Great low key atmosphere with an unbelievable beer selection and awesome bartenders who drink and love their own product. Plus, great pretzels and grilled cheese.

First timer here yesterday, and loved the place. HUGE selection of draft beer, and they have coolers so you can choose your own bottle. Beer prices were from $ 6-$ 9 and wine is $ 8. They also seem to serve grilled cheese and pretzles which we didn’t try. There are a ton of tables inside and outside, but the outside ones seemed to fill up super quick. The atmosphere is very chill and not pretentious. They have a bunch of games like UNO and Cards Against Humanity to the right of the bar you can take to your table and play. Covenhoven opens up to the street, but even on a hot night was very airy and cool inside. They have several huge fans that keep the air moving and feel great. Service was friendly and quick, and the music was awesome-not too loud or creepy quiet. We were here on a Monday night, so i’m not sure how crowded it gets on weekends. The place is pretty narrow so I would recommend getting there early if you want to snag a table.

Super dope bar, swanky music, tons of unique beer selections, a great set of board games. They have an outdoor seating area as well.

Something there for everyone, fantastic tap selection(I think there was 16) and a great bottle and can selection that you can take to-go or crack at the bar for a small fee. Bartenders care about beer and are very willing to help you find what you like, definitely a great spot to grab a beer for the casual beer drinker and enthusiast alike.

This place is so much fun! We were lucky enough to randomly show up the day after their anniversary party so the tap list was freaking amazing! I had a couple great brews by Grimm, Evil Twin, Farmhouse, etc. They have a ton of games you can play as you drink great brew, and they have bottles available for sale which is a bonus. We played scrabble here for a couple hours, drank amazing beer, and can’t wait to come back!

I’ve been here 100 times and never took the time to write a review. Just the best. If you like great beer, variety, always friendly service, quality and eclectic music, this is your place to spend a weekend afternoon. Lexi’s the bomb. Treat her well and enjoy yourself. It’s places like this one that make being a beer lover in Brooklyn worth the price(via beer, rent, and all things really). My home away from home on a Saturday at 2pm. My fave.

I don’t understand how this place doesn’t have more hype. It has one of the best collection of craft beers in Brooklyn, a really big variety from all types of breweries — much more than Torst or Blind Tiger. I had a great soury-brown ale and an impeccable saison. The bartenders were nice, helpful and unpretentious– which is rare to find in an Brooklyn beer bar. I didn’t get to try any of the cheese but it looked like a great selection! The to-go beers were awesome too. It was pretty small and crowded so I couldn’t get to peruse them as much as I would have liked but there were some big name beers in there.

This place is pretty great. Simple layout accommodates the beer geeks. Good draft lineup with a decent bottle selection to boot.

What a nice place. There is a refrigerated glass display of bottled beer across from the bar, and choosing one to try feels like choosing a new book from a shelf in a neighborhood book store. There are two prices listed for the bottles in the refrigerator — the higher one to stay in the bar, and the lower one(about half price) to take out. The bar does«features» on draft from breweries, so ask for a recommendation if they’re featuring something you haven’t heard of before. For food, there are usually a few variations on a grilled cheese(with different cheeses, breads, meats, and mustards), or order a big doughy pretzel.

The atmosphere at Covenhoven can’t be beat. Whether you are there during the day on a weekend, casually sipping from a can they have in their cooler or a draft on tap, playing uno with your sister and her friend while listening to Marvin Gaye on a Saturday night or on the most comfortable date you’ve ever had, Covenhoven is the place to be. I’ve admitted this before and I will continue to do so: my knowledge of craft beer is limited(read: nonexistent) so I can’t actually say much about the selection except that there are plenty of options and everyone else I know who are much more picky about their beer than I am seems to love this place. I’m a huge fan of their cider selection in the case area. Check it out if you are looking for something dry, sweet or just not beer. Great music, great people, great vibes, this place makes a great casual day or night spot. I highly recommend going in nice weather, their backyard is positively lovely(although I think they close it down at 10PM for neighbors).

I enjoyed a fun night celebrating a friend’s birthday at Covenhoven last night. The staff was friendly and, despite being very busy, they were quick and responsive to orders. Since I’m not a drinker, I can’t comment on their booze — although all of my friends were excited about their selection. However, I ordered the cheddar grilled cheese, which came with thick-hardy bacon and tasty mustard to dip it in. Since it was a bar, my expectations were pretty low; however, they were quickly exceeded when I took the first bite. The bread was thick, it wasn’t overly greasy, it was clearly high quality cheddar, bacon, and mustard… all in all… MmmMmmmGood! The only bummer is, like many places in the city, Covenhoven is small and narrow, which made it hard to figure out a place to stand where you wouldn’t be constantly in the way.

I really warmed up to this place over several visits here last year. The draft lists are always excellent, with a great assortment of styles and reasonable NYC –level prices. The inside is cool, though a bit cramped by the bar/fridge area, especially when someone is perusing the fridge for the bottle selection. The outdoor area is wonderful — if you can grab one of the in-house board games, you can happily Jenga or Connect Four away the drunken hours in a lovely setting. The sandwiches are mediocre(and you’ll probably have to flag someone down and wait awhile to get one anyway), but they have a cheese fridge where you can put together your own cheese plate to go with your beer(s) of choice, which is a concept I love — I’m well qualified to curate my own cheese plate with beer pairings, thank you very much! The service is a bit hit-or-miss — some of the bartenders can be a bit aloof or downright rude if you have questions about the beer styles(even when the bar isn’t crowded and it isn’t an issue of time). I notice this trend in some craft beer bars, and I just don’t get it. Shouldn’t you enjoy evangelizing about your passion? And, more importantly, should beer be anything but joyous and fun? But all in all, good space, great beer, great location.

