They used to be a good bakery, about 10years ago, an my stupid self kept coming an thinking it would get better but NO not at all, there hot food is decent, coffee is good but Honestly I’m not here for the hot food. I want bakery food some yummy rice pudding cookies flan cake etc, why does everything taste like a fridge?! Like its been in the fridge for weeks. It really sucks bc it’s a old school spot very known an well liked. Just slacking on the love for food the flavor. Ah I’ll walk to the next best. Sorry I really hate to leave negative reviews but hopefully this helps them get back to what they used to be.

The tres leche here is superb! Perhaps a little too sweet, but otherwise, it’s delicious! The cookies were lackluster, but the slices of cakes make up for it.

For the price range this place can’t be beat. If you need a last minute wedding cake, this place is seriously a bargain. 2012 — 14 tiers for my brother = 780 $(white with silver designs — ordered a week before the event) 2015 — 3 tiers for my niece = 250 $(customized, green with gold, chocolate upgrade — ordered the night before the event) 2009 — 18 tiered cake for my event = 1,000(white with red designs) I’ll be back to be more thorough and post pics.

Love, love, love this bakery! Aside of making the best tres leaches cake they also make the best flan pudding ever! I could eat a tray of flan all by myself! And finally, they’re opened 24⁄7.

I’m not sure what a tres leche was supposed to taste like because it was my first time trying it… but damnnnnnn! It was hella good! Almost like a soggy pound cake filled with nothing but deliciousness.

The cuban sandwich was ok. but not the best. Coffee bitter and scalding hot. The service… well the guy there(guessing is the boss) was great, one of the girls was really nice, but the other… well… she shouldn’t be dealing with people. Read… snappy b!@%&

I’ve gotten birthday cake twice from here. One time I customized it with fillings and the other I got one of the pre made tres leches black&white cakes. Both times my coworkers were raving and asking where I got the cakes from. Assortment of other pastries is great too although I haven’t tried many of them.

This was a longtime neighborhood institution that is now a pale shadow of what it used to be. The cakes taste like sawdust is the main ingredient these days and the nice ladies behind the counter have been replaced by surly goons. Nothing lasts forever…

My friend ordered a tres leches cake with fresh strawberries for a baby shower. It looked exactly as she requested and it was beyond delicious… truly! I can’t wait to order a cake of my own.

I went to La gran Via Bakery for my daughters birthday cake and cup cakes this year and it was horrible. I liked the design of the cake but the taste was horrible, the frosting tasted bitter. The cup cakes were not the design I ordered. I was looking for something simple and affordable, that does not mean I wanted something that tasted badly. I was so disappointed and so was my daughter. Never again.

Service is terrible. Staff is talking to non-customers with non-work related tasks. I was not given directions about how to make an order.

I came here to buy a cake for my dad’s bday. I bought the pineapple/vanilla custard cake. The cake here was not bad. I didn’t like their meringue frosting. .it was too sweet for me. Also, I wished the pineapple filing had chunks of pineapples. It was more like a pineapple gel, that comes from a bucket. I think I liked the slice of tres leches cake better. They have different types of tres leches cakes. The girl asked me what type I want and I was like, «err, the regular one???»

The food here won’t be the best you’ve ever had. The coffee is on the good side of mediocre(except the iced coffee, it’s perfect). The pastries are scrumptious but not the best in the area. I can’t speak on the taste of the cakes, but they look made by a skilled cake decorator. I’m sure your wondering why I gave this place such a high rating? LETMETELLYOUWHY: the hometown feel. This place is very impressive. They are open 24 hours a day and it’s been in business for years. The staff treats everyone like a regular. The service is quick and your food will be hot and tasty. The staff believes in the product they are selling and they seem to like working there. Places like this hardly exist anymore. It’s a classic. Do yourself a favor: order up some flan or tees leeches cake and an ice coffee. Perfect representation of what this little place can do. You will leave with a sugar high and a feeling of family.

I’ve only got a birthday cake, service was very friendly and helpful, I was able to pick up on the same say, the designs and colors were just as I requested. I had the tres leche w guava and vanilla flavors, the cake was not overtly sweet or heavy, the kids love it! I will definitely go back for more birthday occasions! They also have an online website you can just reserve it online and pick up after. Very reasonably priced too!

I came back to order my daughter’s first birthday cake. This was a doozy. I wanted an igloo shaped cake to go with our winter wonderland theme. La Gran Via came through in a big way. Check out her amazing cake! A giant igloo plus a dozen pink, purple, and blue penguin cupcakes. It looked amazing and tasted even better.

I’ve eaten from here for 10 years, but out of their cakes I’ve only had the Tres Leches, and it’s been delicious. For my parents anniversary dinner we ordered a dominican pineapple cake. We were very disappointed, it was one of the worst«dominican» Cake we’ve ever had. Specially since my mom was a baker back in DR, we know what to expect. The cake was dry, very dry, not too far from cornbread. It didn’t have pineapple filling, it had pineapple chunks!!! Needless to say no one ate the cake, besides the frosting which was the best thing on the cake! I only recommend the tres leches, stay away from the«dominican» cake.

La Gran Via did my wedding cake. Since I started the wedding planning process, my non-negotiable was a delicious ‘latino” wedding cake like my mum makes. Betsy was great about taking the order and making sure we tried everything. Unfortunately, they completely messed up the colours and style I wanted for my cake and it looked like a gaudy hot mess, not at all like the pictures I’d emailed them. Obviously, I was disappointed when I set eyes on it, given that it would forever be immortalized in my wedding photos. The only reason why I’m not giving them 2 stars is because it was friggin delicious. I had several of my guests come up to me and confess they had more than 2 pieces. There was no cake left when we went to pick up our stuff from our venue the next day– it was a 4 tier cake. Delicious cakes. dubious follow through. Definitely make sure you’ve gone in at least twice before picking up/paying to make sure everything is perfect.

My boyfriend and I met with a former colleague at this bakery that’s situated on 5th Avenue in Sunset Park. The moment I stepped in there was a beautiful array of desserts, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies in the displays. This is a really small bakery with limited seating as well. There’s only a counter and about 5 – 7 stools. We came to La Gran Via Bakery to catch up and grab coffee. Our former colleague treated us to hot beverages and as for me, he treated me to an iced coffee and we bought a coconut cookie and a slice of strawberry cheesecake. Their iced coffee was great! It wasn’t too sweet which is exactly what I wanted and had a little bitterness to it. The strawberry cheesecake was mediocre. It wasn’t the best strawberry cheesecake I had. It didn’t feel soft or smooth like a cheesecake should be. I also bought a pound of butter cookies. Since we went a week or two prior to Valentine’s Day, the bakery already had Valentine’s Day cookies in stock. There were cookies that were red and pink, heart shaped and a cookie that’s shaped like a pair of lips(a little freaky if you ask me). The staff here are very laid-back and friendly. I think I would definitely come back to La Gran Via Bakery if I’m ever in the neighborhood again.
