Surprisingly, wonderful. Surprising because you wouldn’t necessarily expect any bar on this dainty streetcorner (just blocks from Prospect Park) to follow any of the ‘old-​time’ taproom standards or traditions. Nope. Not considering the trendy location. But Farrell’s does keep the faith! It’s not upscale but it is not a dive, either. What matters is that they pay attention to important details here. I will quickly itemize:
First, the bar is ROOMY. As you enter, there’s a very convenient coat-​room available (nice touch). ‘Prime drinking position’ of course, is close to the large plate-​glass windows facing the street. But there’s a comfy bench running under the window as well! If you have a girl with you – this is where ya gotta go. Smooching nest for sure. Stack of newspapers and magazines there, if you’re solo and want something to read.
Next: fair prices, clean glasses, and good service. Did not eat here so can’t comment on food. But I will say that farther towards the back of the room, all the deuce-​tops for dining, are well-​chosen & placed so as not to cramp anyone.
There’s very clean, large bathrooms with ample urinals. Plenty of elbow room.
Returning to topic: a bar rail is installed at ankle-​level (too many other bars neglect the importance of this). Floors are clean, with good wood underfoot. Not like some bars which are sticky and disgusting to tread on.
In general, the room itself has a very light and airy tone to it. I also appreciate the *minimal* clutter and kitsch on the walls. And lighting which is easy-​on-​the-​eyes. Not too many TVs in one’s face, either.
Finally: must issue my compliments to the owners for retaining an Allegro II Touchtunes model jukebox; a monster. Though massive, it is superb, deft, & adroit. NOT one of those new sissy, unmanly, phone-​style jukes. (Bravo! Stop with the asinine phone-​culture please!).
Clientele? Admittedly the bar has a ‘core group’ of wizened regulars which give the impression that this is an «old man’s bar». But it’s really not. I nominate this bar as a venue which any age drinker can embrace. The older guys give the place class and charm. Overall, very well done job by Farrell’s management if the goal was a casual, easygoing, *comfy* dive bar. They succeeded.

When you think of an «old man pub», picture Farrell’s. There’s no better way to describe it. My boyfriend and I went because we wanted to have a beer in the styrofoam cups. I believe it was 32 ounces of Bud Light for $ 7 in the cup. The beer stayed ice cold the entire time we were drinking it. The bartender reminded me of Robin Williams a little bit and was very nice. I liked the atmosphere of the bar and was there for happy hour, so I was around all of the «regulars» which made me feel like I was a regular there too. I like that you can bring in your own food and no one bothers you. If you don’t want to sit at the bar there are plenty of areas throughout the place that you can stand or sit that are a little more intimate. I would definitely go back for a beer again. I also had no idea that they didn’t serve women there initially. This definitely made the overall experience a lot more significant to me.

So another nostalgic memory shot to hell. Used to frequent Farrell’s many years ago. Remember the paper cups quite well, the sponsored teams, local crowds and fun. So I thought then.
Returned to area recently and looked to return. Saw online they had a menu so 3 of us were going to visit for late lunch.
Well we walked in today treated like lepers from both the 8 – 9 locals and the bartender. Walked out the back door. Will never walk in again.
It was like we were green people walking into a private bar for purple people. You know what I mean. Looking for eye contact from anyone was a waste. The bartender actually walked away. There was some chuckling from a few. Maybe about us, maybe unrelated? Couldn’t tell and couldn’t care less. If the 8 or 9 of them have their private oasis to themselves, happy birthday. Maybe the owner was there, maybe not?
Well plenty of other pleasant establishments in the area.
Hey does Juniors still make cheesecake, does Coney Island Nathan’s still sell hot dogs and raw clams, does the Williamsburg savings bank still have the clocks up there? Hope so because Farrell’s is no longer a repeat desire.

Farrell’s is an old man pub. A legit old man pub. You’ll see the nice décor from the outside and its cutely situated across from the Park Slope Pavilion Movie Theater and think gee golly gee wiz, so cute! Open the door and in comes that waft of musk. Old men, grime, cheap beer, maybe a little urine in the corner over some excitement with the latest horse race on tv. I’m not kidding. But it has a certain amount of charm to it. Like you will see some truly interesting characters in here. The staff has always been friendly, though, its also been a minute since I came inside. They only have about three different kinds of beer on draft: Bud, Bud Lite, and Stella Artois. Pick your poison! And then shove that in a 32 ounce styrofoam cup for only a few bucks. Yes, you heard me right. I could never hate on this institution though. It’s a classic.

Gotta love unpleasant bartenders that just stare at you when you say hello. Be sure to leave any positive vibes at the door.

This is one of the coolest tavern in Brooklyn. The beer is always cold and fresh cause it flows non stop. During the summer, I used to pick up beers in a large cup while lying in prospect park. The bartender is always nice and though the crowd is rowdy, most of them are great.

Especially knowing the history with this bar and how they didn’t serve women until the 70s when Shirley MacLaine pitched a fit, I was flattered when I popped in for a Stella on Super Bowl Sunday and a man approached me with one of the greatest compliments of my life. He said, «I’ve been watching you for a while, and you, madame, drink like a hooligan. I salute you!» Then he bought me another beer. I was right about this bar.

Best Tavern any where!!! been going since the 70“s I’m a Regular. So come by and buy a T shirt. Farrells is the place. Best Ice cold Bud’s ANYWHERE PINTS OR CONTAINERS. ONCE YOU COME YOU’ll keep coming back if you are into sports you will blend in. If you are a Civil service worker this is the place. Cops, firefighters, sanitation &transit ect, ect. Bartenders are down to earth. Just come and see for yourself worth a trip from anywhere.

