This will be the only place I go to any type of alteration. Holie is such a sweet man and a professional and it shows in his workmanship. There is a language barrier, his English is very limited but yet we can still understand each other. He will tell you his life story which all it can do is make you smile when he tells you he is 80 years old. He boasts about how his prices haven’t changed in 20 years and he will show you an old piece of paper with original prices. $ 10 for a hem in NYC wow.

Great guy and best in tailoring. Prices are unbeatable. Tailored more than 5 suits there and will keep coming back.

This guy is great, and I will be coming back for so many reasons.
For one, the prices are unbeatable. I had two large coats, which both needed pocket liners replaced and all the buttons tightened. On top of that, I had jeans that were ripped and needed stitching. The total price was only $ 30.00!
Furthermore, the quality of the work done is excellent. You can really tell that this man cares about what he does, and has been doing it for a long time.
Finally, Holie is a great guy! Really just an all around nice man.

This guy is the best in bensonhurst area for a tailoring job. He is 80 years old, he will state that multiple times, but he gets the job done. If you need a more sleek look done on your pants or suit jacket, you will need to state that as he will call you a man and will try to convince it’s OK to wear what he endorses. It was hard to communicate with him but I was able to be precise with the images that I pulled up online.
He did a great job. When I out my suit on I felt it was double the price. Certainly value for money. Knows what he is doing.

Does an incredible job at an affordable price. I’ve brought a couple of suits and sports jerseys for him to tailor and he’s done an absolute amazing job catering to my needs and will seldom offer his professional insight anywhere he does not see fit.
Price includes a 35 minute history lesson during and after your fitting.

I first came to Holie when I purchased a suit set from a department store that was a bit loose fitting all over. On the blazer, the arm length was too long and the waist too loose. In terms of the pants, the waist, crotch, thigh, and knees were too wide in addition to the length being too long. Holie will direct you to the changing room by the corner if you come with such issues and his English is limited to tailor speak but he will reassure you that he has years of experience. After he tells you about his Hong Kong experiences, he’ll get down to business, expertly pointing out and pinning problematic areas. As mentioned in other posts, his views on what is fit may differ from yours, so if you want a slimmer, more contemporary fit (as I did), now is your time to speak up. The job took about three weeks to complete (as he was a bit busy that month and the work a bit complex) but when I put the suit on, it felt like it was custom made for me. It was about $ 85 which is cheaper than the quotes I received from other places which were well over $ 100 and I didn’t mind his price as I got the suit on sale.
I’ve been coming to Holie ever since where recently I brought in two suit pants that needed the entire pants slimmed down and length shortened (cost was about $ 25 each). His work is immaculate given that you won’t find any loose fitting strings or bad thread work that’s common in laundromat tailors. I highly recommend and will be coming here for the foreseeable future.

If you live in the Gravesend/​Bensonhurst area and have been going to a local dry cleaner or an expensive tailor in the city for your alterations, stop and bring your garments here.
Hao Wu is the «best tailor from Hong Kong» who’s been running this little shop for 18 years. And given his expertise, the prices he charges are a steal. I had bought a new pair of wool trousers unhemmed and wanted them hemmed with cuffs while leaving a ½ inch of additional hem. I showed him a picture of how I wanted them to look on me to avoid any ambiguity. For this type of work, he charges $ 12 — 10 for a hem, 2 for cuffs. I also arranged for the trousers to be ready in a day (money talks…). When I picked them up, the cuffs on the trousers were clean and they fit me perfectly. No signs of a sloppy job at all.
In addition to his quality work, if you ever have a few minutes to speak with him, his passion for his craft shines through. One of the biggest steals in the Bensonhurst/​Gravesend area by far.
Note: If you like your clothing to be slim or wear your clothes with a more modern fit (shorter jacket, little to no break in the pants etc), I’d bring a picture so he understands what you mean. He’s 78 and his definition of fit may differ from yours.

There are times when you feel compelled to share an experience, if not to make it more meaningful, but to truly appreciate it. Mr. Wu’s life is one story worth sharing. Mr. Wu is a highly creative, hardworking (he’s in his 80s) craftsman brimming with enthusiasm both for his work and for life in general. He opened his first tailoring shop in Hong Kong when he was 26 and has worked with several dignitaries in Hong Kong politics. He also worked as a freelance photographer for local newspapers and weddings, and still holds a keen interest in photography.
My Banana Republic suit was seemingly irreparable. It’s a 44L, and since when I bought it in 2008, thanks to my running hobby, I am now a 42L. The suit was wearing me. Mr. Wu looked at it and said most places will not take on the difficult task of bringing down a $ 500 suit two sizes, but it was beautifully made and he felt he was up for the challenge. A week later, I returned to his shop in Bensonhurst, and tried on a perfectly tailored suit! The blazer conformed to my chest; the sleeves no longer went past my wrists; and the waistband was the right fit. I was thoroughly impressed.
Mr. Wu is a master at his craft. He has a bright, cheerful attitude, which resonates into his work. Hong Kong is well-​known around the world for its reputation and demand for quality tailored suits. Mr. Wu exemplifies the fine skill and virtuosity that are essential to any master craftsman.

I purchased a pair of Outlier Climbers and they needed to be tailored so I was on a quest to find a good tailor. After paying that much for a pair of pants, I knew I couldn’t trust just any «tailor.» Luckily there was a tailor close to my house but there were no reviews online about this place.
Deciding to bite the bullet I called to get the hours and pricing. I nearly gave up when it was difficult to speak to the man over the phone in English but it turns out he spoke Cantonese like I did which made our conversation easier. I went over to the shop, he took my measurements and while he worked we chatted. It was during this time I realized I stumbled upon a gem.
Mr. Wu is an old time tailor who became proficient at his trade while he was working in Hong Kong over 50 years ago. As we chatted he took a break from working on my pants to show me what good tailoring looked like and what a bad job looked like. He also shared with me his story of being in Bensonhurst in the 90s. After two hours of storytelling he showed me my new pair of Climbers, fitted to my height.
Mr. Wu’s shop schedule is a bit irregular (he takes his grandchildren to school on some days) and his English is a bit basic even though most of his clients are non-​Asian. Overall he’s an awesome guy who takes real pride in his work and that’s what impresses me about him.
Even as I write this now I have a pair of Proof NY Speilman pants in his care.
