I’ve been to Dr. Urban for two proceedures-Removal of hardware & screws from my right shoulder after having my rotator cuff blown apart, and having had the metal in me for 28 years… I felt that each and every minute of those 28 years, with a lot of associated chronic pain as a result. I gave him the thumbs up to go ahead and operate, after many preliminary visits. Not only is he a really nice fellow, but understood my problem, and put me in a good frame of mind to get this done, which, was a total success… now 10 months later, I feel no pain at all(I was pretty much recovered after 2 months), and everything went so well that I let him do arthroscopic surgery on my knee for a torn meniscus… again, all went smoothly and I recovered fast and can say that he’s a really good surgeon… I may have him do something else in the new year!

I’ve seen Dr. Urban twice. Both times he was brief and curt. Usually I can expect this from doctors but since I waited at least 4 hours each time to see him I was expecting more than a 2 minute visit. The reception staff are often rude and will gossip among themselves before they serve you. Also, I needed to get him to fill out some paperwork. First they lost the paperwork twice, then they charged me $ 15, and it took them cumulatively 5 hours of waiting time in 3 separate visits over three weeks to finally complete this. The problems with the staff just aren’t worth it.

I saw Dr. Urban 4 or 5 times, and he was good. He is confident and gave good recommendations regarding my knee problems. That’s the good part. The first time I saw him, I waited for 3 ½ hours… that pretty much destroyed my day at work. I would have never gone back were I able to find any other knee specialists that took my insurance at the time. The wait wasn’t as bad on subsequent visits. However, on one of my visits, the receptionist insisted that I had no co-pay. I insisted that I had a $ 20 copay. She insisted that I didn’t, and wouldn’t take my payment. Three times I tried to pay, and she wouldn’t accept it. Of course I got a bill in the mail. So I mailed a check. They cashed it. I continued to get the same bill. I called their billing department to try to straighten it out, and left a message on their voicemail FOUR times over the course of a month or two. They never answered the phone, they never called back. I brought a copy of my cancelled check the next time I went to see Dr. Urban, but the receptionist wouldn’t help me. She told me to call the billing department. After trying to pay my bill 8 times, I gave up. Fast forward a year. Today I got a call about the bill from a collection agency. At least the collection agency will answer the phone when I call, process my payment and stop sending me bills.

A top-notch orthopedic sports medicine doctor specializing in knees and shoulder. After my first visit(knee contusion after sports-related accident), I am confident in his capabilities – he listened to me carefully, performed a thorough exam and took the time to explain fully both my condition and a treatment plan. Definitely would recommend to those with sports injuries. Nice guy, too, which of course is a plus. Accepts most forms of insurance with a referral. A long office room wait, but it’s pretty quiet so that’s not so problematic.
