I love going in this place. They embrace the arty comics scene, and the DIY comic-aesthetic low fi art world that shows up on their walls. It’s pretty hip, I guess. Man it’s fun, and a usually a great place to see fun new ideas. I remember once they invited comic artists across the country to submit art they did using only a blue bic pen– the stuff was jaw-dropping. Hope that’s an on-going series, I’d like to see that again… R. Nicholas Kuszyk is up now, and he’s painted the entire gallery, with a huge obelisk in the middle of the room. His robot wars(?) are all over the place, hilarious and touching. They charge what’s right and proper for the zines, comics and whatnot in the back — and they’re supporting some really fun young artists that I hope keep doing this fun great stuff!

This gallery was kind of small but the space they had was very well organized and the prices on the art were affordable, even to students(which I was at the time). I don’t know what kind of artist they usually attract but when I visited, it was an exhibition by Kim from the band Matt & Kim. Not many subway lines near the gallery had a convenient connection from the place in Brooklyn I was starting from so that was the main attraction for me. If other artists I had an interest in also have their exhibitions here I would gladly make the trip. Sidenote: There was a Mediterranean restaurant around the corner from here called Black Betty which I recall having very good food. Woth checking out for lunch after you visit the gallery.

They always have great shows here, set up fantasticly and the work is affordable… you can tell they care about the work and aren’t a bunch of money hungry bastards. Also, any gallery that allows a two year old and myself to hang out for a half an hour discussing the work is cool by me. Even better is being acknowledged and not frowned upon.

I love this gallery. i was just a part of the Move 16 show– one of my sharpie drawings was accepted. The space is really small– in a good way– it displays art the way I miss seeing it– raw, funny, imaginative. One of the few galleries left that displays art because they love art. I will definately go again!

I have seen a couple shows here, and all have been great. I like the mix of humor and politics. Cinders has a great combination that may turn some minds onto change(which is a different change than Obama’s). The artists who run it, I have only met the gentleman, seem very nice and into what they are doing. I wish them the best of luck in continuing their goal. I can’t wait for their next holiday show, to grab some very affordable artwork!

This place is awesome. I stopped in here on a Saturday and loved everything I saw. The great thing was how affordable some of the coolest stuff was. This is a great place to get very interesting, irreverent art for you apartment. I’m going back soon.

cinders is a friendly place run by two artists. it’s also one of the best spots for affordable art. in most galleries i’m hesitant to look at the price list, knowing full well that the piece i’m interested in will be over five thousand. that’s never the case here. they even went one better before the holidays with a screen print show. i didn’t end up getting any for gifts, but i did get myself something. further inside there’s also a store that has shirts, zines, art books, and the occasional piece of handcrafted jewelry. sometimes they have low key musical performances too. really an all around great place.
