Klenosky Paint

First go to the city, everything is MUCH cheaper. As a major contractor I assumed I wouldn’t get gouged. Even after the discount the price was insane. At retail I feel bad for the average customer. When I asked the manager technical questions regarding different paints they carried I was given replies that were dogma not fact. I called needing to exchange a one finish type for another. The employee said good luck it depends on how the boss feels. This was a day later a day I had said I have the receipt. Overall really a poorly managed place. Buy your Benjamin somewhere else, you are better off.

I was worried about figuring out all the details for a new project and these guys helped me out detail by detail. Got me all the supplies I needed and wrote out instructions to help me distress a mirror. So happy and will definitely be coming back!

I was so impressed with the service provided by Jeff that I felt compelled to write my first ever Unilocal review! He was patient in helping me pick out the right colors and took great care in getting everything perfectly right for me. He was incredibly quick and efficient too. Everyone at the store offered to help me carry my paints out and even assisted me in calling a cab.

In a city like NY where every household chore, such as painting, seems even more daunting than it is in reality — Klenosky Paint keeps things easy! We’ve been there twice now for our painting needs, and each time we walk away with nothing but a great experience.
Today we were assisted by Albert who was very helpful, and honest (when it came to pricing, and what we thought we needed vs. what we actually needed). Also in the 10 minutes we were in there we overheard them find a customer’s house keys and return them promptly. Last time we were there Jeff helped us, he too went above and beyond what we had anticipated for what is seemingly a mom and pop style paint store.
Stand up gentlemen and a stand up business!

Great place! came there without knowing exactly what to buy and came home with usefull tools paying an affordable price!

I think this place is great for non-​pros. The service is very helpful (happy to explain the difference between finishes, qualities) and take their time about it – you dont’ feel rushed to make a decision. They reassure you that the paint they mixed matches the chip by not only putting it on top of the can but also on the chip, where it proves the match obviously.
While painting my apt, I commuted 4 train stops to here instead of my local place (A G License Locksmith Hardware) which gave such awful service when I was buying my bedroom paint that I didn’t want to give them my money. Klenosky could be a bit more expensive, I wouldn’t know b/​c A G doesn’t price their products until you arrive up front, but the service and the reassurance that you are getting properly mixed paint is worth it if you have a little extra money in the budget.

The guys who mix the paint are awesome. Albert is the best. The ex-​military guy is also awesome and outgoing. It is the upper management that are rude and ill behaved… I will go as far as to call them creeps. I have had at least a dozen instances where the upper management has made me not want to shop there. One of them had to the gall to ring me up and rip off the price tag right in front of me, and up charge me because he said the price was wrong. NEWS FLASH: The price is always wrong there, it is easily 10−20% more than other paint stores. I do a lot of jobs in that neighborhood, but I think I am done with this place.

It’s a paint shop. The people here are reasonably friendly and the paint selection is above average– that is to say they are a Benjamin Moore Dealer and they also stock California Paints. I have no idea why you would buy California Paints though– I’ve never even seen them for sale elsewhere.
Anyway, the prices are a bit high and while they deliver, you must have a credit card on file with them, with ID and an authorization form in order to use this service. Ok, I’ll admit, delivery is a luxury but when you really need it, it’s probably because you don’t have time to come there in person and fill out forms. In an age where you can order Chinese Food online with a credit card, it seems a bit dated to require an in person transaction to process a delivery order. Maybe, it’s just me, you be the judge.
Anyway, for others out there in the professional wood finishing industry (as I am) they are a good back up for spray finish lacquers– they stock M.L. Campbell’s Magnalac and are open on Saturdays which comes in handy if you’re behind on a project. They do not however have any more durable CV’s or post cat lacquer.
For the typical renter who purchases one can of paint every couple years, this place is great, but if you buy a lot of paint as I do it is merely okay.

I guess reviewing this store is only done by those procrastinating painting.
They know their stuff. And are beyond helpful, mixing up tons of little quart cans so I can try out colors, and then taking orders over the phone so the gallons I want will be there when I come by to pick up ten minutes before close. And, as I’m not a professional, they are super helpful explaining the differences between flat and eggshell and the right way to do edges.
Still have three more rooms to go. But working with them makes it feel doable.
