I tried Chickpea and Olive at the Grub Street Food Fair last weekend. Let me tell you – It’s like I died and went to heaven. BBQ jackfruit, Carolina slaw, B&B pickles, fried shallots and creamy horseradish on a potato bun. Wow. Everything worked seamlessly together. I had never tried jackfruit before, so I was a bit confused on how it would taste slathered in barbecue sauce. It was magnificent! The tanginess of the sauce went great with the slaw. As soon as I sat down to eat it, someone asked me where they could get one. Honestly, if I could eat this every day, I would!

I have to say I don’t get the hype. I got the beet burger after reading reviews saying it tasted nothing like beets and that it had a meat-like char and texture to it. No. Not at all. That was a mushy pile of beets in between two slices of now beet-soaked bread. I have tried many, many veggie burgers over the years and that might be in the bottom 5.

This guys make the best burguer I’ve ever had, with or without meat! Every time I go to Smorgasburg, even with all the amazing food on offer at the market, I choose their food, so that should tell you how good they are!

The beet burgers at this pop-up diner in Dumbo and at Smorgasburg are exceptional. I hate beets but whatever that have added to make them a burger is delicious. The Calexico was so good I could have eaten two. Highly recommended. The BBQ jackfruit tastes like real BBQ… something I never thought I’d be able to eat again since giving up meat. A pop-up so keep an eye on the website to find out where they are. In the summer, they appear to consistently appear on Wed — Fri afternoons under the arch in Dumbo and at Smorgasburg on the weekends.

How is it that Chickpea and Olive don’t have a brick and mortar restaurant yet!!! I would seriously be there everyday for a pulled Carolina BBQ jackfruit burger. It is to die for. The service is always wonderful and their coconut black tea is the best!!! Seriously guys… please open a permanent location. I would give you all my money.

Delicious, delicious, delicious. We went to the stand at Lunchtime Under the Archway(in DUMBO). The quality is mind-blowing. I don’t usually go for purely vegan food(preferring vegetarian myself), but this was something else. The beet patty is just right, the buns are soft & flavorful, and the flavors are amazing. We had the Calexico and Mushroom burgers and they were both fantastic. The place is pretty expensive at ~$ 30 for two fairly small burgers, but the food is glorious. Brownie points for accepting credit cards through Square!

Pure genius. I won’t beet around the bush, if all vegan food tasted like this, I’d dive in full stop. Of all the choices at Smorgasburg, I’m super happy I chose the Calexico burger. Messy, spicy goodness. If C&O had a store front, I’d make beety burgers a habit.

I really can’t say enough good things about Chickpea and Olive. Everything on their menu is amazing– oh and they are vegan! Their burgers are incredible. I also just tried their BBQ jackfruit sandwich that literally is better than pulled pork. Amazing. Btw — don’t let the vegan thing scare you off, meat eaters. All of their food is delicious, flavorful, and tastes better than the real thing — which if you have had other types of vegan food, you know is not an easy thing to accomplish(so much vegan food tastes like cardboard, but not so with the folks at Chickpea and Olive). They are usually at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn Bridge Park and now they are in DUMBO during lunch. Love them!

I’ve had their Calexico Burger before and it was amazing, but today I got something different that completely blew my mind– the BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich! I haven’t had BBQ in years and this sandwich did not disappoint! I ate the whole thing in a few bites– not because it was too small, but because it was SO good! I highly recommend Chickpea & Olive to vegans and meat eaters alike! There’s something for everyone! YUM!

So I actually have gone here twice. Both times was at the archway in Dumbo, however. Not in Williamsburg. This is where they are during the week. I’m not a vegan. Honestly I don’t normally like vegetarian food. However the beet Burger here was amazing. Great flavor, sauce, even the vege cheese was fantastic. Only flaw is the portion size for the price. 12 bucks for the Burger, wish it was a little bigger. Overall a great place. Must try even if you are not a vegetarian.

Got the bacon cheddar ranch. Did not taste any cheddar. Regardless was sooooooo delish. But such ridiculously small portion for price. With that being said, i was full from that small portion. A good place to try just to try!

