Gounardes Steven DDS

My local dentist recently had a medical emergency and reluctantly decided to close his practice. This left me stranded in the middle of a root canal and in severe pain. I looked locally for an endodontist in my insurance network and came across Mr. Gounardes (who actually is not an endodontist/​false advertising on Doc Find/​big problem later). Sophie was wonderful on the phone and quickly scheduled me a same day appointment, even though we were approaching the new year holiday weekend, and most dental offices were closed. I told her on the phone that I required gas for any dental work, as I was in severe pain, she still told me to come in.
When I arrived, the office was clean and I was offered my paperwork. After that, my experience began to deteriorate. I was sitting in the chair shaking because I was in pain, and Dr. Gounardes came in and acted kind telling me he was going to help me get rid of the pain. I inquired about the gas, and found that there «was not enough left» for me, and that it needed to be saved «for the kids.» Are you kidding? Why was I any less of a patient? Now more nervous, I was treated like a child. «You need to calm down or I won’t be able to do anything for you.» He ended up giving me a shot in the gum. He kept asking if I was still in pain, and would walk away and return later to ask the same thing. THE PAIN NEVER WENT AWAY COMPLETELY. In fact, the area where I was given a shot is currently ABSESSED (more later). I kept trying to «grow a pair» and eventually was passed off to his female hygienist who was kind and distracted me from the nerves with conversation.
When we finally got around to being able to assess the tooth, I was told that he could fill it for me and give me an antibiotic, but that I would have to seek out an endodontist (a root canal specialist) to finish the root canal. The entire appointment, I believed that he was such a specialist. I paid a co pay for nothing, left with a numb face, little relief, and the same problem.
I called their emergency line today, I needed something for the pain I am still in. Sophie called Mr. Gounardes who said that he couldn’t give me anything because of new laws, and was asked if I could come in on Monday (What so he can charge my insurance and do nothing for me still?). NOTHING. This dentist has done nothing short of prolong an issue that is now worse. I have a severe lump and a very sore cheek above a decaying tooth, and he is willing to about-​face when I ask for help.
I am sorry, but being in pain isn’t helping this review. Sophie thanks for your help, Dr. Gounardes, your bedside manner and unwillingness to help patients (who could potentially offer long-​term business) is terrible.

I never thought I’d enjoy going to the dentist office as much as I enjoy seeing everyone at Dr. G’s!
The first time I went was in September, when I was 8 months pregnant. Anna, the hygienist, did a great job on my cleaning. She was very attentive and made me feel comfortable (as comfortable as can be at 8 months pregnant!). Sophie at the front desk was also very friendly. I saw Dr. G for about 2 minutes total.
The second visit was 6 months later. Sophie called and before even talking about my appointment, congratulated me on the baby and asked how he was doing! She confirmed my appointment and even said I can bring the baby and she’ll watch him! Above and Beyond!
I came for my appointment (baby in tow), and everyone was fawning over the little guy. When I settled in for my cleaning, I started hearing cries from the front desk. Soon it turned into full-​blown, inconsolable crying. Sophie had him in her arms, was walking around and doing anything she could to soothe him! Sweet lady. At that point, Anna finished cleaning as quick as possible, and I grabbed my baby. He calmed down and I sat in the chair with my baby in my lap as Dr G came in for a quick check up.
Such a nice office staff, with a small-​town feel in a big city!
