This place is a nice spot. The selection is sweet, and surprising the food is incredible. Got to try that mac n cheese dish again. Prices are fair and definitely got to there again.

I guess i’ll be that asshole that writes the bad review. I see ZERO appeal of this place. its in fact, NOT cozy, NOT comfortable, and NOT Inviting. as Im walking in with my fiancé, there are 5 ugly fat guys standing outside smoking, and not in a «normal Greenpoint» way. They all had scowls on their face and no one looked happy. They didnt look friendly or cool in anyway. Go inside, big bulky uncomfortable tables, weird lighting, and overall just not appealing. Music was decent though. Given the other options in the hood, especially for this type of bar, just go Black Rabbit down the street. its about as lame as Blackout on Manhattan Ave. Ive never tried the food though, so maybe i’ll give it one more shot. My fiancé is done with the place…

The selection of board games that actually have all of their pieces and scorecards was the saving grace of this lil bar. The downfall: their attempt to charge $ 8 for a Stoli tonic? At a tiny neighborhood bar on Greenpoint Ave? Really?

A friend introduced me to Gypsy, and it is a really cool place to just relax with friends. They offer a great selection of beers. and an excellent happy hour which includes good prices on excellent food! Let’s face it, a hungry drunk is an ugly drunk, and I guess they figured that out. The servers are prompt, attentive and funny. It can get a little loud because the place is small, but it’s so comfortable there, it’s a small price to pay.

gypsy bar, oh gypsy bar. i live down the block form this amazing little hot spot, and every time I walk by on my way home I can’t help but stop in. they’ve got some seriously delicious & fresh food-stuffs on the menu, the loveliest people you’ll ever meet behind the bar, and the brunch is killer. the 3 for $ 3 fancy-pants tacos and yummy sliders during happy hour are the cherry on top. and they let me drink my wine out of a mug. just like I like it. can’t beat it. much love, gypsy bar. xx

I once went on an awkward OKCupid date at this place. But you know what? The Gypsy Bar almost made it feel like it was just a normal, decent night out. It just seems to have a bunch of the right elements. The food’s good(especially the top-notch gourmet tacos, which, last I checked, were $ 3 at happy hour!) but the menu’s not so large as to be overwhelming. I can say the same about the drink menu– extensive, but not overwhelming. It has a dim, wooden, wine bar type look to it(which I fear may put some people off), but it doesn’t have a wine bar feel in the sense that the menu is pretty straightforward and everything is decently priced. In short, if you want a wine bar feeling but without(not yet at least) wine bar prices or a wine bar-sized menu, it’s the place. If you want a place where you can sit down and swirl a glass of(relatively cheap) wine in dim light while impressing your date without feeling pretentious, it’s the place. And, if you want to get to an awesome bar in Greenpoint that’s ten feet from the subway and isn’t(yet) drowning in crowds, it’s the place.

Some friends and I had a surprise birthday party here since the birthday girl lives only a block or so away. They let us reserve some tables and didn’t mind us putting up a few silly decorations consisting of dinosaurs, balloons, and annoying whistles. The staff was very patient, friendly, and accommodating. They have some awesome bar food(try the Fried Pita!). There’s also a great selection of beers on tap. I don’t live all that close to Gypsy, but when visiting friends in Greenpoint it’s the go-to place.

Since discovering it, have been to Gypsy bar almost as often as once a week. This is one of my favorite places to go to when I am in Greenpoint. Very cozy atmosphere, great service, and a fantastic beer selection. I like that it is a more relaxed and calm bar. I can stop by after a long day and enjoy a beer in peace. I highly recommend checking it out.

Fantastic addition to the neighborhood. Great candlelit atmosphere, good music(Smiths, Band of Horses, etc. on our visit) and of course a solid selection of rotating beers on tap. The real surprise was how good the food was. This is a really a bar afterall, but the veggie tacos, steak sandwich and fries(which could easily serve two) were all excellent. They’ve only been around for 2 months, but it was pretty dead at 8:30 on a Thursday. Hopefully it catches on… Greenpoint could use a place like this, I want it to stick around.

After Wednesday night’s Punk Rope class a bunch of stopped by the Gypsy Bar as we had heard good things. We were not disappointed. The space itself is attractive and cozy, but not at all claustrophobic. There was an excellent selection of beers on tap and to our surprise and delight food was also available. We ordered the veggie tacos, which were quite tasty. The manager, Anna, was lovely and accommodating(she offered us tastes of 2 beers that we weren’t familiar with) and the vibe was upbeat but not too crazy. All the customers seemed to be relaxed and deep in conversation, which in my opinion creates an ideal environment for a neighborhood bar. I’ll be going back and bringing friends.

I was very happy to see Gypsy open up recently in the space formerly occupied by Sabor restaurant. Cozy, candlelit and friendly with a fine and rotating selection of quality ales on tap. When I was too busy to cook last week I dropped by and tried(on different nights) the steak sandwich and the sliders. Both delicious. Staff is friendly and this is very quickly becoming a favorite place, and a great one to meet my neighbors.

Great little spot in Greenpoint. Perfect place for a few friends to grab a drink, or to take someone on a first or second date. Not really a «meeting spot».
