History
Established in 1997.
I started working with dogs as a volunteer at an animal shelter when I was 11 years old. I was always unconventional preferring the effects of trust and good communication over tricks, treats, and repetition. I studied all the standard training approaches of the day and took direction from various «professional» trainers. My experience was that everyone was an expert in doing the same thing and that I found that most of it completely missed the mark.
I went to work for a high end dog training company. I worked my way from kennel help to lead trainer inside of 3 years and after 5 years left to open my own business and codify my own approach. Enter Dog-Dojo. In trying to «Find My Spot,» Dog-Dojo and I have moved around and eventually settled in NYC. What can I say: We fit.
I’ve been in business for 15 years, training dogs for 30, and have worked privately with over 700 dogs. I currently work with my partner, Monique and we are co-creating media in support of The CoOperative Approach.

Kai M.
Business Owner
To our New York-based clients Kai is «New York City’s Dog Whisperer,» a moniker Kai earned on ABC’s 20⁄20 in 2003. Kai has privately worked with over 700 dogs and this year will mark 30 years of training. In addition to media exploits, Kai has spent the better part of the last ten years in pursuit of a deeper understanding and application of the human/dog connection. The result of this work is the service we bring to the doorsteps and dog runs of NYC.
Kai has developed a method of raising and rehabbing dogs that we call The CoOperative Approach. Focused on character development and energy management, our approach has sometimes been called martial arts for dogs. We puts our clients’ attention on what they want to achieve and moves them and their dogs endlessly in pursuit of that. Our clients call it «training from the inside out.» The CoOperative Approach is extremely effective regardless of how old a dog is or how steeped in the problem they are.
