Guys this isn’t a five star restaurant. It is just a great local Brooklyn pizza shop. Its not fancy but if you are looking for a good Brooklyn slice its a great place. Crust is thin, not greasy highly recommend.

Tony makes a terrific Pizza and I just ordered a everything Pizza or Kitchen Sink and I know it will be fabulous. My wife, Cecilia and I eat from Espresso Pizza at least once per week. Tony and Staff — Keep up the amazing food. Thanks. Steven

Probably the best slice joint in Bay Ridge, for a plain cheese slice you can’t ask for much more. There are better specialty pizzerias in the area(Peppino’s, Campana), but that’s a different category of pizza. For a no frills, Brooklyn slice with the signature taste everybody expects when they want NY pizza, this is the place to go. Sauce not too sweet, great fresh flavorful crust, maybe a little too greasy for some people but not as greasy as many of the other slice joints around. You know a place with walk up window service is the real deal.

For some reason this is my favorite place in the neighborhood for a plain cheese slice. Maybe there is just a nice balance between cheese, grease, crust, tomato and salt. Pizza Wagon(up near 86), in contrast, is thinner and greasier, and Nino’s(over on third) is a little thicker and somehow a little more bland. The place is a dive, and the owner is a bit gruff, but I’ve seen him be generous with some of the marginal characters who live around the block(letting them use the phone etc), and I really don’t need my ass kissed every time anyway.

Since moving here I was recommended to give the chicken rolls a try and not only are those delicious so is everything else. Also, Tony is one of the most friendliest guys you’ll ever be around and they always make you feel right at home.

Nice pizzeria in the shadows of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. I stopped in to sample a slice… nothing fantastic and not disappointing either. Slice was served hot and crunchy added my usual garlic salt, hot pepper, oregano and I love places that put out grated romano cheese to sprinkle on my slices hmmmm yummy. Thats why it gets the added star cheese baby… gimme more cheese!!!

Awesome pizza! Good size, great chew, good amount of cheese, and easy to fold. And the garlic knots are amazing! You must order them. I always regret not getting more! The man who owns and works the joint is super sweet and good humored. Out of all the pizza places I’ve tried in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, this is the best. It’s pizza done simple, good, and right.

Very very good pizza and very interesting, that is, if you like pesto. Try there famous pesto pizza, which is super yummy and exotic for pizza. Definitely different. Fresh mozz and good sauce with a sprinkle of pesto and it’s just the right amount. I would give this place 5 stars but the price for the pie was I think $ 19??? That’s a bit pricey for pizza is BayRidge but it’s worth is every so often. Fast, too.

I really don’t understand how this place has such good reviews. We ordered a plain pie the other night based on the rave reviews and was very disappointed. We didn’t even finish a slice each and threw the whole pie out. The sauce was vile and way over seasoned.

Just simple, great pizza. Nothing fancy. I think this is what people think of when they think Brooklyn Pizza. A plain pie comes to $ 15. A pie with half pepperoni comes to $ 17.50. I got a pepperoni and half eggplant once and it was $ 21.

I’ve been living in Bay Ridge for six months now and had a chance to sample Pizza in about a dozen of the more than 30 pizzerias in this less than 2 sq mi neighborhood(which says a lot). ATMOSPHERE: Typical no-frills 70’s neighborhood take out pizzeria. A counter, a few tables and chairs. SERVICE: The older gentleman at the counter was reserved & polite.(I wouldn’t expect to be schmoozed over a $ 2 slice this is not a restaurant) FOOD: The pizza was tasty, the sauce more salty than sweet, the crust almost reached the point of cracking when folded in half. The cheese seemed fresh and there was an average amount of it. NOTE: my only caveat was that there was a critter crawling on the counter out in the open. I wish I hadn’t seen it because I think the pizza here is slightly & consistently above average. The place has an A rating but I’m not sure if I would return. This is NYC after all, and they’re everywhere –but to see one out in the open is disappointing.

I’ve walked by this place many times and noticed it was run by real Italians so I always wanted to give it a try. I walked in for lunch and the gentleman behind the counter was making a pizza, so I just waited there. He did not say a word nor acknowledge me(I would have at least expected, «I’ll be with you in a minute». I gave him my order and was out the door within 5 minutes but there was no «Thank You» or anything. Not expecting first class service from a Pizzeria, but at least a «Hi» or a «Thank You» would have been nice. Heck, he didn’t even look up at me. That being said, this definitely wasn’t the worst pizza I’ve ever had, but it definitely wasn’t great. Mediocre at best. Make the extra trek to Pizza Wagon, better service and MUCH better pizza.