Best and coldest beer I ever had YESSSSSSSSSS. One of the oldest bars around. You aint going there for foo foo fancy drinks or the ambiance. It is a Bar YESSSSSSSSSSS

Farrell’s is one of the old bars of Brooklyn. It takes a lot of criticism because apparently it didn’t allow woman inside until recent years. The good news is that woman are now allowed.
The interior has a lot of nice wood finishes and the service rooms are very clean.
Bar Service was good. The Stella on tap was awesome and it came in a massive white styrofoam cup known locally as a «container». After asking for plastic lids for our containers we hit the road with our beers without problems.

This place is horrendous. Though some will herald it as a true ‘neighborhood bar’ that existed long before Park Slope became what it is today replete with yuppies and liberals and whathaveyou, one experience here was enough to prove that these neighborhood changes have been largely for the better. I am no stranger to local dives, but this one has such an aggressive, weirdly xenophobic vibe that is impossible to tolerate (note: tolerance is also not high on the list of things they do well, as told by a non-​white friend). Came here with my brother and sister-​in-​law and were essentially harassed by the local lecherous clientele that we left almost immediately. Hoping that it doesn’t stick around much longer.

The coldest beer in brooklyn, a lot of fun, worth the trip to park slope for bud lighjt.

Great bar, ICE COLD buckets. Friendly environment. If you want to know about the neighborhood hang out here for a few hours.

Just get a container and rest is history! I’ve been going to this bar since I was young «of course w/​people that can get me a beer» but it’s a cool place to chill especially if your from that neighbor hood… Best beer in brook!

I guess due to inflation this place went up to $ 6 for a big boy Bud styrofoam (damn you, economy). I’ve been here for St. Patty’s twice and it was interesting to be drinking outdoors in full view of the NYPD, but I think because this place is probably protected, no one said anything. The corned beef wasn’t bad either. There’s always a story here: from the Russian guy getting made fun of by a rowdy Brooklyn local for having a «funny accent», to me being told I was going to lose in the Fourth of July Hotdog Eating Contest (the sharp local assumed I was Kobayashi). So while you’re not dealing with Rhodes scholars, I like this place for its close proximity to the F train and that you can drink two of the big beers (never 3, it’s asking for trouble) and have a solid pregame before going somewhere else (there is on average about 1 – 2 women here a night, and most are well past their prime).

Yes, this is the spot. The spot where the true old School Brooklynites roam. The FDNY, EMT, Cops, blue collar, working class, neighbors, coworkers, comrades come and have a cold one. Even if its served in a large Styrofoam cup. Farrell’s been a Windsor Terrace landmark since the 30’s. Sure the area has been gentrified. But when I walked into Farrells I felt sheltered from the hipsters and Yups that caused the flight of old childhood friends. In Farrells it felt so genuine, thorough, so Brooklyn. Nothing pretentious, about this place. Come root for the Yanks, Mets, Jets and Giants. Farrell’s is the place for a quick beer, and interesting conversations. In advance, Farrell’s I appreciate your service for all these years and many to come.

The most authentic «real» Brooklyn bar in all of Brooklyn.
They won’t serve you a fair trade organic whisky drizzled over an extra large artisanally-​inspired, hand carved frozen chunk of sub zero Fiji water.
You get a Bud Light in a styrofoam cup.
And you get such a cup because you can then stand outside and smoke your stogie or no-​filter Camel extra strongs laced with mashed up asbestos.
Heck, they didn’t allow ladies in here until 1970-​something, according to rumors. And if you order anything with crushed mint, they’ll still kick you out — penis or not.
This is a bar where you can get into a conversation with the person next to you, and 2 minutes later, he’s saying, «that’s a bunch of fucking bullshit.» He’s not starting a fight, but simply not agreeing with your premise.
There are no conversations about fixed wheel bikes or what’s hot on Etsy. This is old Brooklyn and classic bar conversation… sports, politics, where to eat for cheap, how’s your momma?
This is also the bar where all the firemen go to raise a cup to their fallen comrades on ⁹⁄₁₁.
That’s why you should go there at least once if you really want to experience Brooklyn.
Just don’t order anything with crushed mint while talking about your Etsy bargain.

The juxtaposition between this spot and Double Windsor, located right across the street, couldn’t be more apparent. For all it’s positives, Double Windsor is, at it’s heart, a hipster/​yuppie watering hole with a well curated list of craft beers and good food. Farrell’s, on the other hand, is a blue collar haven of domestic beers served in oversized styrofoam cups. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being critical, I enjoy both settings equally. And, if you haven’t yet, you should definitely drop into Farrell’s and give something new a try.
My friends and I stopped by for a «container» — a 32 oz styrofoam cup of beer — on our way out to a Brooklyn Cyclones game in Coney Island. Given our plans, we couldn’t have picked a better place to do a little faux tailgating. The patrons of Farrell’s are about as «Brooklyn» as they come. These are the folks that grew up in pre-​gentrified Brooklyn when Park Slope was just another rough ‘hood between the waterfront and Prospect Park. Just being around these guys pumped me up to cheer on the Cyclones in their game against Staten Island.
While we weren’t there for any major sporting events, I’m guessing that this place would be a blast for any NFL or MLB sports watching. This is the perfect crowd for sports — guys that are passionate about their teams and aren’t afraid to let that be known.
All-​in-​all, this was a solid spot to kick back and drink a massive cup of beer and just enjoy being in Brooklyn. Farrell’s feels old school without being overly dive-​y or dirty. Definitely worth a trip if you’re in the area.