Best vegan burger I’ve ever had. Calexico — beet/brown rice/mushroom lentil patty w/avocado, pickled jalapenos, pickled red onions, cheddar daiya cheese, chipotle aioli, lettuce and tomatoes over brioche. I happened to stop by Smorgasburg after a run and was drawn to this since I have been on a beet kick lately. Was trying to look up Unilocal reviews but couldn’t find any under Phatty Beet Burger(not realizing this place was actually called Chickpea & Olive). Decided to take a «chance» on this place and was so impressed that I went home, I said it had to be known how good this place was. Of course, I eventually find out the real name of the place and there have been plenty of props given by others. Nevertheless, add mine to the pile. It’s really that good. Worth the $ 12 because I was blown away. I’ll be going back for it next Sunday. I don’t normally write reviews but there you have it.

Hands down the best vegan sandwich I’ve EVER had. Before coming to smorgasburg, I had looked up all the vegan vendors that we’re going to be there and chickpea and olive seemed the most appetizing and popular. I saw a lot of good things about it on Unilocal and Instagram but I was still a little skeptical about a beet burger tasting amazing. I shouldn’t have doubted anything because this beet slider was the most delicious thing I’ve tasted in a really long time. I ordered a bacon ranch cheddar beet slider with avocado on gluten free bread. The bread was perfectly toasted, the ranch creamy and rich, the eggplant bacon melts-in-your-mouth and the beets just rounded everything out. I devoured it in minutes and when I was so blown away by the flavored and textures that I couldn’t even focus on my friends talking. It was really really delicious and I’m sure even non vegans would love it! Also, the service was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. They made the food sound even more exciting! I was really impressed by my entire experience, definitely going to come back!

I finally got to try something from Chickpea and Olive at Smörgåsbord. I got the BLT which had the best eggplant bacon I’ve ever had. Unfortunately it was a bit small, especially for the price($ 10), and I wanted it to have a bit more going on. I added the avocado for an extra dollar which certainly helped. Still excited that there is a vegan street food place after Cinnamon Snail closed and I’m definitely coming back and will probably try their burgers!

After so much time spent admiring and salivating over Chickpea & Olive from afar on Instagram, my dream finally came true. I finally made it to NYC, and tried their food. Oh. My. God. I was not prepared. The eggplant bacon BLT was bursting and explosive and drippy and incredible. At the first bite, I was hit with the nostalgic sadness of «This sandwich won’t last forever». And yet, when it was over, every last bit of avocado and crumb of perfectly toasted 7-grain bread devoured, I was satisfied instead of regretful. At the end, as I sat licking my fingers so as not to miss any hint of flavor, a man drove by in a car and said«Finger-lickin’ good, EH??» and sped off. So I got a little street-harassment and almost a new friend at no extra cost. Everyone at this little food stand under the DUMBO arch was so friendly and obviously shared my passion and excitement about good, clean, delicious food! I will definitely be back again and again for more finger-lickin’ goodness!

Extremely delicious vegan slider. I got the«cheddar bacon» slider which was absolutely amazing. I was super impressed by the smokiness of the eggplant bacon and the beet patty which was not oily. I was shocked at 1st bite and I am rarely ever that shocked. Also the woman who served me was very nice and patient. They took credit card at Smorgasburg through a cell phone. Very very expensive. $ 8 for a slider that was smaller than the palm of my hand but well spent. I stand behind every they preach– local, organic, sustainable ingredients, and most of all #peaceonaplace I do hope they open a storefront one day or a food truck. I would definitely be a frequent vistor

I had chickpea and olive at the 5 boro bike event. Ordered the beet burger with cheddar. Never had something like this, the burger didn’t stay in its form so I would recommend an accompanying fork but as for flavor and texture I would recommend it. Also had the blood orange iced tea I would recommend. Total was $ 18, I think I was overcharged a dollar. I think this is somewhat steep and isn’t reflective of their online menu

This place is amazing. Coming from someone that loves meat and burgers, that means a lot. I was so hesitant to try this place because the concept of a burger without a beef patty or a patty made of meat is very foreign to me. I decided to be adventurous and tried this place out this past weekend. I saw that their patty was made from beets, which intrigued me and really made me want to try this place out. I love beets, but I had no idea how it would taste like in patty form. I went ahead and ordered the calexico slider, adding in eggplant bacon(what?!) with a side of slaw. The slider was relatively small but filling. The beet patty is so juicy and has such a unique taste to it. As others have mentioned, you do get that nice char that you would normally get from a non-veggie burger. The calexico slider came with avocado, chipotle aioli, lettuce, roasted heirloom tomatoes, cheddar, onions, and some jalapenos. I’m so glad I added the eggplant bacon. Everything just blended so well in terms of flavor. Chickpea and Olive does a fantastic job delivering veggie burgers. Their food offers a very unique flavor and innovative twist to the vegetarian food industry. Great job!
