Don’t. Just don’t go here. There are many scrap yards in NY who welcome your business. J & V is not one of them.
I visited twice– with my father (a mechanic) first, and my boyfriend second. Both times we experienced absolutely bottom of the barrel service. NYers are notoriously gruff and it’s a scrap yard so I wasn’t expecting white glove treatment. But the two men working behind the desk at J & V are beyond nasty. We asked if they had a part in stock the first day (which they said they had two, not making eye contact and barely acknowledging our presence) and when we went back, they said it actually wasn’t the right part for our car. Cool, somewhere there was a miscommunication and that’s fine (even though we gave the year, make and model both times to be sure). People make mistakes, it’s not a big deal. But the behavior that followed surprised me. Open hostility and snide comments to each other about your customer while your customer is standing right in front of you isn’t just bad service, it’s infantile. (Guy 1: «I don’t know ask him.» Guy 2: «What, you gonna ask me the same question?» Guy 1 to Guy 2: «Why is he still here?») We were there for less than 5 mins! And it was your mistake in the first place! Grown men acting like children is not something I care to witness. Plus the prices aren’t even that good. PLUS we found out what they had actually would’ve worked with our car!
Avoid. Avoid at all cost.
