The food was cool… I don’t know it felt like the cashier catered more to those of the caucasian race. Customer before me she was so nice but when it came up to me, the attitude was RIDICULOUS.

What can I say — I am a stickler when coming to customer service. I would pop in from time to time to grab breakfast and haven’t had the best experiences here. One visit in particular turned me off entirely from coming back. Several weeks ago I stopped in and one of the girls in the front didn’t bother to greet or acknowledge me. When I gave her my order, she passed me off to one of the guys from the back. Like, are you working today?! Extremely rude! The first thing I thought of was, how can my neighborhood bagel shop that’s been voted Best Bagel, be severely lacking when coming to customer service? And please be clear this isn’t the first time the girls in front have been unpleasant. They always seem to be completely unbothered, and on an occasion one was openly on her personal phone with customers present. There is a time and place for everything, and work should be just for that. Even if you are not always working while on the clock, save the play time and bad attitudes for when the store is vacant of customers. To each his own but for me, I’d much rather have mediocre food and exceptional service than great food and poor service. It’s never just about having an excellent product — which they do(the bagels are wonderful). It’s also about making sure the customer wants to return. Something that a lot of businesses don’t realize is that consumers have choices and when they choose you, you want to make sure they are satisfied. It’s a shame when I actually feel like my business is not welcome whenever I step into that place. Oh well, guess I’ll patronize Dunkin’ Donuts where I would at least get a smile and some appreciation for my business.

So I am big on checking reviews. There are a lot of bagel experts that have this place 3 stars. This place is title and when I was there I counted a staff of 7 people working on a weekday. If this place was only 3 stars they would not be employing that many people. My bagel was a good NY bagel. And I bought a chocolate with cheese muffin I will eat later. And I love that the owner walked by and said hello. That is class.

An okay bagel shop. I found the bagels to be small and too crispy for my liking. I did like the baked salmon salad. My girlfriend’s bagel with lox, scallion cream cheese, lettuce, and tomato was good, but the bagel was just too tough. They carry a decent selection of drinks and pastries. The shop has a big staff behind the counter, so the line may seem long yet moves fast.

Ordered: Poppyseed bagel with lox, scallion cream cheese, lettuce and tomato Cons– The bagel’s outside was hard and the bagel itself was pretty small. The other ingredients were mediocre in regards to freshness.

I usually go here once a week for a long time. The bagels especially pumpernickel rye swirls were my favorite. The past 4 or 5 times I’ve come in they have gotten my order wrong or I get a rock hard bagel. Every time I mention to them they just give a blank look. I would not recomended them I would not go back anymore. This is very disappointing. This was once such a great place food wise and customer service wise.

The food is actually enjoyable, but the service is horrendous – lazy staff who consistently serve up attitude and wrong orders. They are not even remotely polite, which turns(what should be), the easy task of grabbing a quick coffee and bite, into a regrettable pitstop.

The bagels are okay. The prices are higher than average and the folks there are not pleasant. From folks at the registers to folks preparing the order, they make you feel like they are doing you a favor.

Literally the best bagels ever. Their lox and cream cheese bagels are the best, as well as the whole wheat everything flagel with butter. Always fresh!

All I can say is thank God for Unilocal!I’ve been going to this place for years and the service has been consistently horrible. The ladies behind the counter cater to their favorites and when I say favorites I mean white people. No offense to anyone but this place always gives me a feeling of unwelcomeness(not a word) when I walk through the door. The sandwiches are not great and they don’t even have turkey bacon in 2015.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. After giving this place one star the last time I reviewed it, I went back again. I figured I’d give it another try. I went back today and ordered a dozen bagels, even though I already knew they were too dense and not your REALNYC Bagel.(I’ve lived here all my life and I know a good bagel). OK so I already knew that and also knew that the females behind the counter have a shite eating attitude. I ordered a few different cold cuts and a pound of cole slaw, a pound of potato salad and a pound of macaroni salad. ALL of them tasted FISHY. They obviously used the SAME spoon to scoop my three salads that they used to scoop some kind of FISH salad. HOWSTUPIDCANTHEYBE? or, how LAZY can they be? So ALL of those salads went into the garbage. I can’t believe that the salads ALL tasted like FISH! THIS is what happens when the owner is NOT on the premises. More and more of these types of businesses are opening in Brooklyn. Businesses where a couple of venture capitalists put up some money, hire a start-up manager to open and run the business and are off somewhere in Florida leaving everything up to the manager as long as the money is coming in. I do NOT trust what goes on BEHIND the counter in this place if I can’t trust them to use a different scoop for each type of salad. I STILL can’t believe that I had to throw out cole slaw, potato salad and macaroni salad because all three tasted like FISH!

What can I say? Delicious, thick, chewy, slightly sweet bagels a few minutes from home. Don’t buy too many if you aren’t going to eat them right away because they will dry out after a day or two(better just go buy fresh).

