My son spent a semester there for after-school. Pros: The staff are kind and warm. My son got better at chess and had fun. It’s a small program and they try to accommodate everyone’s needs. A few complaints: 1. It is a very expensive program, if you include transportation($ 20/a day). They screwed up the billing and charged me $ 20/day for days my son did not attend. They do not keep good attendance records so never refunded my money. 2. They do not accommodate a normal public school schedule, ie. pick up early on half days. A huge inconvenience for working parents, especially considering the cost of the program. 3. They feed them junk food every single day. Not like pretzels and chips, like sugar — gummy bears and fruit punch. I was the only parent who ask them to stop giving my child candy, and came off as the bad guy. In the end the compromise was to give my son water and chips. In their defense, it seems like a pretty new program, not all that organized, and they are still figuring things out. Still, I won’t be sending my son back there.

This is a wonderful place for kids to learn chess! The people who run the program are passionate about kids learning the game. They are wonderful role models and are funny, patient, and engaging. This is the fourth year that my kids have been attending their after school and summer camp(since they were ages 4 and 6). This chess program has helped build their social skills, their analytic thinking and their confidence. Plus, the kids love it there; they say, «it’s like going to camp in a toy store!» Also, any day that school is closed, they offer an affordable all-day chess camp from 8 am-6 pm that’s so appreciated by us working parents.
