lap. I yelled and jumped back and instead of apologizing she just said, whoops. Then brought us no additional menus. She left one menu for a table of three. When I asked for me she brought ONE more. We ordered and finally got our food and it was mostly cold. We all got burgers and there was legit about 6 cold soggy french fries to each plate. So we ordered an extra order of fries, as did the table next to us. At least they didn’t charge us for the extra fries. Although they did over charge my card. $ 133 instead of $ 13. Once we tracked the server down in the middle of her meal to ask for our bill that is. Before that when I tried to find her to ask for something she was int he hallway on the phone. And then on our way out we passed the kitchen in time to hear the chef say«What is the seafood rice?» I just would not recommend you spend your money somewhere that is going to be so hit or miss. The food isn’t worth it either…

I’ve been going to Lola, the previous version of Anchor & Plow, for 10 years, and loved it, brunch, lunch, and dinner. With trepidation I tried Anchor & Plow even though my sister went and the once large order of blueberry pancakes had turned into two small ones, and her friend had to send back her uncooked entrée. We tried again yesterday and it was pretty awful. The cappuccino was excellent as was the fried egg. Everything else: service, the French Toast and the décor, worse than before. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable, they had removed the TV where neighbours would sometimes watch sports on the weekends, the little bar up against the window in the front was gone, too. And the staff seems to have changed as well.(our server forgot to return our change, which we had to request, and seemed unresponsive when we mentioned the issue with the chairs) I knew that we were off to a bad start when we requested the pancakes and they had«run out» — at NOON on a Saturday.(the place was almost empty, by the way). So we asked for French Toast, which formerly at Lola had been thick, delicious, and barely needed Maple syrup. It came with fresh chunks of sliced fruits. What we got yesterday: dry, partially charred slices of what seemed like white bread you would get at a supermarket in the 1980s, which we drowned in syrup, with tiny pieces of fruit in some kind of liquid that appeared to come out of a jar. Lola was a fantastic restaurant and I am so sad that one of my favorite places in my neighborhood is gone. I hope that they can find a way to fix this mess.

Lola in a different dress. I love this neighborhood. I support local business and I have a vested interest in the success of all ventures. But. I don’t do bad food. Anchor and Plow. I had high hopes. I did. You fell short. Lunch was just terrible. The salmon burger was salty and undercooked. The ‘in season’ plum and fig salad was underdressed and sad. The food took too long and was not good. I will be back– to give it another go. Please do better!

Food excellent, drinks inventive and refreshing, prices that won’t break the bank with dim lighting to set the mood. The intoxicating aroma from the open kitchen is extraordinary. The staff attentive, helpful and friendly especially Miriam psssst she’s my favorite ;0)
