Pasta came out hard and was getting stuck to my teeth and i had to send it back to the kitchen to get it cooked again

Like another Unilocaler, I had really high hopes for this place. I am a huge fan of Italian food so I was super ecstatic to find out there was an Italian restaurant walking distance from my home. Sadly, this place didn’t do any justice. The place itself is cute and cozy. Service was good as well. Food on the other hand not so great. I tried their fried calamari, seared tuna, and rigatoni w/bolognese sauce along with a few glasses of wine. On the bright side the prices are fair and portions are decent.

This place is the cutest and definitely hidden on 13th Ave. It is so small on the outside but is long on the inside so it goes far back allowing a lot of tables to be inside. Chef Andre is the sweetest man and is from Italy and is the chef himself. It makes it feel so homey in there. The food was delicious and I would definitely be going back there soon. We had antipasto to start and eggplant rigatoni. Delicious.

A+++ All these authentic Sicilian dishes will remind you just how Grandma used to do it. Right down to the homemade Caponata.

I was a big fan of this place. coming on a regular basis… until one day I ordered pasta with shrimp and the first shrimp I ate tasted HORRIBLE. like it came right out of the ocean and landed in my dish. I called the waiter over and very nicely explained that I was afraid to eat the rest of the shrimp because it was bad… the waiter basically said«oh ok sorry»… NO acknowledgment from the chef who normally walks around talking to the customers. we get the bill and not even $ 1 was taken off for my meal. this situation really turned me off! aside from this horrible customer service. the food is usually very good & I was telling a lot of people to come try it. but I don’t bother anymore.

Absolutely GREAT food! Service is top notch too. Love the grilled octopus here and the penne vodka with chicken is my favorite thing to order here. The owner himself(Andrea) cooks in the back himself, and he’s a very kind man. Decorations are cozy and the bathroom is very clean. Always a good spot!

Delicious food and even better service. We came looking for catering but ended up having lunch here. Our penne Alla vodka & mozzarella fresca was amazing. The owner, Andrea & the manager Emilio was welcoming and generous, the service was excellent. I know this is one restaurant I will be coming over & over.

Great old world Italian Restaurant. The ambiance reminds you of Italy but more so the food is excellent! The service wonderful. Our waiter was cheerful and always attentive to refill our glasses, remove dinner ware and bring fresh ones. The penne all vodka(aldente) was fabulous. You won’t go wrong here. The great thing is you get Big City(NYC) food at a reasonable price right in your own back yard. Thank you Chef Andrea!

I had high hopes for this place because of the reviews and the awesome décor outside. Being a lover and frequent visitor of Italy I gave it a shot. Went with my brother and I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. After much anticipation it was a depressing soggy wet almost soup like mess. How can you screw up a carbonara??? Its not supposed to be soupy or liquidy. Chances are it’s because the cooks are more Como estas than come Stai. Not cheap too. Stay away from this place unless being disappointed and paying cash for it is your thing.

Do you want some old school italian food? This is the spot to go to when in dyker heights. It tastes just like the food my grandma used to cook back in the day and it has that old school vibe too. From the table cloths, the huge glasses of wine, the italian accent, and the food. It really reminds me of a meal that I would have had 10 years ago at my grandmas house. I really like this place and have been there 4 times and every time I have enjoyed it. The portions are quite big and there is a ton of choices on the menu. By the way this place passed the ultimate test. I took my mother there for Mother’s Day and she loved it. My mom is insanely picky when it comes to eating out for italian food. She compares everything to her cooking and my grandmas cooking. She gave this place the thumbs up and that is not an easy task!

This place must have changed ownership since these other reviews were written. Eight of us(four adults, four kids) went here after seeing the Dyker lights this week. We should have known better when the place was absolutely empty(it was 7:30 on a Wednesday night). Or when our feet stuck to the floor because it was so dirty. Or when we saw the bottles of olive oil on the table with moldy detritus inside(basil?). Those who dared to try it(not I!) said that it was rancid.(Now that I am writing this, I can’t believe that we didn’t leave!) The bread was good — it was the only thing that was good. The meal arrived, and my husband took one bite of the sausage in his pasta dish, gagged, and sent the whole thing back. He declined the server’s offer for a replacement. Neither the server nor anyone else bothered to ask what the problem was. I ordered the seafood risotto and it was not even close to being risotto — more like paella, or Rice-A-Roni. Just rice with some tomato sauce(the menu described it as a «delicate pink sauce») and seafood. The scallops were bad. The shrimps and calamari were overcooked and rubbery. My daughter had the pesto gnocchi, which was a grossly sweet and floury mess. I can’t remember what kinds of pasta our friends had, but one of them was actually sick from it. I ordered a red wine and it came in some weird miniature glass(a cordial glass, I think). They did give me a free glass when I asked if I get could a second glass in an actual red wine glass. It sounds like this used to be a great place. Now it’s terrible. Do not come here.

A wonderful gem of a restaurant. Made me feel as if I were in my mother’s own kitchen again. Great service, good food, prices just right. Glad that this restaurant is in my neighborhood, definitely I will be visiting there again with my family.

What can I say? Simply the best Italian food you can ask for. Don’t bother with the menu, instead have the chef serve you. you won’t be disappointed! From the Sicilian Eggplant, to the Artichoke with gorgonzola, to any of his pasta dishes you’ll wonder why you ever ventured into Manhattan for Italian food. They may not have everything on the menu when you dine, but you should look at that as a sign of a good restaurant. If it’s fresh and in season it’ll be on the menu. My family and I eat here regularly, and we are always impressed. Go here. Try it. You’ll be back!