I have a passion for pizza, but save the dough/sauce/cheese experience for special occasions being that I want to keep my Gluten and Dairy consumption to a minimum. That being said, when I do decide to spoil my taste buds, I want it to be a great experience. I was excited when reading the reviews for Espresso pizza, and it looked like the perfect place to get an amazing slice of pizza. No way — what a pleasure fail. It was just a run of the mill pizza experience for me. I had a regular slice that was barely inching up from bland to mediocre. Did I go to the wrong place by mistake? Walked out and looked at the address, and nope, this is the place with all of the great reviews. Bad day for pizza for them? Hmmmm.

I stopped by Espresso Pizzeria the other day with some friends. We ordered one margherita pizza that took about fifteen minutes to make. The presentation was great, with streaks of green basil oil topping off the slices of perfectly melted cheese… it smelled amazing! We were all excited to taste it, and when we did – we weren’t disappointed, but we weren’t blown away either. The pizza tastes like a hybrid between a traditional margherita and Brooklyn style pie – having a thicker, breadier crust coupled with fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese on top. I enjoyed the taste and texture of the crust, but the red sauce was a bit too sweet for me. The biggest letdown though was the green basil oil, which I thought would provide a strong basil flavor. Unfortunately it just tasted like oil – I(shockingly) didn’t taste the basil at all. Several of my friends also mentioned that the pizza was under-seasoned; they said that adding copious amounts of salt and pepper did wonders to improve the flavor. All in all, I probably wouldn’t come here again. Compared to many other Bay Ridge pizzerias – this one is simply underwhelming. 2.75 stars.

This is a very simple, no-frills pizzeria across from the Fiat and BMW dealerships in Bay Ridge that serves up an excellent cheese slice and calzones. I first was impressed that the staff at BMW did not even know it was called Espresso. They called it «Tony’s Pizza» because Tony really is the soul of this place, but the pizza is excellent too. The crust won me over, but the sauce and cheese was perfect too. The slice came to $ 2.25, but I only had $ 2.10 in cash and a credit card. Tony forgave me the $.15 and gave me the pizza anyway. Now I see why everyone loves Tony, and the cheese slice too.

Seriously, what is up with the love for this place? I don’t know if it was«Tony» who served me, but the guy behind the counter was far from friendly. He never made eye contact, he never said hello, and I was the only one eating there. There was one pizza premade for slices and I have had better pizza in a mall. Some people who are unrelated to the owner should start reviewing this place because it was way average and not deserving of 4.5 stars.

Like the AFC and the NFC, I believe there are two divisions that define Pizza eating, especially in NY. First there are the traditional dine-in experiences… Lucali, Pauly Gee, Grimaldis, Totonnos, Motorino’s, etc. Places where whole pies are made to order and often cooked in wood– or coal-fired ovens. These are meals you go to and linger over. Then you’ve got the street division… the neighborhood joints whipping up a selection of pies ready to portion out, and a good percentage of customers simply grab a slice of what’s available. Neither division is better, as sometimes you want an extended love making session, whereas other times you want some instant gratification. The margarita slice at Espresso might just be the best pizza quickie you can get in all of greater New York. I had noticed this place appearing high in the Unilocal ratings but had never seen it mentioned in any«best of» article, blog, etc.(to my knowledge). Was the wisdom of the crowds really working? So here I found myself in Bay Ridge and decided to check it out. Don’t arrive expecting an escape to Naples… it looks and feels exactly like a thousand other neighborhood slice joints. From previous reviews it was rumored their pre-made selection was pretty simple… and upon arrival, the only thing on the counter(at noon on a Friday) was half a cheese pizza. I like the occasional simple slice of cheese, but was this really the only thing being offered? Turns out he had a Sicilian and Margarita in the oven, and I was happy to wait the 5 minutes. Glad I did. I was always terrible at math but here before me was the perfect triangle. Above average in size, with blobs of hot white cheese bubbling on a sea of red sauce, the pizza maestro finished the tricolor painting with artful strokes of basil infused olive oil. If there was a food section in the Louvre, this slice would draw more visitors than that Mona chick. And still there was more David Blane-like wizardry. Despite the bountiful tomato sauce, oozy cheese and well-lubricated body, the crust stayed taught for the duration(which doesn’t always happen with quickies). I don’t know if this place can win the«best of» debate when it comes to overall Pizza goodness in NYC. But they could win that division. If you want an easy — but quality score — jump on the R train. It’s worth it for a good quickie.
