Here’s the thing, this is a place that can easily be awarded a 5-star review. In this neighborhood, it’s difficult to come by a traditional chinese food place that delivers. Most of the Avenue U spots that don’t mimic the new-age pseudo-chinese food establishments usually suffer from the three factors: no delivery, no credit card, B or C health rating. Ming’s Place’s biggest fault is their inconsistency. The online ordering is simple. The delivery is relatively fast(or normal). But the food can range from excellent to decent. I usually order the same dishes every time. And without fail, they differ dramatically with each order. For instance, the BBQ Spare Ribs. Last night, the ribs were massive, the sauce was thick and and the meat was tender. However, two weeks ago, the ribs were essentially dry, thin red bones. The meat was non-existent, as was the sauce. The hot dumplings can range from a dish of hot, peanut-buttery heaven to a pool of spicy brown water. The mongolian beef(when done right is one of their best dishes) is never consistent. I suggest asking for extra ginger, because that’s what really puts the crown on the meat and veggies. However, every other order is semi-flavorful and in desperate need of meat. The seafood soup can either be destined for chunks of fish or just peas and a few shrimp with one or two pinky nail-sized shreds of imitation crab. Btw — here’s their best non-menu secret: ice cream. Although they started decreasing the size of their containers, Ming’s Place offers(what seems like home-made) ice cream in Strawberry, Chocolate and Pistachio flavors. There might be more, but that’s all I’ve ordered. And trust me, they are nothing short of delicious.

Hands down, the best Chinese food in Brooklyn. I’ve been eating here for over 20 years now and I have never had anything bad from them. From their steamed dumplings, to cold noodles with sesame sauce, to chicken with cashews, to boneless spare ribs, to vegetable lo mein– everything here is consistently good. Yes the interior is dated, but it’s clean and the service is good, so who cares? The delivery is also super fast. If they ever close, I really don’t think I will ever eat Chinese food again.

Great general tso’s. Skip their competition ie cheap takeout places or chopstix. There is a reason this place has been here for a long time. Namely, good food at a reasonable price. Don’t let the décor put you off. It’s the content not the wrapping that counts.

Great old fashioned American Chinese food has become nearly extinct(those cheap takeout places don’t count), luckily Ming’s Place remains opened serving high quality classic dishes at a very reasonable price. Complete dinners are about $ 11 and they even have a large vegetarian menu. When you sit at the table note you are served great crispy noodles and duck sauce that isn’t the prepackaged garbage nearly every other Chinese restaurant has. The restaurant itself is past due for remodeling but I think that just adds to the charm; wait staff warm and attentive. Highly recommend eating the food there because once it’s put in a container and brought home it doesn’t taste nearly as good. Unfortunately they are practically never past capacity and a table is always available.

This joint used to be pretty good years ago, but now I order from there every other week because my wife wants Chinese food? I stopped eating that garbage. I still spend $ 50 bucks on it for my wife though. Tues night new chief cooks garbage for $ 50. After that I haven’t ordered for a year. I miss the MSG rush of high blood pressure. Try the fly rice, ha ha s. Fontana

This is a review of their vegetarian food. My wife and I ordered take out because we were shocked to find such a accommodating restaurant for us vegetarians. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. The«meat» was a bit chewy and other than the sauce on it it was pretty flavorless. The sauce was great. Overall I found the food to not be worth the price I paid. 23 dollars for two dinners and four egg rolls isn’t unreasonable but for this part of Brooklyn there is better food for a cheaper price.

im really sad that this place is always empty, the food is genuinely good even though they take a little long for delivery and the restaurant needs a renovation asap,[looks like an old retirement home to me], the quality is excellent where its not fast food, its restaurant style food that’s why its a bit pricier then any regular takeout. I also see they are making thai dishes too so I look forward to trying that from their place soon to see how it is, at least this place is quiet and never a long wait for a table.

Its not always the same cook, so the food is kind of inconsistent. Sometimes the food is great, sometimes its just ok. We like the sizzling rice soup, general tsos chicken, dragon vs phoenix and the chicken wings. The restaurant could surely use an update as its old and drab. We usually do takeout, so the décor is not an issue. Prices are cheap and food is overall good, but inconsitent.

