Ms T and I stopped at Farmer Nicks for lunch sort of by accident, while passing through. It is a typical small town restaurant serving up the usual offerings. I was actually looking for a meat loaf platter, but did not see it on the menu so opted for a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. I don’t eat these things often, but do like to. This probably won’t win awards, but was reasonably good and had enough meat in it to be tasted. It was not just all breading with some cardboard in the middle. It was also not the ridiculous, giant elephant ear kind of thing so many people are fond of, but was plenty big for me. The side of onion rings could have actually been homemade. They looked kind of irregular, more like large onion straws, and were in fact quite good. My order of coleslaw was actually very good, creamy with an nice, sweet-sour balance. Ms T ordered the hot chicken fried steak sandwich plate(bread, topped with mashed potatoes and gravy with meat). Unfortunately due to some misunderstanding she did not get chicken fried steak. I guess it was chicken patties. She liked them fine as well as the gravy, but the mashed potatoes were clearly of the instant kind. A side of some vegetable would have been nice on the plate, but the serving was very large. I would raise the rating if her platter had appeared homemade. We ordered two pieces of homemade pie to go; one coconut cream and one blackberry. The coconut cream was tasteless, close your eyes and you would not detect coconut, but the blackberry was very good. This is an OK place for what it is. There were a number of people having lunch, probably regulars. I’m sure there are good things and not-so-good things. It is not going to attract people from far away, but if I am driving by again at the right time, I just might stop in. My two star rating is rounded down from 2−½ based on one meal.
