Since my first review 2 years ago, MakerBot has changed a lot. They used to maintain their relationships with knowledgeable customers in an open-source market. Now they alienate old customers with Apple-style closed-source products marketed aggressively to people who are new to 3D printing. To do that successfully, MakerBots would have to work 100% of the time right out of the box, but they don’t. They need tinkering. And there’s competition, such as the 3D Systems’ Cube printer that’s available to the average consumer now on the Staples website. Wonder why Staples didn’t pick MakerBot?