Great value awesome shrimp dishes, friendly atmosphere and just great Chinese food. They have been around for at least 30 years. Great for lunch or dinner. There are not too many places that you can sit down and have a great Chinese dinner

Had a tasty lunch here. General Tso chicken, egg rolls, hot and sour soup and fried rice. The lunch special was only $ 5.50 and the egg rolls were extra. This restaurant is your basic neighborhood Chinese place. They make good food and charge a good price. They are also friendly.

I had fond memories of this place from many years ago, as a decent neighborhood eat in alternative to take out. Things have changed, and not for the better. There may be new owners, because the baby photos that used to adorn the walls are gone. Also gone is the complimentary glass of wine they used to offer. The food was off putting, to be polite. Chicken broth that tasted sweet. I mean sweet as if there was a tablespoon of sugar added to the small bowl of it. After that, everything that came to the table also had a too sweet taste that was just wrong(we didn’t order anything that was supposed to be sweet). Plain white rice wasn’t even cooked properly and tasted stale. Unbelievable. The main dish portions were large, but so was the bill, compared to most neighborhood Chinese restaurants. And to add insult to injury we had to get something else to eat later on, because we could only stand to eat so much of this food. Maybe the oil was too old, maybe the ingredients weren’t that fresh, but it was in that gray area between mediocre and bad. As I said: Off putting. Really sad, but I had to write this to save someone else from disappointment. I saw the previous less than stellar review, and decided to give the place a chance anyway, based on past experience. But what’s past is gone. Maybe the few locals who still come here have a taste for mediocre-bad food with sugar added to it, or maybe they are so old they have no taste buds left at all, but anyone else should be forewarned.

This is the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The hot and sour soup tastes like cigarettes. My egg foo young had eggshells in it. The vegetable fried rice was bland and oddly bright yellow. I hate writing these kind of reviews, but come on. It makes sense that we were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday evening.

If you are looking for peking duck in Brooklyn, it’s place to go! Compared to several Manhattan places where they don’t even bring you out the real duck, here they follow traditional procedure 100%. Very nice. Service, cleanness are great too. Prices are rational.

Okay– Mings may not be the best looking chinese restaurant, but the food is legit. Old school chinese food, NOT a greasy spoon joint. The young chow fried rice is on par with china town restaurants. Good food at fair prices. And they deliver rain or shine

My husband noticed this place on one of our walks and we decided to try it. The staff was friendly and attentive and the service was fabulous. Upon being seating, we were served hot tea, water, and crispy fried noodles with hot mustard and duck sauce. Our orders were taken quickly. We started with the wonton soup which was yummy and then went on to egg rolls and fried dumplings. The egg rolls were perfectly fried and the dumplings were so good! The filling was tasty. We got the lunch specials. He got the general tso’s chicken which was very good and I got the tofu with mixed vegetables which I loved. The portions were ample for lunch specials. The bill was around $ 24 which was great. The food wasn’t the least bit greasy. I can’t wait to go back. No frills atmosphere but really yummy, affordable food.

Really good wonton soup. I usually get the combination plate with boneless ribs and white rice(their fried rice kinda sucks. Just saying.) The combo comes with soup, egg roll, entrée, and desert for around 10 – 12 dollars. Not bad. There’s always old people in here though. I just find that kinda funny. =]

Good, but standard chinese take out options. There’s no surprises in here from the décor, to the fried wonton chips, to the lunch specials and combination platters. But, they do it right, They have a really good, if perhaps slightly too much ginger, Hunan chicken. Their general tso’s is also quite good. If you sit down inside, the above mentioned won-ton chips and hot tea keep flowing as long as you’re eating/drinking them. Service was good, though the waitress who took our order, each time, she would open the kitchen door and begin shouting her orders to the cooks, Again, a surprise free, cliché filled visit. Overall, the price was fair, and the food was good. the restaurant was clean and the service friendly. You won’t find any complaints here. I would go back if I was in the mood for some take out chinese, for sure.

We used to come here all the time as kids because of their great lunch specials. Their chinese noodles are are the big, wide fatty ones. We went back recently and the quality has gone downhill — greasier than what it should be and overall not as good. One thing hasn’t changed though — you may still bring the average age down to 75.

This place is great for both sit down or take out. When eating in, the service has always been great. For take out, they are always very fast. The food is delicious. They have great choices for a vegetarian, like myself. The Vegetarian General Tso’s «Chicken» is tasty and really spicy!
