The food was bland also, I found a hair I was so disgusted and I was looking forward to it.

Okay so this used to be my favorite place… but…the last time I went here I was disappointed! I persuaded my BF to try it and he did. I bragged about the jerk chicken which is sooooo delish! Well, not that night! It was burnt, dry, and hard… and not seasoned well. I was so disappointed. Because I know how it «normally tastes» I will give them another try. I just have to remember not to go at the end of the day… no more burnt hard dry chicken for me… no thank you! Sad to say, my BF will not be back.

I’ve been going to this place for years. It’s in my hood, and I love the people that work there. It’s my go to spot for jerk, and stew chicken. Solid food, even if it looks like a suspect establishment lol. The smell of jerk on the grill will get you every time.

Never had anything outside of the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken is always tasty, never dry but moist. I dropped two stars because when you think of jerk you want a little kick even I you don’t want full on spice. The other reason I dropped stars is because the décor is dingy looking. The Department of Health score was either an A or a B. So I’m guessing they either paid for that grade lol or the dept of health figured they just need to remodel.

Been a regular here since they opened. I was 11 yrs old then, I’am 25 now, and I still go. I love their curry goat. It is just right, especially if you’re a fan of spicy food. Their food is always fresh. And guaranteed if you’re walking a few blocks away, you can smell the jerk chicken cooking outside on the grill(even in the winter.) Almost everything on the menu is amazing. I also love the king fish with the rice & peas. I highly recommend this place.

Dave’s is my go to spot for west indian cuisine, when my mother is on strike from cooking. I always get the oxtails and rice and peas(extra gravy). The only gripe i have with this place is the rice and peas. There are times where the rice is too spicy. Now i’m no wuss, but i’m also not Chuck Norris. I have to taste test everything before i give it to the children. Just a heads up.

I work in this neighborhood and there are not many options, Dave’s is one of the decent places around, plus they deliver. My favorite meals are the curry goat and the fish, porgie or kingfish(tastes like chicken) and they are very affordable. Plus they now take debit and credit cards!

Dave knew what he was doing when he put only 4 oxtails in my 13.00 plate stating«times are tough«! How bout this won’t be back!

I was driving down Sutter Ave when I spotted their charcoal grill smoking away and the awning that advertised Jamaican food… That’s all the motivation I needed! I love Jamaica and I love Jamaican food. I went in and straight to the counter. For $ 9 I got a plate of rice and peas, fresh grilled jerk chicken and veggies… to feed 2 people! They have mini, medium and large portions of their meals. My experience with most Jamaican rice and peas is that it’s not a very flavorful dish… Well not here! I have to say this was probably the best rice and peas I’ve had. And the Jerk was pretty darn good. nice smokey flavor. The only complaint was that it probably wasn’t spicey enough but it had a lot of flavor. Décor wise, well this is more of a take out spot. You don’t find many fancy(maybe none?) restaurants/eateries in East New York. It’s a low income area and not always the safest to be… but Dave’s will definitely see me again! Next time I’ll try to get in early for some Ackee and saltfish! I am definitely a fan!

Let’s face it, East New York inhospitable when it comes to eating. If you don’t want shitty fast food or sketchy fried chicken, you’re mostly out of luck. Fortunately, Caribbean restaurants are popping up all over the place and some of them are pretty good. I did a job out there a few years ago and I had to park a couple of blocks away in front of Dave’s. The food was great and I made sure I remembered where it was because of the rough neighborhood. I haven’t been back but if it’s still open, I would definitely go again.
