Fuck this cart. For the record — this review does not take into account the quality of food, which is fine. I’ve been living off the Dekalb L stop for a couple years, and the fact that this is the only halal cart in my neighborhood is a constant source of frustration. I love halal food — I eat it constantly, and have gotten halal from probably 20 different carts throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan in my life — from the Upper East Side to Ditmas Park. This is the only halal cart that I’ve ever been to that charges $ 6 instead of $ 5 for chicken over rice. Now, OK — it’s just one dollar. It’s a 20% price hike — but it’s just one dollar. So although I have always avoided this place for this reason, today I had a craving and decided to go for it. Maybe I had been too harsh with the place. Maybe no one ever told them that every other business selling the same product as theirs was doing so at a cheaper price. Fine. I asked for chicken and rice«with a little extra rice» — this is the same way I routinely order halal at every cart I visit in the city, and every time, I am charged $ 5. This time, the guy says«OK», makes me my food, and hands it to me, but when I hand over $ 6, he tells me «It’s a dollar extra, I gave you extra rice.» I don’t care how petty and stupid it is, again, ONE dollar… but this kind of thing outrages me. I can’t get over it. I dislike the feeling of being taken advantage of, no matter how much the cost. Fuck this cart. Only cart in the city I will never, ever take my business to again. If they could charge me $ 5 like everyone else for my dinner, I would eat there twice a week, guaranteed. Instead they charge me $ 7, and are easily my most hated establishment in the neighborhood.
