I feel confident that I receive the best eye care available anywhere from Dr. Douglas Lazzaro and his staff at Lazzaro Eye Center. Truth be told, there is nothing that I dread and fear more than a trip to the ophthalmologist, but Douglas is so kind and so patient, that it actually makes it possible for me to get through it. My eyes have a long history with the Lazzaro family. Douglas’s father, Clifford, was my eye doctor for decades growing up in Brooklyn. Douglas, now a respected and honored physician in his own right, eventually took over the practice his father began years ago. In fact, the Lazzaro family has been taking care of all the eyes in my family, i.e. father, mother, brother, sister, aunts, uncles, etc., for decades. The highest praise that I can give to Douglas is that he saved my eyes and my father’s eyes. In the case of my Dad, he was diagnosed with glaucoma very early, and it was treated such that he never had to lose his sight. In my case, a pre-cancerous mass was spotted in its early stages of growth, and it was removed before it became a more serious problem. In both cases, a less skilled, less thorough ophthalmologist may have missed these issues until they were a bigger problems. So perhaps my fear of the eye doctor is tied to the fact that I had to have eye surgery, but despite my fear, I am so grateful that Douglas, and his father before him, have been my eye care professionals. Even though I live in the Bronx now, I still travel back to Bay Ridge for my appointments because I feel so strongly about the quality of care I receive there. They are excellent physicians, and I cannot recommend Lazzaro Eye Center strenuously enough.
