I’d been put off by the seedy-​looking exterior before, but after my recent dissatisfaction with Bagel Boy I started looking into alternatives. Like I said, the storefront doesn’t exactly inspire trust, what with half the sign missing «_​_​_​_​_​_​Bagels» and the menu written on barely legible half-​wiped chalkboards.
Luckily it’s up to par where it counts — in the bagels. They definitely stray outside the plain-​jane bagel territory, tasting as if there were some recombinant croissant genes in the mix. Harder and crispier on the outside but softer & doughier on the inside, they are a welcome respite from some of the homogenous bricks that passes for ‘bagel’ in this town. The cream cheese was a bit drippy on my hot toasted poppyseed, but the lox was a-​ok, and above all there was no surcharge for standard sundries like onions & tomatos.
