Well, it is with some level of sadness I must announce that I won’t be back to this restaurant, which was a refuge, albeit rickety and mediocre, in the wasteland that is Mexican cuisine in NYC. I first discovered Los Pollitos I about 10 years ago, and after moving to Fort Greene this spring I was pleased to find tres nearby. Sure, the only thing good there is the guacamole and the drinks are overpriced(and pretty terrible), but it was available. We stopped in for brunch recently and though the place was nearly empty, there were only two people working both the bar and the floor. Service was sweet but slow, and we took our time ordering. I decided on a brunch menu offering, ordered it 4 minutes after **brunch had ended, and was told I couldn’t have it. Now, they offer a brunch special with drinks, I didn’t want the drinks, just the menu item which consists of about five ingredients they had right there in the kitchen. The waitress said it was ridiculous they were saying no, especially as I was going to pay the premium price for a simple dish. She made a special request of the kitchen/manager, and still the answer was no. So we canceled the rest of the food, paid a bill that was way too expensive for a couple of bad cocktails and a pail of chips, and left. And we won’t be back because that’s some horrendous and unwise customer service. Lucky for us, Castro is just down the street.

The place is great! The Mexican Bulldogs are awsome! The best Margaritas in town for sure! The food is excellent! Don’t forget to try the pozole soup and the molcajete norteno.

Service is HORRIBLE. I complained about the red sangria which tasted like it has been stored in the refrigerator next to a steak. When I told the waitress, she was very dismissive and didn’t even acknowledge me or make eye contact, just walked away. Another waiter tried to make excuses for her lack of customer service, which I’m sure he has done numerous times. How do you stay in business??? After that, everything went downhill. Food arrived and OMG, left a whole lot to be desired. NO seasoning, small portions and the presentation was awful. Also, I saw the nasty lady let 2 men off the street into the kitchen chatting with the cooks, it just looked so unsanitary. YUCK. Chat in the front, not in the kitchen without washing your hands. NEVERAGAIN will I eat here.

Do not come here! Food is not even real Mexican food and the service is terrible! We were charged for two complete fajita entrees after we were told it was«no problem» to mix the meats. The server copped a crazy attitude when we questioned the $ 40 fajitas!!! The $ 5 margaritas draw you in, but be strong and keep walking!

I’ve tried this place a couple times and they will always shock me with a bad experience. Really bad service and food! Waiters are extremely disrespectful and will charge you for any little thing they can think of. On top of the bad food and bad service they love to add on a high gratuity to your bill. This place is not worth the money and the long night of stomach pain. Do your self a favor and stay away!

I don’t understand how some of these reviews below can say their food wasn’t amazing. The burrito my roommate ordered was one of the best I’ve had since moving here. I’m from CA so I know my burritos. Their guacamole was pure heaven, which is made fresh at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The décor alone was adorable, quaint, and very cozy. And don’t even get me started on the drinks. 5 dollar margaritas even on weekends?!! And when I say they pour heavy, I mean they pour DUMB heavy. I was hammered after 3, and I drink a lot. Service was so so, but definitely nothing to stop you from going in. Overall spot for good mexican food and drinks.

Although the guacamole is good the customer service is TERRIBLE. The happy hour margarita was pure sour mix and when I asked to substitute it for another drink the waiter immediately told me NO and began to explain the difference between house liquor and top shelf liquor. Instead of being accommodating like MOST restaurants and wait service would be… He refused. Last time I’ll visit this place. Not to mention… The waiter never came back to check on us throughout our entire seating, no water was refilled, etc. TERRIBLE service. Don’t waste your time or money– especially not on the overly juiced or watered down happy hour drinks.

The waiters and waitresses here were sweet and the ambiance was very smooth but the food was not as good. I ordered Salmon which lacked much seasoning, as well as a «Jamaica» juice to wash it down which also didn’t taste good. To be honest, I would not expect a spectacular Jamaican style sorrel from a Mexican joint but it did not hurt to try. It actually tasted like powdered drink. I did enjoy the nachos and guacamole though. I would return but only at last resort.

Went here a while back. The food is average, the drinks specials caught my eye. I found the portions small, and the staff rude.

Worst place ever, food is disgusting nothing is fresh the food taste like they prepare it days ago and store in the fridge. The nachos were super disgusting very dry and no effort on making, it looks like they just threw a bunch of sour cream all over, The staff are rude and nasty, they charged me for a drink that was horrible, 5 $ margarita taste like straight up water then to top it off they fill the cup w ice, this place sucks gets a — star, DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYHERE !!! Worst shiitehole ever, and the cook isn’t even Mexican smh

Just received my order of chicken nachos and guacamole and chips. This is probably the most bland Mexican food I’ve ever tasted… I had to doctor the nachos so much for them to even taste like something. I could have just made my own because I used all of my own ingredients to fix them. And side note if you don’t like sour cream you should say so. I hate sour cream and it was everywhere on these taste less ‘nachos’. The guacamole and chips were not with $ 10 and also needed salt and spice.

The chicken burrito was delicious but I was disappointed, for a $ 9 burrito should come with a side.

Ordered a dish that I saw in a Unilocal pic. It wasn’t on the menu at Los Pollitos III but the chef was kind enough to prepare it for me. God bless him. Large, deep dish of yellow rice topped with jumbo shrimps and sautéed spinach was yummy, saucy with tomatoes, red peppers and onions and very good. Could’ve done without the standard side of black beans. This place looks like an abuela’s kitchen and that’s not a bad thing. The Spanish music in the air here is full of bass and is played loud enough to make you wanna bounce and jiggle at your table. I’ve yet to visit sunny California but Los Pollitos III’s atmosphere makes me wanna go. Full bar and TV’s. Cute date night spot(if you have a cute date which I no longer do.) Sigh…

The drinks are ok but you can’t beat the prices. The food was that great. It’s a good place to have few drinks with friends.

5 $ margarita and sangria. You got me already! Their drinks are really good and strong. I also got fried calamari with the shrimp in garlic sauce. It was delightful. Cool place with good food and drinks knowing they have competition like wrays, soco, and sapolos. I’d come again. Just wish they didn’t close so early.

Be careful with your credit cards and being randomly overcharged. Never thought I’d have money blatantly stolen from me. I guess they knew they had terrible service and had to steal a tip from us. Food was decent. Had to to go ask for our chips and salsa we ordered after 15 mins of waiting. the bread on my friends sandwich came stale– so it wasn’t exactly a sandwich that he ended up eating. But despite that we were okay. When it came time for the bill we decided to split it three ways, with cash and two cards. and then add on tip at the end. First they added on an extra drink no had gotten. The second time around — For some reason both cards got charged $ 3 extra. And they felt it wasn’t a big deal if they had added it on randomly. which they– not us– decided would be our tip. More than 20% tip. Ridiculous. Bad service, okay food and then charging us extra and making it look like it was no big deal. If you can’t calculate math then don’t work a register. and def don’t make it look like it’s no big deal. A few dollars here or there makes no difference to me. But come on.