What a gem this place is. The craft beer scene definitely is getting huge these days. Covenhoven always has a solid draft list for on-site pours and growler fills. In addition, they get just about every new release that is possible, including most, if not all, of the limited release bottles and cans. Covenhoven’s prices are always reasonable. My only regret is that I don’t live closer to make this my regular stop.

One of my favorite places close to my neighborhood to grab a beer and chill. The place has an impressive, rotating tap collection along with a great selection of bottles. Prices are reasonable. Service has always been friendly for me(not sure what is up with those small smattering of negative reviews). They take credit card which is convenient. There’s a limited food menu including sandwiches and pretzels that are enough to satisfy your munchies while you drink. Seating inside opens nicely out into the street, and there’s a great backyard space. Crowd is chill, laid-back and a variety of all ages. Place gets pretty lively on the weekends, especially when the weather is nice. Definitely a great spot in the Crown Heights/Prospect Heights area for all you beer lovers out there!

A crazy thought that the true pure blood Manhattanite I am ended up stumbling across this gem in a foreign place known as Brooklyn… After visiting a few awesome exhibits in the Brooklyn Museum, it was only right to explore what this borough had to offer and I’m so happy that I did. This spot was incredible — the staff was so friendly, the beer selection was endless and the vibe was so cute(not to mention the outdoor space that was packed when I went, wahhh) First off, the staff — I’m not a big beer drinker but I’ve been trying to find my niche so after trying about 5 beers on draught and liking none I was just going to be that girl to opt for the wine. Luckily the bartender stopped me. We had a discussion of the types of beers that I have liked in the past and I shared the descriptions(that of course I have saved for times like this) and she went into the fridge and pulled out a Saison that I fell in love with. I literally bought all the ones left in the fridge and took them to go. Oh and they fill growlers to go also! The place seemed to be filled with locals, some with their babies, which I was very skeptical about upon arriving because I’m not a baby person. However, all the babies were very well behaved and most importantly CUTE! I did not mind sharing my space, and staring at them while i sipped my beer secretly contemplating how I could kidnap one(totally kidding, don’t call the cops). In a nutshell the place is laid back, cool, tasty, and cute! Highly recommend.

Came here awhile back with Ingrid S. as part of our Brooklyn Beer Book Tour(don’t know what this is? Look it up!) and was surprisingly very pleased. The beer selection at Covenhoven is top notch — both on tap and in their fridges. Their food menu is also well stocked with items that pair well with craft beers(lookin’ at you deliciously fluffy pretzels and cheesy gooey grilled cheeses {3). Service here was friendly and efficient. They also invited us to their MYLITTLEPONY themed anniversary party but I already had a previous engagement *tear*. I hope to be back here again soon!

This should be your Sunday hang. For real. Super friendly staff knows beer and can match you with something you’ll like. You’ll know because they give you a taste until you find one you like! Beers on tap and in bottles are diverse and intriguing. Best parts: the noshie and games You can pull together your own cheese and meat platter from the selection in their big fridge. Easy peasy and you won’t need a bank loan. The food compliments the beers so of course you want more. Playing Jenga like we did, or battleship like our neighbors, is a wonderful way to spend a snowy winter afternoon(or summer brunch). Games are improved by beer. Get there early to get a bunch or seat, if fills up quick. Love the outdoor space. Too bad I cant clone Covenhoven to Oakland.

So happy to have discovered this bar right by my bf’s place. We went on a Saturday night and loved the ambiance. Dim lights, good music at a reasonable volume, and plenty of space. Note that they only offer beer and wine, so you won’t be able to get any cocktails. They did have an extensive beer selection though, so that was nice. And everything seemed decently priced. They have a bunch of boardgames(Battleship, Jenga, Scrabble, etc.), which made for some fun times. Staff was friendly and the place was not crowded at all. It looks like there is a front and back patio which I assume are open during warmer weather. All in all, a cool, low-key bar that I would definitely return to!

There’s a reason to drink on Classon, and I’m not talking about a place to drink a forty real quick when you break off of the West Indian Day Parade. It’s Covenhoven! This gem is really coming along and adds more every time I go. It has a fantastic selection of brews in the fridge. Obscure ones you’ve never heard of. Each beer has has a opening fee, which isn’t bad because the drinks are already priced low. There’s a very chill vibe. It’s a great spot for a group of people to relax and have a quiet night out. BYOF. Friendly bartenders. Board games. Sweet backyard. They have some bar snacks, and each time I go in I see they get a little more. It’s great to step into if you want just a beer or two,(Yes I can drink responsibly, don’t doubt me) at home. Or if you just want to grab an extra one for the road.(Ok, maybe I have some issues) Covenhoven is becoming a diamond in the rough that is Classon Ave.