When it’s good it’s good, but when it’s bad… It’s BAD! Let’s be honest there are only two bagel stores worth mentioning in the neighborhood and mill basin bagel café has the edge. The bagels are good when they don’t serve you a burnt one, and the spreads are always fresh. Overall this should be at least a 4 star bagel store. What’s the down side? The staff. This bagel store has the worst staff for any establishment. Orders are constantly wrong and incorrect. Ask for a soft bagel? Scooped out bagel? No you’ll get what they give you because they clearly are not listening. Further, the staff has no sense of urgency. It’s a bagel store most people are coming before work or trying to get in and out. The guys have no care in the world and are always having inappropriate conversations. The girls behind the counter are lazy and have an attitude. There is simply no sense of care for their jobs. The staff made my review go from 4 stars to 2 stars. I don’t mind paying a little extra for fresh ingredients and good quality food, however the actions of the staff just ruin whatever atmosphere they are trying to create. Also, what is the point of having great selection if your staff is constantly getting my order wrong. I gave this place enough attempts, I’m done!

Great bagels. Great spreads. Service is the only thing holding me back from giving them a 5.

I went in here on Saturday at 3PM to order a bagel wheel for NYE. There were no managers in at the time so I left the girl my name and number and she said she’d have someone call me on Sunday. Robert, the assumed manager called me. He received another call and put me on hold, then told me he’d call me back the next day(Monday) at 11am. He never did. I finally called back there at 2:30PM on Monday and tried to place my order when they told me it was too late to fulfill because NYE is tomorrow. Terrible service. I was there 72hrs in advance, but because of their lack of follow through, my order couldn’t be fulfilled. I ended up calling Gourmet Bagel Shoppe(formerly Bagel Supreme) on Avenue U near Meat Supreme and Luis gladly filled my order, no hassle. Will never go to Mill Basin Bagel Café for catering again.

This place has great bagels and quality service. It has a nice family feel and the food is made fresh on the premises. The chicken salad is excellent!

Let me start by prefacing that these bagels are pretty darn good. Whenever I’m in the area, this is a place I want to stop at. …However that being said, no matter how good the bagels are, I cannot overlook the horrible customer service of this place. The cashiers are seriously the worst people on earth. I think they forget they are in the customer service industry because you’ll sooner get a scowl than a hello. I’ve had to make sure I wasn’t wearing Harry Potters cloak of invisibility half a dozen times I’ve entered bc a «hello» and/or «welcome» isn’t in their vocabulary(if it was, I’m sure this bagel store wouldn’t have ended up as their career…). Bottom line is that carbs and a bagel just isn’t worth having if it means having to deal with these soulless, horrible, nasty, rude people. If this is how they are like in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, a suburb with foot traffic of about 20 people, I couldn’t imagine them in the city.

This business transcends the normal experience, whilst keeping it at right at the boundary level. Walking in, it appears youve walked into a lower class persons kitchen. The hum of employess making small talk greets youa s you walk through the creaky yet still very serviceable door. Depending on the time there might be people already awaiting theyre bagels or could be empty. Typically there is a middle aged Latino man with an outdated blue tooth that hasnt been used on an important call in 2 years. Being a bagel store it opens early, so the cash register ladies are able to create a permanent scowl by 8 am. The food is good though.

When you want a real Brooklyn bagel, you should come here. They are the best! The bagel and«flagels» are fantastic. The salads, cream cheese, and sandwiches are pretty good too. The bagels are crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Consider yourself lucky when you get one that is still warm! This place is a bit pricey, but I think its worth it. I hesitate to give them the full five stars because the staff’s attitude STINKS! They are pretty rude at times, but I guess you have to endure the«Brooklyn hospitality» in order to get a quality bagel.

I’d like to say this place made me a bagel snob! I’ve refused bagels from other places knowing they wouldn’t come close to these heavenly carby creatures. I’ve been going here since they were a hole in the wall shop a couple stores over, after the renovation and move they still know how to make em. Ill admit it can be a bit over whelming when you walk in there, you go up to the cash register and the guys in the back are asking you what you want. Its kind of annoying because most of the time the place is packed and you have to yell over ppl. The Bagels/Coffee Holy huge coffee, these guys make a jumbo iced coffee that’ll take you three days to finish. I love the Styrofoam cups I always carve my name in with a pen(the hazelnut iced coffee is off the charts delicious) I like to keep it simple when it comes to my bagel(everything toasted with cream cheese) but Mill Basin Bagel or as i call it Ave N bagel store has an array of bagel, flagels, bialeys, spreads, salads, muffins, you name it they got it. Just a tip– If you can wake up early and get their for opening DOIT, those bagels are still hot from the oven! Also they aren’t a cheap bagel store, but you pay for good quality.
